It is unknown at this time what is wrong with the vehicle. The problem started two weeks ago. Initially after driving sustained highway speeds, the van will hesitate to brake when driving through town. When approaching a stop it would stutter to a stop and then stutter to drive again when pressing the gas, the delay was about 2-3 seconds. In two weeks time with approximately 200 miles driven, it started stalling at stops. Once at a traffic light and also at a stop sign. These incidents happened in the same day and since then, it had not been driven due to it being a major safety concern. It has been taken to an auto shop that has run the full diagnostics on it and the computer system is not catching any issues, there are no lights are on the dash. After the engine stalls, it runs if it is turned off and back on again. The brakes, rotors, and tires were replaced when I started noticing that there was an issue with stopping, I figured the problem was that they needed replaced since I have owned the vehicle 2 years and it hadn’t been done since I purchased the van. March 17 was the date it stalled twice and it was the only time the engine stalled in the past two weeks.

The driver side sliding door locking mechanism is locked and will not open using the button or manually. Therefore, that door will not open at all. If that passenger needed to escape the vehicle quickly it would not be possible. It also makes repairing the mechanism more difficult and the cost for these repairs at a dealer are very prohibitive. It appears that this is an ongoing issue with Dodge Grand Caravans and like models and seems like an unsafe planned obsolescence of the parts that are supposed to be make this vehicle safer. No codes are registering on the dashboard.

hard misfire and rough idle creating issues while in traffic, almost rear ended multiple times because of loss of acceleration. inspection by mechanic says misfire in cylinder 2 couldn't be fixed. (multiple coils and spark plug replacements) mechanice made contact with a GM certified mechanic who indicated this is a common problem in the 3.6 engine used in these vehicles. Issue is deep within engine and requires complete engine replacement. It was explained to me that the engine could keep going as-is, or debris could begin breaking off inside the engine and cause total loss at any time. researched and found similar issue with 2012 engines.

Travelling at the speed of 55 miles per hour the vehicle seemed to completely shut off on its own, thus causing immediate loss of power steering and power brakes. I was able to very carefully bring the vehicle to a complete stop after a half a mile or so. Fortunately, I was travelling on a long straight county road without any surrounding traffic. Once I turned the ignition totally off and back on again at the side of the road, everything seems to operate as normal. No check engine light, no other warnings came on thereafter. After doing some research online I found customer complaints experiencing the very same issues with certain Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles, however Dodge doesn’t seem to have any sort of recall for this extremely hazardous issue. It seems like it may be a faulty ignition switch problem!

The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The contact stated that the failure was draining the battery and causing the rearview camera to become inoperable. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 11V139000 (Electrical System) and 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags). An unknown dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that an unknown recall repair had already been performed on the vehicle. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power, coming to a complete stop in the middle of a busy intersection, nearly causing a crash. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission pump, resulting in damage to the transmission and requiring a replacement transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train) but the VIN was not included. The driver's side sliding door is stuck in the locked position and the passenger side sliding door is making a loud buzzing noise when unlocked which means that one is next to go out from what I read. If both of them get locked this poses a major safety issue getting small passengers out of the back in case of emergency. There have been many instances of this reported on these vehicles and even extended warranties issued but only for a select amount of vans even though it seems to happen on every one ever made.

My check engine light came on in November 2023 and the code was a cylinder 2 misfire, so I had new spark plugs, ignition coil, and intake gaskets put in. About 2 days later, my check engine light came back on. I went back to the shop and was told it could be a number of things, but was not provided any set explanation. I then noticed that they engine light will turn off randomly, but then come right back on, so I thought it might be a wiring issue. I took my vehicle to my mechanic for diagnostic, due to my check engine light still being on after having the spark plugs, ignition coil, and intake gaskets replaced within the last 6 months. My mechanic said that my vehicle needs a new cylinder head, and that he has seen this same issue with several other Dodge Grand Caravans, and that another vehicle with the same parts was recalled for the same problem.

My 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan GT driver side sliding door is jammed shut and locked. I took it to 2 dealerships near me and both want almost $1000 per door to fix. The actuator is out and they said the loud noise when opening and closing the passenger side sliding door is a sign that door is also about to go out. My VIN doesn’t fall into the recalls. This seems like it is a hazard. If both doors indeed get stuck then how do you get car seats in and out? Isn’t it dangerous if other kids have to climb in and out the front doors? I’m so confused how this isn’t a recall when it will be dang near impossible to move car seats and kids through front doors or even moving 3rd row to get in and out and put back up for it to be sat in.
