Incident 1 or 2. I am filing two separate formal complaints regarding two incidents in which my 2022 Ram 1500 eTorque unexpectedly shut down while driving, posing serious safety risks and raising concerns about an unresolved vehicle defect. First Incident: September 25–November 4, 2025-During rush-hour traffic on a major Idaho highway, my truck suddenly shut down while I was traveling in the far-left lane. I had to maneuver onto the left shoulder to avoid being struck by another vehicle. After waiting approximately 30 minutes for a tow truck, I was without my vehicle for nearly six weeks while the service center assessed the problem and awaited parts. Repairs included replacing the 12-volt battery at my expense and the 48-volt battery under warranty. Repeated, unexplained failures present an unacceptable safety risk to me, my family, and other motorists. I continue to drive with the concern that my truck could shut down in traffic or in a remote location, potentially resulting in serious injury or loss of life. The approaching expiration of the 48-volt battery warranty further compounds my concerns, as I could face significant repair costs for a problem that remains unresolved. I respectfully urge NHTSA to investigate these incidents and determine whether they indicate a broader safety defect requiring corrective action. I believe repeated failures and inability to identify the cause warrants serious regulatory attention before another event occurs.

Incident 2 of 2: I am filing two separate formal complaints regarding two incidents in which my 2022 Ram 1500 eTorque unexpectedly shut down while driving, posing serious safety risks and raising concerns about an unresolved vehicle defect. Second Incident: May 30–June 23, 2026-While traveling on a mountain road, my truck again shut down unexpectedly. Without cell service, I was unable to call for assistance. After approximately 15 minutes, I restarted the truck and drove home. The following day, the truck would not start, requiring a tow to another Ram service facility. Although the dealership again focused on the 48-volt battery, it could not confirm the cause of either shutdown. I was told a failed fuse prevented the truck from starting, but no underlying cause was identified.

The engine oil pan severely corroded and over 30% of the 18 gauge steel scaled away. For an 18-gauge steel oil pan (nominal thickness of 0.0478 inches or 1.2 mm), the threshold where rust becomes hazardous is remarkably thin—literally and figuratively. Because an oil pan holds hot, chemically active fluid and is subjected to constant vibration and thermal cycling, the margin for corrosion safety is very small: 1. The Pinhole and Leak Threshold (25% to 30% Loss) * The Limit: If deep rust pitting or scaling eats away more than 0.012 to 0.015 inches (roughly 25% to 30% of the wall thickness), the metal is no longer structurally sound enough to contain the oil under thermal expansion and vibration. * The Hazard: At this stage, microscopic or sudden pinhole leaks will form. Even a slow weep can drain enough oil over time to starve the engine, or worse, spray atomized oil onto a hot exhaust pipe, creating a severe fire hazard.

Transmission issues are a known problem in the 2021 Ram 1500 and have been for a while, with no recalls. Slipping of gear. Delay or jerking into reverse. Putting it in reverse and it telling me to put it into park or it auto-correcting itself into park. While driving twice and going from complete stop after the auto correcting went to pull off & the vehicle did not go into gear the RPM was raised and the truck moved forward but would not go into gear. The smell of transmission fluid and possible coolant seem to be in truck through vent. The Malfunction Indicator light came on. Had a Shop check code said it showed Valve Body. All these are known issues with the transmission and should be recalled as this is very dangerous for driving as it could stop in road, loose power going up hill on interstate and if there are leaks it could cause a fire. There should have been recalls and investigations. Manufacture knows these issues are and have been happening but does not want to spend the money to fix problems. Ignores and hopes warranty will be gone before it happens so it will be on the owner. That is what they did with me.

I have a 2022 RAM 1500 Longhorn Limited VIN [XXX]. It had a real problem a couple of years ago with stalling to a stop and die when making slow left hand turns. Went to the dealer twice. They claimed it was nothing but after the second visit, it no longer did it anymore. It’s done it twice in the past couple of months. This evening it did it at a three way stop sign with no turn. When it shuts off it’s in drive of course and it auto shifts to park and sets the emergency brake automatically. Then I can start the engine again but I have the press the emergency brake switch button to release it. Then the low voltage light appears on the instrument cluster and the voltage gauge stays only about a quarter of the way up above zero on the negative side. To remedy this I have to shut off the engine and sometimes open the door for a while, close it and then start the engine and all is well again. I know RAM plays dumb when I describe this to them. 2025 Ram Limited. Front ParkSense camera (the camera that automatically activates when Front ParkSense detects an object) shuts off after the vehicle is turned off and left overnight. Every morning the system must be manually re-enabled in Uconnect settings before the front camera will activate again during parking maneuvers. This occurs consistently after the truck sits overnight. The issue does not stay enabled across ignition cycles when the vehicle is left parked for several hours. I took the vehicle to the dealer; they found no issue. I also contacted Ram customer service, who stated there is no known issue with this condition. No crash, injury, or property damage has occurred, but the daily loss of the front camera view reduces the effectiveness of the ParkSense system during low-speed parking and could contribute to a collision in tight spaces.

I am filing this complaint to formally document a potential safety concern involving the transmission in my Dodge Ram 1500. The transmission has been slipping while driving, and I am concerned that this malfunction could lead to an unexpected loss of drive power or other transmission failure while the vehicle is in operation, potentially creating a serious safety hazard for me, my passengers, and other motorists. The vehicle is currently at a Chrysler Dodge dealership in East Brunswick, New Jersey, for diagnosis and evaluation of the transmission problem. The underlying cause has not yet been confirmed, and the dealership's diagnostic findings are pending. The vehicle and its transmission are available for inspection. I have reported the transmission issue to Chrysler Customer Care and opened a case. I am also submitting this complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) so that my reported transmission problem and related safety concerns are formally documented. I am aware of NHTSA Recall 24V-413, which concerns certain 2023 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 vehicles and identifies a potential defect that may result in a loss of drive power or the inability to place the vehicle in Park. I do not know whether my vehicle is covered by this recall or whether the transmission slipping I am experiencing is related to the defect described in the recall. I am requesting that NHTSA document and review this complaint to determine whether the reported transmission malfunction may represent a safety defect and whether further investigation is warranted. I am particularly concerned about the possibility of an unexpected transmission failure while driving. This complaint is being submitted while the vehicle is at the dealership for evaluation, before the cause of the problem has been established. I want to ensure that the transmission issue and my safety concerns are formally on record with NHTSA. The cause of the inspection results are currently unknown.

I am filing this safety complaint regarding a defective ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) on my 2023 Ram 1500 Classic TRADESMAN CREW CAB 4x4 5.7L Hemi with approximately 87,000 miles. DEFECT DESCRIPTION: The ABS HCU periodically fails, resulting in complete loss of anti-lock braking, traction control, electronic stability control, 4WD and cruise control. This is an identical failure mode to the defect addressed under NHTSA Recall 24V-896, which covered 2017-2018 Ram 2500-5500 trucks. My 2023 Ram 1500 Classic uses the same or substantially similar HCU component and is experiencing the identical failure. SAFETY RISK: The loss of ABS, ESC, 4WD and traction control significantly increases the risk of a crash, particularly in adverse weather conditions. This is not a minor inconvenience — it is a serious safety hazard that FCA/Stellantis has already acknowledged in heavier-duty Ram platforms. MANUFACTURER KNOWLEDGE: FCA was aware of this defect as early as 2016 based on warranty claims and customer complaints. Despite issuing Recall 24V-896 for heavier Ram trucks with the same HCU failure, FCA has failed to extend recall coverage to the 2017-2024 Ram 1500 DS models, leaving thousands of owners without remedy. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Repair estimates range from $1,200 to $2,000. The part remains on backorder or engineering hold, making timely repair impossible through normal channels. REQUESTED ACTION: I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1. Open a formal investigation into the 2023 Ram 1500 Classic ABS HCU failures for thousands of trucks, 2. Compel FCA/Stellantis to expand Recall 24V-896 or issue a new recall to include the 2017-2024 Ram 1500 DS models. 3. Require FCA to reimburse owners who have already paid for this repair out of pocket

When driving at slow speed with the auto stop/start turned off the engine will shut off and have to reset to park before it can restart. This doesn’t happen often and the dealership says it can’t duplicate it and there is no malfunction code in the data storage. My fear is this could happen in traffic and cause an accident.

- #11773599October 26, 2026FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The failed component is the high-pressure fuel pump, which the dealer confirmed failed and contaminated the fuel system. I do not know whether the failed pump will be available for inspection, since the dealer is replacing it. The engine stalled while I was driving on [road type, e.g., a highway] with my family [in the vehicle / traveling with me] and would not restart, which put us at risk of losing power in traffic. The dealer confirmed the failure and opened the recall repair. To my knowledge, the manufacturer has not inspected the truck. The red throttle warning light came on and the truck stored a P016F fuel pressure code at the time of the failure. A MAP sensor code had appeared earlier and cleared, but I'm not aware of other warning signs before the failure.

- #11773612October 26, 2026VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I am reporting a serious safety concern involving our 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel. The vehicle has experienced repeated incidents of unintended acceleration, where it accelerates without the driver pressing the accelerator pedal. This problem has occurred on multiple occasions and presents a significant risk to the driver, passengers, and other motorists. The vehicle previously displayed diagnostic trouble code P2138, which relates to the accelerator pedal position sensor circuits. We are concerned that this may indicate a malfunction involving the electronic throttle control or accelerator pedal system, although the exact cause has not been confirmed. The issue has now occurred again, raising serious concerns about the vehicle’s safety and the potential for an accident. We believe this dangerous and recurring condition warrants investigation by NHTSA. We are requesting that this complaint be documented and investigated to determine whether a safety-related defect exists.
