When trying to start the jeep it says the hood is open and continues to act like the jeep is going to start over and over again! When it does start it runs rough! It’s is stating it needs coil 1 replaced which has been replaced and didn’t fix a thing it can’t be driven appears to be junk. Also the start stop has not been working at all

Jeep compass is notorious for electrical issues. Randomly jolts because of the turbo. Randomly pops up electrical issues when there are no electrical issues. On the date of October 26 the car was flashing signals and lights that correlated to nothing going on with the car and locked both its brakes and gas. Thankfully, I was not on the road yet because the car would not start. The car control system aswell jolts the car during unnecessary times.

I am reporting ongoing safety concerns involving my 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk, including unexpected engine shutdowns, repeated battery failures, electrical malfunctions, and recurring check engine warnings despite regular maintenance and multiple repairs. In 2023, the vehicle’s automatic start-stop system malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to shut down completely while I was traveling on the expressway. This created an extremely dangerous situation. The vehicle was towed for inspection, but no problem was identified. After being jump-started, the vehicle operated normally. In September 2024, both the main battery and auxiliary battery were replaced. However, the vehicle continued shutting down and requiring jump-starts. I subsequently took it to the dealership, where wiring connected to the battery system was replaced. The vehicle operated normally for several months following this repair. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have also experienced intermittent electrical malfunctions involving the radio and infotainment system. The radio unexpectedly shorts out, and the display screen goes completely black before eventually restoring itself. Additionally, during each of my last four routine oil changes, the vehicle has died or failed to restart, requiring a jump-start. Approximately one to two weeks after these maintenance visits, the check engine light illuminates. The vehicle has consistently received regular maintenance, yet these problems continue despite battery replacements and dealership repairs. My greatest concern is the possibility of another unexpected engine shutdown while driving, particularly at highway speeds. The 2023 expressway incident placed my safety and the safety of other motorists at risk. I am requesting an investigation into potential defects involving the automatic start-stop system, electrical system, battery management system, and related components. The contact’s daughter owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact’s daughter stated that while the vehicle was stopped at a stop sign, the vehicle lost automotive power. Due to the failure, the vehicle unexpectedly drifted into the intersection, into oncoming traffic, then drifted to the opposite side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The contact was informed that the failure was associated with the battery; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

Incident happened while sitting in the vehicle, diagnosing an issue with the catalytic converter. A loud noise was heard just as something struck me in the back/ side of the head. The result was my head being whipped forward/ sideways and leaving my head/ neck sore, especially when I woke up the next morning. Upon inspection, it was determined that the headrest in the driver seat had “deployed” unprovoked. Upon searching google / nhtsa for this issue I found that there were issues with other models that had extended warranties. I then contacted the vehicle owner and asked if they had received any notice about this issue. Vehicle owner replied that the passenger side headrest had already deployed unexpectedly while driving down the road, almost causing an accident, and was repaired at a dealership in March 2024. Vehicle owner also stated (and sent email proof) that the dealership stated that they “could not replace the driver side headrest if it was not deployed because they would be charged by the manufacturer if they turned in an undeployed headrest.” There were no lights, warnings or indications that the headrest was going to deploy. The vehicle is available for inspection and the headrest has not been repaired.

My vehicle is a 2023 jeep compass. I just had to replace my racket pinion, steering power train issue. There is no way at 70,000 miles this goes in a vehicle. No warning lights... Just loudin clanking when driving & turning...YES, inspected by jeep, dodge, ram dealership 0n 9/25/26. Had it fixed on 10/5/26 & paid a lot of money for it.

When driving on highway speeds, the car sometimes has a lightning bolt displayed on the dashboard and the car slows down to under 25 mph. Car needs to be parked or turned off and on again and then it can be driven to highway speeds again. Online says Electronic Throttle Control issue.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that on multiple occasions, while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a service center, where the battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that when the failure occurred, multiple warning lights illuminated, including the start/stop warning light. The contact stated that multiple attempts using the key fob were required to start the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the infotainment system displayed a blank screen due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by telephone. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Started chewing the rear tires off from the first 3k miles dealer never would address the problem. Had to voluntary surrender the vehicle cause we couldn’t pay for it and not have a driving vehicle

My 2022 Jeep Compass is stalling when I break going downhill. I have had it scanned and it stored codes are P032F and P2172. The combustion engine producing insufficient torque and sudden high airflow detected. I believe its a ruptured brake booster diaphragm dumping unmetered air into the intake. NHTSA has a open investigation into Compasses stalling while driving and Im filling the complaint to request a goodwill repair.

Defective brake pads and rotors, brake pads are digging into the rotors, more so when turning. vehicles has 15k miles, photos attached, brake pads are not worn down as seen in photos. Dealer refuses to repair claiming corrosion. Alot of reports of unusual brake pads and rotors wearing down way too fast for milage usage which points to defective parts. I purchased my 2022 Jeep Compass Latitude FWD brand new on April 4, 2022, from AutoNation Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Houston. Just eight days later, on April 12, 2022, I began reporting serious engine stalling and Auto Stop/Start malfunctions. The vehicle repeatedly shuts off in traffic and fails to restart automatically, requiring me to shift into Park, turn the vehicle off, and manually restart it. These incidents have occurred at traffic lights, on public roadways, and even on railroad tracks. On February 3, 2023, my vehicle shut off in traffic around 2:45 PM while I was picking up my niece and nephew from school. I was nearly rear-ended because the vehicle unexpectedly stopped operating. I immediately contacted the dealership and brought the vehicle in for inspection. The service department reportedly advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and kept it for further repairs. Despite numerous dealership visits, a complete transmission replacement in October 2022, and additional repairs in February 2023, the problem continued. On February 27, 2023, I notified Jeep Customer Care that the vehicle had stalled again shortly after being returned from repairs. Jeep/Stellantis has been aware of these safety concerns since 2022 through multiple dealership repair orders and Customer Care case #84688408. As of October 2026, the vehicle has approximately 63,773 miles. The Auto Stop/Start warning remains illuminated, and the vehicle has recently failed to start normally on two additional occasions. This is a recurring safety concern that has existed since the vehicle was brand new and has never been permanently resolved despite repeated manufacturer-authorized repairs. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this recurring engine stalling and restart failure as a potential vehicle safety defect.

In July 2026, I began receiving two warnings in sequence: (a) the airbags were not operating properly, and (b) the SOS call function was unavailable. Screenshots of both warnings are attached. It took several visits to a nearby dealership before the service department correctly identified and resolved the issue. I have attached both service reports: the initial report, which misidentified the problem, and the final report, which documents the correct root cause and repair. According to the final report, the warnings were caused by a short circuit in the airbag wiring. A broken metal wire from the driver’s seat support cage had pierced the wiring loom, causing the short circuit. Resolving the issue required replacing both the seat support cage and the wiring harness. I am attaching images of the broken cage and pierced wiring as a reference. I consider this a serious safety issue. As I understand the Jeep Compass user guide, an airbag warning light may indicate that the airbags could fail to deploy in an accident or deploy unexpectedly. Either outcome could result in severe injury or death. The simultaneous loss of the SOS call function further increased my safety concerns. I believe Jeep should take responsibility for investigating this failure, determine whether the metal wires in the seat support cage have a design or manufacturing weakness, and initiate a recall if warranted. I have retained the damaged cage and pierced wiring harness and am willing to provide them for investigation.
