My car has completely shut off at an intersection/stop light twice. Shuts off while in drive tells me I need to start again. Emergency brake engages. One of the times I had to be towed out of the intersection. I spent $500 replacing both batteries thinking it may be that. A month later (today) car strands me at a stoplight again. Same thing car cuts off and emergency brakes engages. This time after 4 attempts I was finally able to start it to get out of way of traffic’s.

While Auto start stop is active, and when the vehicle comes to a stop the engine stops but then doesn't restart like it's supposed to, the cluster says vehicle needs to be restarted, then after putting shifter into park I can restart the vehicle normally, but this has happened 3 times now at busy intersections causing my vehicle to block traffic when the light turns green. I have to remember to manually turn Auto start stop off everytime I start my vehicle to prevent this from happening or keep my climate turned up since the auto start stop won't engage while cooling or heating the cabin.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with an excessive amount of play in the passenger’s side front axle. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to a transmission specialist. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 68,900.

The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while reversing out of the driveway, the steering wheel was turned to the left, and the sway bar link detached from the front driver’s side of the vehicle. The contact stated that the sway bar link was made of plastic. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to National Automotive Parts Association Auto Parts and the contact was informed that the sway bar link on the front of the vehicle should be made of metal. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,870.

STRUCTURE:BODY, SUSPENSION
The rear subframe and suspension are rusted. I have been hearing a rattling sound for the past couple of weeks, especially when driving over bumps. When I took the car to my mechanic, he detected a cracking in the rear subframe/suspension due to the rust. If this would totally break it would be a substantial safety risk to myself, the driver, as well as other drivers on the road. No warning lights or messages appeared on the car to warn of this problem.

The defrost system built into the front windsheild shorted out. This issue resulted in sparking and smoking inside of the car while the front electrical defrost was turned on. This issue could have easily resulted in catastrophic events had we not realized exactly what was happening. There were no warnings of the sytem being in failure. The issue is also apparently not covered under the vehicle warranty and now will cost out of pocket to replace something that I had no control over. The dealership was able to confirm the issue.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power from the transmission. The contact stated that the vehicle was coasted to a safe location. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and operated as intended. The vehicle was driven to the destination. The contact also stated that the process was repeated three times, going to work and three times while returning from work. The contact connected the vehicle to a diagnostic machine and received a code that Torque request denied. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

I leased a 2018 jeep compass in the month of September that year brand new. light kept appearing on my dash that I was not familiar with. Basically it had to do with parking on a hill indicator, the radio wouldn’t always work either, and a loud boom on Highway. However we parked the car on flat grounds at all times. That was the beginning of the malfunctioning with this vehicle. I had just got an oil change end of 2019, one day driving in an alley area with my 2year old daughter, my car literally shut off on me while driving at speeds of 10 mph. Everything shut off. Fortunately I was able to turn it back on and the next day took it to the dealership. The result was I needed a brand new engine. WHAT, it’s a little over a year old how can this be? The oil was gone all cylinders were shot, not sure what that meant but a month without my car I received it back with a new refurbished engine. Fortunately all was covered under the manufacturer warranty. Thought the problems were solved. Nope it constantly has malfunctions with the radio, reverse camera doesn’t always work, a loud bang happens when I’m on the highway at the highway speed, let my foot off the accelerator and a loud bang happens. On [XXX], in the middle of an intersection my foot was on the brake and the on/off engine thing went off. Then I proceeded to accelerate and the car shut off. This time all the lights were on inside the dash area but my brake locked up so hard and the steering wheel along with the windows wouldn’t work. I placed the car in park and the e brake and for 15 minutes tried turning it back on. It was terrifying, it turned on and brought it to the dealership and explained the situation. It’s currently there now and at the moment they say it’s the battery. I DO NOT feel safe in this car being that I always have my children in the car all the time. An investigation needs to be seriously opened with these vehicles. I’ve been paying for a car that has potentially risked my families life. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM

The car only has 47,000 miles on it and the steering wheel buttons stopped working, then while the car was off the windshield wipers started going and wouldn’t stop until the battery died, then when the car battery was charged and the car was started the windshield wipers stopped working, the brake lights stopped working and then the signal lights.

The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the rear struts replaced; however, the mechanic informed the contact that the rear suspension was extremely corroded. The contact was also informed that the vehicle was not safe to be driven. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact's daughter-in-law owns a 2012 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that an additional 20-30 minutes was needed to fill the fuel tank while refueling. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed, and it was determined that the roll-over valve was damaged. The failure was linked to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V142000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The dealer later referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for additional assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Passenger seat headrest ejected itself. Outside of the car was getting a handwash and suddenly the headrest just shot open. Now nobody is able to sit in passenger seat safely. Unsure how this could happen as car was operating just fine prior.

I have spent over 2500.00 on my HID headlights. They keep blowing I have replaced the headlight assembly along with bulbs many times. From what I can read it is an ongoing problem with this model. Also my lane departure system goes from side to side does not keep my jeep centered in the lane.

My car has "overheated" over 20 times since I purchased this vehicle in November 2022. The "High Coolant Temperature" warning comes on, the temperature gage goes all the way up, the check engine light comes on along with the "lighting bolt" red symbol. This causes my vehicle to shut down. I have to put it into park, press the button to restart. Sometimes it takes several tries to get it to start again. I have been in almost 4 accidents because of this. Other times it happens when the automatic start re-engages at a stop light. It has happened while I am in my garage and it has been sitting overnight. It has happened while driving for 10 minutes, hours, etc. I have taken this into the dealership several times and they have not been able to find any codes or issues. At one point the dealership had my vehicle for 2 weeks trying to duplicate the issue to no avail. It comes and goes so quickly I have only been able to get a picture of the warning lights but not the high coolant temperature warning. This is a huge safety issue.
