POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
We were driving down the road and the car started violently shaking, the check engine light went on and the car wouldn't move. The car needed to be pushed to the gas station and we almost got hit with my son in his car seat. I do believe this is a safety concern that needs to be looked into for a possible recall. The mechanic determined that the transmission needed to be rebuilt.

SERVICE BRAKES
This was a rental vehicle. My concern is the emergency brake switch. It was accidentally activated by a passenger when they were trying to pickup a coin that had fallen where the switch is located while traveling at 40 mph. The emergency brake immediately engaged and an unsafe condition was encountered. Fortunately, an accident was avoided and we resumed our trip. My concern is a child or passenger can activate the switch in these vehicles where the switch is located in the center console resulting is an accident causing harm or injury. This switch needs a protective cover of some sort or disabled while the vehicle is in motion.

ENGINE
The vehicle just shuts off while in gear and in motion. Very dangerous. Lights come on (engine light, break light…) for a brief second before it randomly shuts off. It seems like the computer goes out, because on re start, the clock reset to 12:00 and there are no check engine lights on. It has happened several times over the past few hundred miles. An Internet search will show similar problems for other Jeep owners with no resolution. Obviously a defect.

Car jerks/bucks violently when accelerating, to the point of being unable to control steering and slamming me into steering wheel. This has happened numerous, numerous times. Was towed to dealership, who claimed it was a loose battery cable, charged me, and said it was good to go. The very same day I picked it up, it continues to do this, every time I drive it. It also will die completely and not restart when in park idling. This has happened at least 20x, which was also attributed to the loose cable. However it continues to do the exact same thing as before the dealership "fixed" it. I drive in the middle of nowhere, 40 miles to work in the early morning hours, making this especially unsafe as I have been stranded on a country road alone several times, which is highly unsafe as a female. I cannot continue to drive this as it is right now as I dont know when it may just stop running or not start, or start bucking violently causing me to crash or become injured. I do have videos of this happening several times over the course of less than two hours. There has also been a couple warning lights that have come on randomly (Electronic Throttle Control Warning Light, Electronic Stability Control Active Warning Light, Service Stop/Start Warning Light) and a message (Dynamic Steering Torque). I just bought this used from a dealership July 25, 2023. It is only December 26, 2023. I dont feel safe driving this vehicle and have given the dealership an opportunity to address and fix whatever may be causing it, to no avail. I do not wish to keep this vehicle, nor do I feel safe trusting in the dealership to make it a safe vehicle for me to continue to drive.

The vehicle just stopped functioning in the middle of me driving on a road with no shoulder, it spontaneously decelerated the gas did nothing, and ultimately rolled to a stop. I shut it off and it never restarted, the ignition button just made a terrible noise. I was left stranded in a bad service area no longer with the benefit of my car’s wifi because it wouldnt turn on.

WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY JEEP JUST CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP, IT LOCKED UP EVERYTHING. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HEARD OF THESE PROBLEMS, THEY TESTED EVERYTHING OUT AND SAID IT WAS POSSIBLY THE BATTERY, GOT THE BATTERY REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE, ONE WEEK LATER IT DID THE SAME THING WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT AND COULD NOT GET IT TO START, TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, AFTER A WHILE IT STARTED BACK UP. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE EXPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE A ONE YR OLD CHILD THAT IS IN THE CAR WITH ME, HOW CAN I FEEL SAFE IN A CAR THAT IS GOING TO STOP SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR ON A HIGHWAY. NOONE SEEMS TO KNOW THE PROBLEM TO GET THIS FIXED SO I CAN DRIVE MY CAR SAFELY ON THE ROADS. VERY SCARY.

While I’m at a stop sign or light, and I let my foot off the break, the high coolant temp light comes on and the car stalls. This has happened at least 30 times over the last 3 years. Today I was almost killed in an accident crossing a busy intersection because I stalled in the middle of the crossing after stopping at a stop sign. I’ve brought the jeep to dealerships and shops and none of them can recreate the event so they don’t know what’s wrong. They’ve checked everything that they can think to check. I’ve seen many complaints online of this happening to others with no resolve. What will it take? Someone is going to get killed. Sometimes it takes up to 15 minutes for the car to start again. Other times I have to have it towed. Today it took about 10 minutes with a lineup of cars behind me.

My 23 Jeep Compass engine light came on and it started running rough. Dealer says part of the exhaust valve came off and damaged the piston. Now it needs a new motor. I just purchased it in April 2023. It is now 12/12/23 and I took it to the dealer 11/11/23. This potentially could have happened while I was driving. This is why I believe this is a public safety issue. The engine could have locked up at anytime endangering myself and any passenger. Dealer will not giving a copy of the active work order.

When stopped at a stop sign (on a slight incline, if that could be a factor), the Compass suddenly lost power. No reaction from pressing the gas pedal at all. In Drive or in Reverse. The Check Engine light came on and the temperature gauge went all the way up. Putting it in Park and restarting cleared the Check Engine light and the temperature gauge was right back to normal. Almost like nothing had happened. Thankfully it was a small intersection with no other traffic. But could this happen on the freeway?

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the 4-WD, ABS, Hill Assist, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the differential malfunctioned due to a tightening and then releasing that occurred while attempting to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed and determined that the rear ABS sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and then confirmed that parts were not available nor longer in production. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Good evening, My name is [XXX] , I live in Boca Raton, FL, USA, and own a new car: Jeep 2022 Compass Lattitude VIN [XXX] . I report a serious safety hazard that can cause a crash injury or death that needs to be investigated and corrected. On Thursday, November 9 2023 I picked up my car from Arrigo Chrysler Jeep Autodealer located at 2250 FL-7, Margate, FL 33063 where my car was present for 13 (thirteen) days for the following service: a replacement of lost/stolen car keys. On the way from the Autodealer, my car started to push forward and back on the road when I pressed the acceleration pedal. The following signs immediately switched on: "Service Transmission", "Stop/Start System", "Tire pressure". I was able to immediately drive back to the Arrigo Chrysler Jeep Auto dealer. When I was returning an unsafe car, they reported to me: "an issue with the transmission", but have not clarified the code nor explained it to me. This accident on the road put me in fear for my life and I started to feel very anxious. I could not concentrate on the road. As of today, November, 30 my car is still present at the Arrigo Chrysler Jeep Auto dealer at 2250 FL-7, Margate, FL 33063 and I am not aware of what issue put my life and the life of my son in danger. I initiated contact with an auto dealer via email two (2) times: on November, 15 and November, 27, and have never received a response. Instead, today, November 30, 2023 at 5:43 pm I received a voicemail from Enterprise-Rent-A-Car that “I am set up by Arrigo Auto Dealership to return a rental car" that was provided to me on November 9, 2023, at a time when I drop off broken car. An issue with a brand new car that my family is going through and that I am making payments for is not acceptable to me or to any customers in the USA. I request to investigate the serious safety hazard defect of the car Jeep Compass 2022 that put my family's life in danger. Sincerely, [XXX] . The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated and there was a thumping sound coming from the front-end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the auxiliary battery which reset the check engine warning light. The thumping noise coming from the front-end of the vehicle persisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who determined that the rack-n-pinon failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

I’ve had plans with my Transmission. This is its third time. First two times were under 30,000 miles and still under warranty. And were replaced by the dealer . Using my warranty. There was also a motor fire. Brakes and rotors all the way around mind you all under 30,000. Transmission was put in. I am now at 101,500. And transmissions going out so it’s been parked. Sitting in my garage. The warning lamps come on, which is a parentheses with a lightning bolt in the middle(⚡️) Last time I did the repairs through Ramona Tires and I paid for out-of-pocket using my credit This time I was told a new transmission for the car is $7000 which I don’t have

POWER TRAIN
SUV has died several times for no reason. Taken to dealership several times. They laugh and say it’s normal for this compass. Engine oil is constantly low and they say that it’s common for oil to just disappear on these suvs. Nothing can be recreated at the dealership each time. I’ve been driving down the road with two kids in the car and traffic behind me and the car just dies and doesn’t want to restart. This morning my heater stopped working. No lights came on. No sensors went off. Car was out of coolant and not one single low sensor light came on. Oil has to be added in between each 3000 mile oil change. Seat has broken twice. No sensors for oil low. No sensors for coolant. Nothing to let you know your engine is 3.5 quarts low of oil before the 3000 mile oil change is due. It’s bad when the dealership knows all of this and it’s considered normal to spend $28000 on a vehicle which has all these issues! Now there is a popping noise when you turn the wheels and i see the lower control arms are on recall but not for mine. Engine oil issue is on recall but not for mine. Is it going to take someone getting killed when their car stalls out before anything is done? I’ve also had to replace the batteries already last year and now my auto start stop system has quit working again. Last time this happened it was the battery. So I’m going to have to replace it again. Worst vehicle I’ve ever had.

I was driving to work and my car stopped accelerating on its own. My speedometer read 0 and I rolled into a parking lot. I was not able to drive any longer. I turned the car off, then turned it back on. The car made a loud grinding noise, then turned on. I was able to leave the parking lot and started driving home, less than half a mile away. I entered my driveway and it happened again. I rolled to a stop in front of my house then turned the car off. This also happened to my 2008 Jeep Compass. Car parts.com states “: the CVT transmission on their Jeep Compass would overheat whenever the outside temperature is high or when they’re driving at high speeds on the interstate. Their vehicles would suddenly produce unusual whining noises and lose the ability to maintain their speed.” This is what happened to me, 3 times in the last week.
