The contact coasted to the side of the road and inspected the engine while attempting to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that a rod had fractured in cylinder #1, causing the engine to fail. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V511000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

I am filing this complaint regarding an unresolved safety recall for the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) on my 2017 Dodge Ram 3500, VIN ending in [XXX] , under Recall Number C4B/NHTSA 24V-896. We received the recall notification months ago and have been waiting ever since for further instructions or a remedy from FCA US LLC. After more than six months, we still have no resolution. Recently, the vehicle was towed to Patterson Dodge in Tyler, TX, where it was inspected by the dealership. They confirmed that there is currently no remedy available for the HCU issue and stated they have no idea when a fix will be provided. This is not just a matter of inconvenience — this is a critical safety concern. FCA's own recall notice clearly states: “The loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.” We purchased this truck specifically to tow our 5th wheel camper, which we now cannot safely operate due to the safety risk posed by this unresolved recall. Without proper braking and stability control systems, towing a heavy load would be incredibly dangerous, not only to us but to everyone else on the road. We understand that vehicle recalls can take time to resolve. However, it is extremely concerning that: FCA has offered no timeline or remedy after many months. The vehicle remains inoperable for its intended purpose due to the unresolved recall. We were never proactively contacted with updates and had to follow up on our own. The dealership confirmed the part is not only unavailable but with no estimated time of arrival. We respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether FCA is meeting its obligations under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act to provide a timely and effective recall remedy. A known safety defect has been identified, but the remedy is indefinitely delayed, and the manufacturer is not offering alternative solutions (loaner vehicle, buyback, etc.) while we are left with a vehicle we cannot safely use. Nexen Roadian HTX RH5 LT235 / 80 R 17. While driving down interstate and pulling a 21,000 lb GVWR fifth wheel trailer, the truck began vibrate. After stopping it appeared that the front passenger tire was out of round. This was confirmed after jacking up the vehicle. Suspect internal damage to the radials. The tire had a total of 16,600 miles on it. Tire had cold pressure of 80 psi and was just checked 4 days prior to the incident. Luckily, the issue was discovered prior to a catastrophic failure, so no damage or accident occured for this particular failure.

- #11667995June 19, 2025FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My 2022 RAM 3500 has repeated failures of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) system. The truck enters limp mode unexpectedly, including while towing on the interstate, creating a serious safety hazard due to sudden loss of power. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced ongoing issues with the emissions system, specifically related to the DPF. The check engine light comes on frequently, and diagnostic scans consistently show code P2459 (Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Frequency Too High). The DPF system has been replaced approximately five times by authorized RAM dealer. Despite these repairs, the same problem continues to occur. The truck will sometimes enter limp mode without warning, drastically reducing engine power. This has happened while towing a camper on the interstate, making it difficult or impossible to maintain safe highway speeds or accelerate when needed. This puts me, my passengers, and other motorists at risk of a crash, particularly when merging or changing lanes in fast-moving traffic. I have already pursued and settled a claim with Stellantis (RAM’s manufacturer) for $10k due to these issues. However, the problem persists, and the root cause has not been resolved. Accepting the settlement was recommended by legal counsel. The failure has occurred on multiple occasions (at least five separate incidents). The vehicle has undergone several service visits and emissions system replacements, but the safety issue continues. Current mileage 42,000. Dates of incidents from most recent: 6/25 (still in shop), 3/25, 9/24, 8/24,7/24,6/24,4/24,1/24,7/23,6/23,11/22. Documentation available upon request. Diesel particulate filter (DPF) system replaced approximately five times. I believe there is a defect in the design or operation of the emissions system that poses a safety risk. Loss of power while driving at highway speeds or towing creates a dangerous situation. I am reporting this in hopes that NHTSA will investigate this recurring issue.

Safety recall over 5 months ago on ram 3500 truck used solely for pulling 10k camper. NG hydraulic control valve with possible failure of ABS without warning. Contacted dealer in early jan. 2025. They are aware and said they would call when part came in. Called back today after no communication in 6 months. Told no part in stock and no part to order. Asked if it was safe to drive and was told it wasnt a dealer responsibility and it was my desision. Called chrysler recall number and told the same thing and they would not give mw anything in writing saying the truck was safe to drive. Looked online and that part number hydraulic valve is readily available on mopar.com parts site. The issue from what i understand is they refuse to divert those valves of oem assembly line needs for the recall. To say this is frustrating and concerning would be an understatement.
