ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BACK OVER PREVENTION
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Insight. The contact stated that the after starting the vehicle and shifting to reverse(R), the backup camera failed to display an image, creating a visibility hazard for the driver. Additionally, while the vehicle was parked several electrical features could not be accessed, with a message stating that the features could not be accessed because the vehicle was in motion. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contacted and a service appointment was schedule. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 27,000.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Rear view camera Camera suddenly changed colors and is blurry. Cleaned multiple times and it is still always like this now. Shows neon bright colors instead of reality. Needs software update possibly?? There was a recall for this before and it was fixed by previous owner. But there may need to be a new update drivers are not aware about?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE
2013 Honda Insight Hybrid LX (4 cylinder) vehicle purchased on 8/19/14. thanks This complaint is was filed to due engine oil consumption on my Honda-hybrid. In 2020 my car began losing oil quite frequently as I was having to add or change the oil often. On 8/27/21 I took the vehicle to Honda of Downtown Los Angeles, Kesean Zachary informed me they would need to perform an engine oil consumption test and change the oil. Soon after that the car was again losing oil so I returned it to Honda of Downtown on 11/18/21, where Kesean checked the oil with the dipstick and informed that there was no oil consumption. A month later, the car was still losing oil.. this is my work car and I needed to get this problem resolved.. so I decided to take it back to where I purchased the car, Honda of Hollywood on 3/23/22. I spoke with Willie PIttman who informed me they would need to perform another engine oil consumption test and change the oil. He said to me, drive the vehicle for 1,000 miles and bring the car back - this was on a Wednesday, and on Saturday 3/26/22 I told my wife we were going for a drive to see how the car runs. We drove a 52 miles when we decided to head back home, we drove another 11 miles when the vehicle stalled on the 101-fwy in the City of Camarillo, the car just died while driving in the 2nd lane I veered to the right to try to make it to the shoulder but the car only idled over two more lanes to the right and died in the 4th lane, that's when my wife really panic. I had to replace the engine because the piston rings were all black carbon burnt which were burning the oil. Replaced the Electrical and the regular batteries . Replaced two emission exhausted sensors and also the computer.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Driving the vehicle between 60 and 65 MPH on a straight 4 lane divided highway with no oncoming traffic and no obstacles in the road, the emergency braking system triggered the audible and visual warnings and engaged emergency braking in the middle of the highway. There were no vehicles in front of the vehicle, there were no road hazards and the roadway was straight. Other vehicles needed to take evasive action to avoid a collision during the unnecessary braking and while regaining speed after the system deactivated. The vehicle has been inspected and no fault codes were found. This is the second occurrence of the issue. The manufacturer was notified after the first instance and was inspected at a Honda dealer. No action to repair or troubleshoot the issue has been taken by Honda following the first reported issue.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was driving 45 mph on a straight 4 lane undivided road with no cars in front of me or in the oncoming lanes. I was maintaining speed and the vehicle engaged the emergency braking system. The visual and audible alerts went off and with extreme braking force slowed the vehicle down to 10 mph with no obsticles in the roadway. There were no road hazards that would necessitate the system to engage. The trailing vehicles, at highway speed, had to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid rear ending me and I was unable to override the system to maintain speed. I've taken the vehicle to a Honda dealer and they were unable to find any fault codes in the system.

I WAS DRIVING AT 65-70 MPH ON A FREEWAY, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SPEED DROPPED EVEN MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR SLOW DOWN TO 40MPH WHEN DECIDED TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, BARELY ENOUGH TIME TO GET OUT OF DANGER. THE CAR ENGINE SHOT DOWN BY ITS SELF, I COULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE TO THE FAR RIGHT ASS I WANTED TOO. THE WARNING LIGHT ON DASH BOARD INDICATED IN RED " POWER SYSTEM " BOTTOM OF IT IN WHITE LIGHT " POWER SYSTEM PROBLEM DO NOT DRIVE" THEN A MINUTE LATER, THE WARNING LIGHT CHANGED TO A RED LOGO OF A BATTERY 12 VOLT BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM PROBLEM DO NOT DRIVE.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
On July 22, 2022 I was driving my Honda Insight 2020. I was on the highway, current mileage on vehicle 50,796 miles, my speed was normal at 65 MPH when the car lost the ability to accelerate and it stalled. I was forced to make an emergency stop on the side of the interstate. Vehicle displayed on the dashboard "Critical Failure Detected. Stop Driving When Safe" The acceleration on the car kept decreasing and when stop it displayed "Power System Problem. Do Not Drive." Pulling to the side of the interstate was very scary because trucks were flying at about 80mph. I requested for tow company to pick me up but after hour wait, I gave up waiting on the tow truck. I restarted the vehicle and I was able to take off again. The fuel gas showed half of tank so I continue to drive. Forty miles later down the road, the same issue occurred again. I waited 30 minutes and since I was near a gas station I filled up the gas tank to full capacity. I drove another 100 miles (very skeptical) until I reached my final destination. During my drive I felt like the car had difficulties going into gear above 65MPH. The following day I took the vehicle to the Honda dealer, they said they couldn't pin point exactly what it is. Test show no issues on their diagnostic computer. However, the computer show a record of time and issue happening. They believe it is a fuel pump sensor relay. The vehicle senses I am out of fuel, which is not the case. Honda dealer will replace the sensor/relay and I will pay for it. The dealer states this vehicle is not part of a fuel pump recall. This issue needs to be addressed before it creates a scenario with fatalities, which can easily occur.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I was driving down the freeway, around 4pm there wasn't much traffic and the nearest vehicle in front of me was abour 100 meters ahead of me when my 2022 Honda Insight activated the automatic emergency brakes and slowed down for about a second before dis-activating them. Since the vehicle ahead of me was not close at all, there should have been no reason for the automatic brakes to activate. I was lucky there was little traffic at the time and no car was immediately behind me as that could have caused a great accident.

The recent NHTSA disclosure of issues with Honda's driver-assistance technologies causes me to write about the troubling performance of adaptive cruise control on my 2021 Insight. When following another vehicle on controlled access highways, the system works fine. However if the vehicle in front enters an exit lane and slows, my car is slowed to the point that the brakes are fully applied, causing vehicles behind me slam on their brakes or swerve to avoid rear-ending me. The ACC does not "let go" of the car in front of me.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I was driving down the street and a car slowed down way in front of me. While I was braking my automatic braking system turned on and brought me to a complete stop. This caused my car to get hit from the back. The automatic braking does not slow down the car, it brings the car to a complete stop. Another incident, I was driving on the highway with nothing was in front of me and the brake signal started flashing and slowing the car down.

When you turn on the right indicator the camera which shows the right right side of the vehicle it either does not turn on or when it turns on it turns off within a second there is no recall I just wanted to make sure that it's reported and fixed by Honda as a safety issue.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I have had 6 times where the collision warning has slammed on the brakes when there is no vehicles on the road in front of me. This is very dangerous when vehicles are behind you. I'm afraid that this car is going to cause a reck and get me and my wife hurt. A device that is supposed to help you has the ability to get you hurt. The dealer said that they were unable to get it to do it, and that if I was afraid of it that I could turn it off. Dosen't that defeat the purpose of getting it in the first place. I think Honda is just trying to sweep it under the table. Who knows how many other vehicles they have out there with this problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Insight. The contact stated while driving approximately 60-75 MPH, the front end of the hood raised up. The contact continued to drive at a slower speed. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving at high speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that there was no service bulletin associated with the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
It had problems with this car in the first 500 miles on Oct 31st 2021 while driving on Long Island Expressway in Nassau County, NY. I have proof. I took pictures of the dashboard while getting lots of error codes while driving and only had 500 miles on the car. I experience loss of power, loss of steering and brake failure while driving on the Long Island Expressway. I was lucky to be near an exit and I let the car roll away through the exit and I was able to pull over to the side of the service road of LIE. After an hour the car started. I didn't know then, but this car has had chewed up wires ever since I picked it up from the dealership in Pennsylvania( Honda Vinart of Emmaus, PA ). I observed exposed wires when I changed oil for the first time in December 2021. At that time, I thought it is a hybrid thing and didn't think much about it. I was driving with exposed wires this entire time! I could had had the brakes lock up or lose complete power while driving on the highway and cause a major accident. You can try to deflect he blame away from Honda manufacturer, but we all know it is your fault. On March 4th 2022, the Honda Insight barely started , engine knocking and sputtering. I towed it to the Staten Island Honda service (which estimated the damage at $7000 , but the warranty doesn't cover ) and they told me that a rodent finished the job Sunday night. The soy based harness on my 2022 Honda Insight attracts rodents. Why didn't the rodents attack my wife car that is parked right next to mine in the same driveway? I never had this type of problem with the other cars I owned in the past. I had owned dozens of cars and left them months parked in my driveway and they never attracted any rodents. This is a warranty issue and a safety issue . I could have been killed while driving with exposed wires. How do I even know, that other wires are also chewed? Can I trust this car to be reliable anymore? A $30,000 car that can be my death trap.

Lane keep assist doesn't response on a clean white dotted lane. In most occasions. I have seen several forums discussing the same issue. Plus the information system crashes mid way driving in ex trim. Which causes buzzing sharp noise and distraction while driving.

I have had 2 occasions when I experienced inadvertent spontaneous braking. Both times there was no vehicle in front of me. Both times the car stopped completely while driving in the city between 25 to 35mph. Fortunately there was no vehicle behind me either time and I did not sustain any injuries.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact stated that he has not contacted the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 33,000.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Driving on the highway in the evening with no obstruction ahead of the vehicle, the "Automatic Emergency Braking" system engaged, giving an audible alert, visual alert, and applied braking enough to accelerate the car from 65 mph to 40 mph. No one was behind us luckily so there was no crash or injury but there easily found have been. I took the car in for repair and the service techs found no issue with the car or the system. I have now seen this reported in Accords which share much of the same design and technology as the Insight. Please add this to the the complaint list for the outstanding issue so Honda will include the Insight into their analysis.

In 3 instances the emergency braking system has activated when the car was being driven on the freeway and the lane was curving with no obstacles in front of the car in the lane but a semi truck in the next lane over in one instance and cars in the next lane over in the other instances.

the automatic breaking system seems to be malfunctioning and is available for inspection upon request. safety of occupants at risk due to possible accident caused by unwarranted breaking. the problem cannot be consistently reproduced and was not confirmed by dealer or independent service center the vehicle has not been inspected by manufactuer, police or insurance reps the system would inadvertently be activated on previous occasions. but on this last instance, the breaking was harder and more sudden and was activated when there was no danger of frontal collision.
