Driving a company vehicle [XXX], heavy smoke started coming from under the drivers side dash. Unhooked battery, the smoke stopped. I had vehicle towed to a local garage. They advised the engine wiring harness and other wiring had caught on fire. They couldn't repair it. On [XXX]. I had the vehicle towed to the local GMC dealer in Bedford, VA. At first they said they could fix it, then around 7/3/24 they said the couldn't fix it, charging several hundreds of dollars. On July 5/2024 I had the vehicle towed to a GMC dealership in Lynchburg, VA who I had check with and said they could fix it. The first part of September 2024, this dealership advised me the couldn't fix the vehicle. I had the vehicle tow to our companies office in Lynchburg. The dealerships are saying they can't get the needed wiring harnesses. Our insurance company had sent an adjuster to the GMC in Bedford, VA. No warning lamps came on before the smoke. Engine failure of lifters and piston rings at 58000 miles. Engine failure at highway speeds causing complete loss of power on highway. It is completely unacceptable to have such catastrophic engine failure on such a new vehicle.

Both second row seatbelt retractors have had issues retracting. We had them checked today while our car was in for other issues. Both seatbelt retractors are broken and need replacing ($1600). Without replacing them, the passengers using those seats would be at grave risk in an accident. We are the original owners of the vehicle, our young children are fastened in their booster seats with parental help. There has been no extreme wear and tear or any abuse to the seatbelts.

I purchased a 2017 yukon xl denali. In the short time that I have had the vehicle the transmission has started to make a loud audible popping noise when coming to a complete stop. I have take the vehicle to the GM dealership multiple times to try and get the problem fixed and according to them it is something with the transmission that they don't know exactly how to fix. So I am stuck with this 8l90 transmission that is a piece of junk and can't even get a rebuilt transmission from companies like Jasper due to the issues of these transmissions.

GMC currently has bulletin out on the issue and how to fix it. unfortunately this doesn't not fix it and I am going to have to replace my whole rear differential at only 60,500 miles. Gmc is well aware of the situation and has not done a recall. The fix the bulletin proposes would not work and there was over and inch of metal shaving found. This is a huge issue in the specific vehicle and the part to replace the rear differential isn't even available (national backorder with no ETA) leaving customers without a vehicle or solution for their faulty issues. GMC should be liable for their negligence and putting customers in potential harm if the vehicle is continued to be driven with a failing rear differential. The vehicle did not prompt any warning messages but the grinding sound was very loud. Bulletin No.: 21-NA-028 Date: January, 2023

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 20 MPH in two wheel-drive(2WD), the vehicle started reversing while the transmission was in drive(D). The contact stated that after her husband switched to four-wheel-drive(4WD) and exceeded 40 MPH, the vehicle responded as needed. The vehicle was driven to the grandparent's residence, where it was parked. The check engine warning light was illuminated while the transmission was in park(P). The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who replaced the torque converter, the transmission, and several other unknown parts. No further information was available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

There has always been break problems with this vehicle. Some recalls have been done. Now there is a new problem, I took it to the dealership. There is a special coverage to fix this issue. GM denied to fix it because the special coverage expired on 06/06/2024. But the vehicle is under the miles and the problem just started.

- #11627157November 25, 2024UNKNOWN OR OTHER, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
The onstar system failed and will not work. This affects the ability to make emergency calls, report/determine our vehicle’s location, the vehicle’s navigation system, and some of the blind spot monitors are also affected, though intermittently. The issue first happened two days after the dealer fixed a recall with the serial data gateway module. We called onstar and they were able to resend a signal and it was fixed temporarily. Two days later it happened again and the amount of electronics affected in the vehicle is astounding. We called onstar again and went through all the troubleshooting and they say they can’t fix it, it’s a dealer problem now and the module needs to be replaced. The dealer states this is a common problem but will not cover it under warranty. In the beginning there was no immediate indication that systems had failed other than certain electronics not working. However after a couple weeks there is now a check engine light associated with all the electronics that are failing due to this defective telecom module. In a 2 year old vehicle, this is highly frustrating and poses safety concerns for my family.

Our 2021 GMC Yukon XL for the third time now has shifted from Drive to Neutral and then turned off on us on the highway. The first time GM changed the motor (at approximately 35,000 miles), the second time was about a month ago we were at the White Mountains and it shut off on a highway, the third time was yesterday [XXX] (with 61,057 miles), my wife and I were driving on [XXX] in Massachusetts and when I accelerated the vehicle shifted from Drive to Neutral and then shut off on me. This vehicle is not safe and on all of these three occasions I have been lucky not to be hit and have been the driver. I am a trained and professional driver and I must state that this vehicle is not safe at all. I need to find a solution to this with General Motors. The contact owns a 2019 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, and approaching a red light, the brakes failed to operate upon the depression of the brake pedal. The brake pedal was firm while the contact steered the vehicle off the shoulder of the road. Due to the failure, the contact drove through the intersection and allowed the vehicle to coast to a complete stop. Upon restart of the vehicle, the "Brake Assist" message flashed on the instrument panel. The contact's husband was called to the scene and later drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and discovered that the vacuum pump had failed. The vehicle was repaired by the mechanic. The dealer was notified of the failure and offered to inspect the vehicle; the dealer then referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 131,600.

Both seat belt retractors seem to be failing and something inside the retractor is cutting the seat belt. I had to replace the right seatbelt because it snapped after it was rubbing on the retractor inside the body. Now it seems the left side is having the same issue. The left seatbelt now will not retract and it looks like it's been rubbing also so eventually it will probably break.

Driving back from Las Vegas for a family trip, traffic was heavy, a lot of stop-and go. I started to feel the brakes delay to stop. After a few minutes I was able to pick up a little speed and again traffic was built up. This time the brakes failed and got stiff. I had to slam on the brakes and practically stand up on the brakes in order for the car to stop. I barely avoided wrecking into the car in front of me. I was a few hours away from home and had to drive all the way with this problem. When I got home I took it in to the nearest dealer shop to get the brakes checked . I looked online and found out about the recall on the brakes.

Complete engine failure while operating the vehicle with our children riding along as passengers. The engine failure nearly caused us to wreck. 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali with only 15,000 miles. And now, I am being told that I need a complete engine replacement and that GMC is well aware of these engine failures and the product defects, yet GMC has refused to issue a recall. To add insult to injury, I’m being told by dealership that it may take several months to get a new engine! We will be pursuing legal action.

2022 Yukon XL, (49465 miles) while driving in stop and go traffic, engine quit, able to roll off roadway, restart engine and get back in "drive", this occurred three times in succession when we took foot off accelerator, with in 50 minutes (45 min) time line. This occurred on 9/29/24 took vehicle to dealership on 10/14/24 (earliest appointment), they completed two recalls, could not fined any thing wrong and no "codes" were showing. Engine seemed to "shutter" not like a electrical was disconnected to engine (my opinion). This a safety issue and should be addressed! What is going to happen when this occurs when pulling out in traffic or passing a vehicle? Fatal crash????
