- #11582325April 11, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
The contact owns a 2023 BMW X1. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond, swerved, and came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. The traction control, ABS, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the messages "Warning" and "Computer Error Fault" were displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into gear while attempting to drive. A Police officer blocked the vehicle until the vehicle was towed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the dealer determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brakes); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact had not yet received the recall notification. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was temporarily repaired and test-driven and that the vehicle was safe to drive. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

I purchased the car used in September 2023. About three months ago got the following warning "Transmission : Secure Vehicle with Parking Brake when Stationary. Consult Service Center." The issue seems to be a Shiftlock solenoid selector Lever coil spring that was compromised. No accidents. This is triggering a warning every time upon tuyrning the vehicle on.

The auto start/stop on this car is super slow and will turn off the engine before the car comes to a complete stop. It causes confusion at intersections because of the slow getaway and has nearly caused several collisions. For instance, last week I was turning left at an intersection. The left turn was a yield, so i am turning across oncoming traffic. This is the usual intersection in my city. I did not come to a complete stop and started to turn left. I left plenty of space to the oncoming traffic. To my surprise, the engine had turned off and I sat in the intersection pressing the gas pedal to no power. I essentially coasted most of the way through the intersection before the power came back. By that point, I was pushing the gas so hard that when the engine started, I nearly lost control because of the sudden jolt of acceleration while turning. This has happened multiple times and puts drivers of the X1 and others at risk. I've owned and driven hundreds of cars with auto start/stop and this has to be the worst by far. I cannot understand why the engine will turn off before the car comes to a stop. This is more typical of a mild-hybrid drivetrain, except this car does not have an electric engine. It happens with no consistency, so there's no way to adapt driving style. There is only one way to disable the start/stop, and it's deep within the menus (several button clicks on a touch screen-only display), and then it only disables it for the current trip. The dealer has mentioned it's not great but has no way to fix as it's a software problem. Zero warning lamps.

- #11577034March 12, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Check Engine light checked at dealership revealed Fuel in the NVLD System! They had to replace the NVLD, Charcoal canister, and the Tank vent valve. They accused me of overfilling my fuel tank! I am 100% certain that I NEVER overfill fuel whatsoever. I am afraid this may cause other drivers to ignore the problem resulting in vehicle fires! Please investigate further or ask for repair frequency of this problem from BMW. I owned a BMW for almost 20 years and never experienced this problem! Thanks

Car does not idle when first starts. Shifting into reverse causes car to nearly stall. To avoid this, I have to touch the accelerator with extra pressure which causes the car to jerk uncontrollably backwards. This is a known fault on X1 BMW’s. BMW requires $300-500 to complete a software update with no guarantee this will correct the problem. The software update was completed once before in 2019 and the problem persists. They are asking for another payment for another update with no guarantee.

Upon straight line driving, vehicle has abruptly cut to the left into the opposing driving lane. Had another vehicle been approaching, could have resulted in a collision. It has occurred randomly on three different occasions over two month period. Have been trying to get with the dealer for a week. They don't seem to consider it urgent. So far, there have been no incidents requiring police or visible signs of damage. Abrupt maneuver was preceded by a mechanical "ping" sound followed by a sensation the car was being struck from behind. The incident has made me concerned to drive the car as well as reluctant to keep it even if dealer finds something he can fix.

ALERT STATING: SECURE VEHICLE AGAINST ROLLING. This is happening when I turn on the car and when I am trying to turn off the car. Nothing happening with the car at the moment but does prevent me from turning off the car at times. It raises a concern because I don't want the car rolling into another car, building or even a person. The side mirror on the driver's side also keeps readjusting on its own which has caused issues while driving by shifting from my blindside.

Error message stating “secure vehicle from rolling”. This is a common issue with the X1. I’ve found countless complaints of the issue on BMW forums. Dealers are quoting $3000-$3500 for the repairs due to the time it takes to repair. BMW has in some cases acknowledged the issue and provided repair as a goodwill gesture but has yet to issue a recall for this known issue.

Secure vehicle against rolling error displayed despite the fact the car is securely in Park. Issue is a broke $1 spring inside the gearshifter that requires $4000 to fix at dealership. This is a poor quality issue driving a cash cow at the dealership ls with many people complaining online about this issue. It should be a recall

Warning states "secure vehicle from rolling" even though it is in park. The car operates without problems. It is out of warranty with 90000 miles. I understand this is a common problem with this model. Thank you

The contact owns a 2014 BMW X1. The contact that while at a stop light and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle stalled. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and was able to continue driving. The contact also stated that the vehicle needed to be restarted with the brake pedal depressed to determine if the vehicle was in drive. The contact stated that the vehicle only reversed after restarting the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine and the bright yellow gear with an exclamation mark which meant that the power train was going into LIMP Mode warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer retrieved an unstated fault code related to the battery and replaced the stick shift harness; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

- #11570342February 6, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
"SECURE VEHICLE WITH PARKING BREAK" is the error msg. This is a VERY common problem with the F48 F49 2017 BMW X1. The replacement part cost around $10. It is a very small spring deep in the center console. Dealer estimates to fix it are $2500-$3500 due to the labor cost. The is a video which explains the issue and how to replace it yourself if you are able. Some post have indicated that BMWNA will pay but there is no official recall and I am not sure if it is standard practice for the Dealer to replace the problem. Please note that this is NOT the result of an accident. The car is a 2016 BMW X1 model which we have purchased in July 2020 as a BMW certified vehicle from a BMW dealer. Starting in December 2023 the car dashboard shows a warning light saying Secure Vehicle from Rolling. I have read that is it due to a broken pin in the transmission and it seems a common problem in 2016-17 BMWs X1 . BMW should have issued a recall . Again, there was NO accident.
