Engine light came on with code. Was for 3 way coolant heater valve. Purchased part and replaced a few weeks ago. Engine light is back on . I see online chrysler had a recall for the same issue on the 2017 Dodge ram. I called NTSB to check on recall they said could be internal recall at chrysler. I tried to call Chrysler and I am put on hold. I would like Chrysler to authorize this to be fixed further at a local Chrysler/Dodge dealer in my area. Attached is the prior recall for the same issue that I am having now. There obviously is an issue that company is aware of and had a recall. Now it is happening to newer models an there should be a recall to be fixed free of charge. NTSB shows NO safety recall for this. There are MANY reports in forums on the internet of this exact problem. It is code P2681. "A 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 may have been subject to a recall regarding the "3-way coolant heater control valve" due to a potential issue with the valve's internal circuit board, which could cause it to stick in a position that prevents proper coolant flow to the heater core, impacting windshield defrosting capabilities; this recall is identified as NHTSA Campaign Number 13V-177."

- #11635484January 12, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Driving on the interstate without cruise control on at 70 mph. I had a vehicle passing in the fast lane and a vehicle in front of me slowing down so I applied a little pressure to my brake peddle and my truck automatically began to accelerate on its own. I kept pushing on the brake peddle and it was stuck in a acceleration. The brakes tried slowing it down but it would not stop acceleration once I took my foot of the brake peddle it just rapidly began to pick up speed on its own again! I ended up pushing down on the break peddle long enough to turn off the engine and coast off to the side on the interstate. I was so glad it happened while I was driving it and not my wife she could of wrecked into the back of the vehicle in front of us and caused a multiple car crash! The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) light came on while I was pushing down on the brakes to try stopping the truck, but once I turned the engine off and back on again the (ETC) did not come back on although the brake lights stayed on for about 10 miles.

On [XXX] my power steering system completely froze in sub-0 temperatures. The wheels were unable to steer right or left. After idling for some time, it unfroze resulting in a grinding noise and very stiff steering. This has continued where the steering freezes in cold temperatures and continues to grind. The vehicle was brought to Main Motor in Johnstown NY (dealer) to inspect this and they determined that the Steering Rack (which includes the EPS) had failed- mainly the steering gear. The truck has 88,000 miles. This is a sealed, unserviceable system and should not fail at this point. The dealer price for a replacement part was $3010 plus labor. As the truck had been out of warranty for a month, I brought it to an independent shop for confirmation and they will be completing the repair. These steering systems are a known issue, I spoke to the consumer complaint department at Ram and through the dealer. Neither wanted to rectify the situation at their own cost. The electric power steering failed without notice on 12-12-24. I was driving all day with no incident. I stoped for about 5 minutes and when I restarted my truck the steering wheel was stiff. Received a warning light to service power steering. I had no choice but to drive back home without the power steering working with much difficulty. I then scanned the truck and it gave me fault code C2217 status:MIL/CONFIRMED - Electric Power Steering Module Internal: No Sub Type Information. After disconnecting all connections and confirming there wasn’t no corrosion present, I cleaned all connections to the battery as a precaution and once everything was put back the power steering worked. Everything worked perfectly until 1-3-25 when the power steering went out again with the same fault code. I was able to get the truck home where I reinspected all connections. Once I reconnected everything the power steering worked again. It continued to work until 1-6-25 and has not worked since. Mechanic confirmed that the power steering module failed and the entire rack and pinion assembly needs to be replaced. He also mentioned this is a common issue with these trucks and there was an open investigation on FCA due to it. When the power steering fails it creates a safety risk to everyone on the road due to the fact the truck is extremely difficult the steer and can lead to an accident. The truck is currently available for inspection upon request due to the high cost of repair.

On or around august of 2023 I received a warning light to service ABS system. After I scanned the truck I received the following codes, C2200 status: MIL/CONFIRMED - Anti-lock Brake Module Internal: Internal Electronic Failure, and U0415 status: MIL/CONFIRMED - Invalid Data Received from Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module 'A’: No Sub Type Information. I took the truck to a mechanic to confirm and repair. I was told that the ABS module would need to be replaced but that it was on back order. Since then the ABS system has randomly worked properly and randomly failed. Without a properly working ABS system it is very dangerous to drive due to the lack of traction control, anti-lock brakes, trailer brakes and all other items related to the ABS system. This could cause an accident. I have tried since to get a new ABS module and every time I inquired about it the module has been on back order. I was told by multiple mechanics that this is a common issue with FCA vehicles and the ABS modules are always on back order and very difficult to get. This is a very serious concern if I can’t buy a part that has to due with the braking system. The truck is available for inspection upon request

- #11635192January 10, 2025STRUCTURE, LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH, he heard the sound of the tailgate opening independently. When the contact stopped the vehicle, he observed that the tailgate was open and he was able to raise and secure the tailgate. The contact stated that later he was starting the vehicle and saw that the tailgate was again open, however, he was not able to secure the tailgate. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The contact called a local dealer and was informed that he would need to bring the vehicle in for a diagnostic check. The contact asked if there was an open recall. The contact was advised by the dealer that NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V486000 (Structure, Latches/Locks/Linkages) had been completed on the vehicle by a previous owner and he was no longer covered by the recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

While traveling at low speeds, power steering fails. Dash indicates a warning message “Power steering service unavailable”. There is a recall for this exact issue, same year and model, but my VIN is not included. Diagnostic at dealership shows issue is same as recalled issue but is not able to repair under recall due to VIN. Dealership states cost to repair is $3400.

- #11635328January 10, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On Thursday [XXX] I was driving my new 1500 Big horn ram truck. I only had it for 6 days at that point. I started noticing a noise coming from inside the dashboard and the check engine light came on. I kept driving as usual because i figured the light would go off. All of a sudden a big metal ring the size of my palm fell on my shoe and all the warning lights came on the dash ( the brake failure light, adaptive cruise control unavailable light, parking sensor failure light, check engine light, traction control malfunction light, brake system light, abs failure light). When i tried to brake, the brakes went all the way down and felt very spongy. I had to pump the brakes just so it would stop. So I pulled over into a parking spot turned off the truck and started it back up. The truck started up, but all the lights were still on. I tried to shift into drive but it wouldn't go in gear. I think is because the brake weren't going far enough to push whatever sensor allows the shifter to shift. I tried pumping the brakes and shifting and it worked. So i drove the truck home very carefully and parked it in my driveway. The next morning I called my sales man and left him a msg. He called me later that evening and asked me to bring it in on Monday morning. I did not use the truck during the weekend because it felt very unsafe to drive. On Monday morning i drove it to the dealership and left it there. They did give me a loaner vehicle. 2 days later I got a call from Dave the service manager and he let me know that the ring that fell on my foot holds a brake pedal in place and that they were going to replace the entire brake pedal assembly, the abs module, the brake booster and some ecm (i didn't understand which one). This truck has been unusable now for 7 days and I've only owned it for 13 days. It's been in the shop for 5 days now. - #11635051January 9, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SEATS, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
The issues started with the sunroof not closing. And the uconnect touch screen inoperable ( it went black and no options available ) It seemed to be a fluke and resolved itself. But within a few weeks the icons for the driver and passenger seat heaters were no longer on the screen. Now that the season has changed and temps have dropped, the drivers side heater will automatically come on when the truck is started and it’s below a certain degree outside. It gets crazy hot and will only shut off when the truck is turned off. This was followed by the icons for the radio options resorting themselves and the one for USB disappearing as well. The usb connection still works, but it has to automatically switch over when plugged in, it cannot be manually selected. Lastly the ParkAssist seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it will function as intended. Other times when I start the truck it flashes a warning that the park assist is unavailable and the lights on the switches are on showing it’s been disengaged. When pushed they will flash and then turn solid again. Other times it will happen while I’m driving. There will be a ding and the unavailable warning will flash on the screen. When the icons first disappeared I called mopar/uconnect customer service. They tried to walk me through some diagnostics but none of it worked. They suggested maybe getting a software update. But couldn’t tell me if that would fix it or not. When I asked if it didn’t they just said I’d have to replace the whole uconnect system.

Water leaked into their vehicle into my Ram 1500 cabin. Water leaks from the third brake light above the rear window into the cabin. It caused the Radiofrequency hub to short circuit, and my vehicle wouldn't turn on; it killed my battery, and when I replaced my battery, it automatically drained. Also an issue in the cab is the following: bad odors, smells, and mildew. I have children and not knowing that there is mildew growing in my vehicle is a major health concern.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Service Trailer System Brakes" and "4WD Disabled" messages were displayed. Additionally, the cruise control was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the front hub sensor, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who determined that the ABS control module needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V653000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

I have my traction control light show up on the dash. Took my truck to a mechanic thinking it might be my ABS Sensors. The code came up showing I am in need of the ABS Control Module. This seems to have been recalled on many of the Ram trucks as recent as September 2024. Also doing a lot of research, this seems to have been an ongoing problem for Ram trucks 2014-2016. The dealerships currently do not have the replacement part # 68228991AD which will replace the original 68228991AA, AB, and AC. It is apparently in engineering review. With the snow my location just had, I can tell you I have lost traction on the road. I have also lost traction and had hard braking on dry pavement within the past few weeks which is why I took the truck to the mechanic and learned of the ABS Control Module needing replaced. This should be recalled on all of the Ram trucks not just the 2019, 2021-2024.
