The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the infotainment system screen display inadvertently turned black. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the infotainment system screen needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the part; however, the rearview camera became inoperable after the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that a software update was being developed to correct the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Volkswagen increased the tire diameter of the Taos S 4motion and Taos SE 4motion for 2024 and either did not recalibrate the speedometer or made an error when doing so. Some variants of the VW Atlas might have a similar issue (two reports so far). Because of this corporate negligence, the speedometer reads about 5% LOW. At an indicated 70 MPH the vehicle is actually traveling nearly 74. If exceeding the speed limit kills, then this is a safety issue. It definitely leads to people breaking the law without realizing it. I personally got a speeding ticket as a result. I thought the officer was lying about my speed--but he wasn't. The speedometer was lying. I've asked other owners of these Taos models to check, and every one that has checked (about ten so far) reports the same exact error--it's by design, not just one or two vehicles. A speedometer that reads low is not even legal in the EU. It might be legal in the US, but should not be. The regulation probably dates to a time when speedometers were entirely mechanical and could lose accuracy over time. In this case VW could have properly calibrated the speedometer but did not due to either negligence or incompetence. Perhaps it simplifies the manufacturing process, by letting them use one calibration for multiple tire sizes, and they're taking advantage of the leeway provided by a lax, outdated American regulation. It is an entirely avoidable problem, and indicates that VW does not care about the impact on its American customers. This problem only appears to affect models that are not sold in Germany, where the inaccuracy would be illegal. Please update the regulation and require VW to properly calibrate their speedometers to eliminate the harm being done to American drivers. I have photos and video to substantiate the speedometer inaccuracy. Let me know if this would help. You can replicate the issue yourself with any 2024 Taos S 4motion or SE 4motion with 215/55R18 tires.

Driving uphill on the highway at 80 mph with cruise control on. I then turned the cruise control off. Vehicle lost complete engine power and could no longer accelerate. All the warning lights came on, vehicle displayed “max rpm 4000x” with little speed left on vehicle I was able to move to the shoulder of highway and park. The vehicle displayed EPC light and “Please start engine manually” after several minutes I restarted vehicle it did start but it was delayed. I resumed my commute and after getting off the highway I came to a complete stop at the stop sign and when I accelerated the vehicle felt like the brakes got slammed on and it jerked, while a vehicle was following close behind me. Extreme safety hazard

I went for my 30K mile warranty check. As I was as driving to the appointment the red engine light came on. It was the engine coolant. There is an issue with the head gasket on this model. I asked for it to be checked. The Service department said there is no leak and they replenished the coolant. I have read about this with many other VW Taos owners. I was also told I need new brakes. The brakes were replaced 16,000 miles ago. The brakes are substandard. This is the second time I've needed brakes on my car. I only have 29K miles on the car.

2022 VW Taos 18k miles leaking coolant - coolant light is coming on 1x per month with minimal driving and mild conditions. I have had it diagnosed 3x at the dealership and they find “no leaks” and their directive is keep an eye on the reservoir. VW forums are full of similar stories where the head gasket needs to be replaced.

Periodically, when trying to accelerate, the car stutters as if it's not getting any fuel and the check engine light will flash on briefly, then go off, and keep flashing on when pressing the gas pedal. It will continue to do this until you stop, turn the car off, open then close the door, let it set for about a minute, start the car again, and you HAVE to turn off the Automatic start/stop. Once you do that, and continue to keep turning off the auto start/stop every time you start the car for a few days to a week, it will resolve the issue for about a few months (or shorter if you drive frequently to where the auto start/stop is activated more frequently). -Engine? -Fuel Injection? -Automatic Start/Stop The car stuttered and acted like it was going to shut off while driving down the road. This could have caused an accident or even caused irreplaceable engine damage. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center because it is random and once you shut the car off and the auto start/stop, it resolves the issue for a short time. I have called the dealer and I have called VW company to report the issue, but they both just refer me back to the other. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. No symptoms or warning lamps. The check engine light only comes on after the car stutters and struggles to accelerate for a few seconds, then it will flash on and off depending of if I am pressing the gas pedal.

- #11606889August 6, 2024SERVICE BRAKES
Good afternoon, I own a 2022 VW Taos since April of 2022, I took my car for service to the dealership for 10k and 20k. When my vehicle had approximately 14,000 miles I do not know if the technicians actually checked my rear breaks. One more thing I got a letter from VW company saying that the VW Taos had issues with premature worn out rear brakes, the warranty was extended for a period of time of 2 years or 24,000 miles. Recently close to 2 weeks ago my Taos started making really bad noises coming from my rear breaks, made and appointment for today 10:00 am 8/6/2024 at Emich VW in Denver Co. When 30k service was performed and rear breaks were checked the VW gave me the surprise that I needed new rear breaks replacement of pads and rotors, I informed them about the service bulletin of the issues with the rear breaks but they stated that because the deadline was on April/2024 it was not covered under warranty. This is very frustrating because VW should extend the warranty on something that they know is defective from the factory and they already knew the issues that they had with the rear breaks, now dealership gave a quote of over 900 dlls to get it fix, my safety was at risk including my family's because VW knew about this but they gave a deadline of 2 years knowing that the breaks will fail around 24,000 miles or after the 2 years, something is wrong with the break system and I know because I used to be a mechanic. It has been just over 4 months since the deadline on April and I would like to make VW responsible for this issues and fix my car for free under warranty.

Malfunction: Acceleration failure from a full stop. on [XXX], with approx 300 miles on the vehicle, I needed to pull onto the two lanes going my direction on right. On my left was a wide curve blinded by large full trees on [XXX] in Delaware with traffic running 55-65ish. It was a doable look-twice then hustle situation. Waited for traffic to clear, nothing in sight, pulled out fuller throttle but it crawled...immediately I went full throttle with no effect as it continued to steadily crawl for several long seconds until turbo activated. This was way outside of normal-clearly I had been placed in a dangerous situation but thankfully no traffic approached before full speed was obtained. There have been no warning lamps or messages. As for possible symptoms prior to the incident, I had complained to the dealer, day after purchase about the amount of lagging and lunging I was beginning to take notice of, as well as when accelerating from lower gears, it wanted to pull back - like a tap on the brakes. Two workers test drove, expressed experiencing this and determined issue was attributed to being in 'ECO mode' and recommended/showed how to change to regular 'driving mode', which helped but not significantly. Just as easily the children could have been riding with me in the car seats as they often do. This incident was disturbing and I take it seriously. On [XXX], this repeated itself to a lesser yet unacceptable degree taking a right from a standstill on [XXX] in Danville PA. These I reported to the dealership on 7/19 and reported 2nd incident on 7/29 at first scheduled service visit. The incidents have not reproduced themselves so not confirmed by the dealer...no fault codes were identified in ECM, no further diagnostics were performed. My printer doesn't scan-please send me the address so I can mail you a copy of the first service visit 7/30 to be attached to this report. First, I purchased my 2022 VW Taos (VIN [XXX] ) brand new from Rudolph VW in El Paso, Texas on [XXX]. For the most part, the vehicle has maintained its integrity until it was brought to my attention that the rear brakes needed replacement at 7, 230 miles. The brake replacement occurred April of 2023 and replaced by a warranty extension that was offered by VW and at no cost to me. As you can see, not too many miles are on the vehicle from date of purchase to the time the brakes were replaced in April of 2023. Based on my conversation with the dealership, VW is very aware of this problem based on the mere fact that the quality of the brake pad is not up to par. On June of 2024, I took my car in for a wheel alignment and was told once again the rear brakes were in need of replacement at a cost to me of $600. I was really confused and concerned how this can be since I don’t have a lot of miles on the vehicle YoY. After discussing this issue with the Certified VW Mechanic at the dealership, other Taos owners have experienced the same problem with the rear brake's wearing out too soon! I also got a second opinion from a reputable mechanic in my area, and was told the rear brakes shouldn’t be wearing out that quickly. While there, after additional inspection of the rear brakes, the mechanic made me aware the left rear caliper is damaged and requires replacement. At this point, I am seeking help to begin an investigation which I hope will create a recall. I thank you for your attention to this matter. If you require documentation, please let me know. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I purchase a 2022 VW Taos in February of 2022. Right after I purchase I got a coolant warning light. Took it to dealer and they added coolant. This stated happening a couple of time with the same fix by dealer. In March of 2023 they tested the cooling system and found nothing wrong and said the reason the car was loosing coolant was because the cap was not installed correctly and the coolant evaporated. The car still continues to loose coolant. Took the car back a few more times again the same fix, add coolant. Last week the check engine light came on and took the car to dealer. Now they tell me the car needs a new head cover gasket and since I have 58,000 miles it is no longer under warranty. I have taken the car to the dealership numerous times for the coolant being low and nothing was ever done to fix it. Now I am stuck paying $5200 for repairs that should have been done when the car was under warranty but an incompetent dealership never figured out what was wrong with it.

Vehicle will take off like a rocket when accelerating from a stop. I had to restart the vehicle because it had no acceleration before issue started. Took to the dealer was told that this is normal. I was then advised to put the vehicle in sport mode and it should stop. Vehicle has only 3300 miles on it and this is a new issue that just started. Took it to a local shop and it showed a p2422 so we took it to the dealer and that’s when they stated no codes found and no issues found. We have multiple videos of the rocket take off.
