2017 Jeep Compass has been having an issue with either the start-stop mechanism or the brakes. I was at a single lane red light. The engine went through the start-stop sequence, but when the light turned green and I released the brake, the car struggled to come to life at all and began to stall out. I had to wiggle the steering wheel and shift the gears to multiple places before returning it to drive and thankfully being able to keep moving. I turned the feature off in my car to prevent it from having any further issues while I just made it to work and back home. When I got to the next light and stepped on the brake, I heard a sound and when I looked down and noticed that the parking brake had engaged on its own. Fortunately I was near the dealership, but I was terrified that I was not going to make it there even. After keeping it over night and test driving it, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle at all. This is not the first time this has happened and we took the Jeep to the dealership only to be told that there was nothing they could find wrong with it. I have found several other complaints by other people saying the same exact thing. They are having this issue and when they take it to their service center, they are being told it is fine. This is not fine, and the fact that there has been absolutely nothing done about this simply because there hasn't been any evidence is ridiculous. This is truly unacceptable and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. Period. There is something seriously wrong with it that no mechanics seem to be able to pinpoint whatever the issue is.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
2018 Jeep Compass Limited has the OEM Bi-Xenon option equipped. The issue is with both headlights operating intermittently. It does not matter what position the headlight switch is in (Auto, On) they continue to alternate turning on and off. Sometimes one will come on and the other will be extremely delayed (15-20 minutes), sometimes both are delayed, and sometimes they do not come on at all. Shutting off and restarting the engine power does not help. The issue seems sometimes is worse if stopping for, at night, errands where the headlights then will not turn on at all. Later, next day, the whole issue starts again. This is a very serious issue.

The past month or 2, I started having issues with my car where it would stop while driving. The engine is running, but my car would slow down, brakes and wheel would stop and I’m not able to move after that. Luckily none of this has happened on the expressway, but I am always concern if it were to happen at a high speed that an accident could happen, plus I’m a mother of 2 so I’m even more cautious when driving it. My father checked it and got a code of P0007 “Fuel Shutoff Valve Control Circuit High” I had 2 different mechanics look into it and both stated fuse box (while the last mechanic said he got the same code my dad did as well) I took it to the dealer recently and was told ABS module but currently on backorder.

Intermittent issue occurs where my radio screen looses power or displays code error please restart system, blinkers stop working, thermometer on display shows 2 dashes, climate controls stop working, hazards won’t work, directional buttons on steering wheel and ok button do not work to change display on dash. all of these happen at same time intermittently

The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the instrument panel and the screen flashed bright and then went dim on and off constantly at dusk causing a visibility hazard for the contact. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the auto-dim sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. I have my car for 2 years and the engine has stalled on me 4-5 times at lights trying to come out of the start stop mode. I’ve almost been rear ended multiple times. When these random incidents occur cars behind me do not know what is going on. I took my car to the dealer on 10/3/2023 and they were able to duplicate the problem as I’ve stated it does it at random the code service shifter also flashes on the dash as well as auto start stop not available. But the dealer says the codes are not stored and can’t find them.

Additionally, while coming to a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate immediately. The vehicle was taken to the auto zone, where codes P0420 and P0430 (Catalytic Converter) were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for recall repair: 15V878000 (steering); however, the dealer informed the contact they were unable to perform the recall repair due to a restriction on the vehicle for a rebuilt title. Multimedia screen began delaminating and causing SEVERAL issues, including attempting to call Emergency Services through the app while I was driving. This is an extremely common issues throughout the Jeep community with 2018 vehicles across many models. I drive a Compass but there have been Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, etc. with this same exact issue.

Engine consumes oil rapidly. The touchscreen does not work and shuts off after start-up. Without the touchscreen, the rearview camera does not work, making this problem one of safety. Also, you can not turn on or off safety features in the settings mode, since the screen is blank.

Car went in for recall on start/stop issue a few months ago. Recently wife parked the car and turned it off. Several minutes later went to turn it on again and it was dead. Engine would not start and electronics did not work. Could not even put car in neutral to have towed. Had to get new aux. battery and unhook neutral on main battery just to get into neutral to be able to tow. Dealership in Mt. Airy, NC is now trying to say we caused issues by hooking up battery incorrectly which is untrue since the issue happened before anyone messed with the battery.
