On 10/25/26 the vehicle suddenly lost power and became immobile as I started to drive. Then the parking brake could not be released, doors and windows were stuck in the open position, the trunk was stuck locked. The key fob was functional but the vehicle displayed more error messages when I tried to use the fob as directed by BMW Roadside Assistance. My safety was put at risk because the car failed suddenly as I was exiting a parking lot and about to enter the freeway and would have been dangerous to lose complete power on the freeway. The vehicle was towed to the BMW dealership. On 10/27/26 the BMW dealer service center inspected the vehicle confirmed the battery was defective and was a cause or result of the car’s malfunction, the dealer confirmed an orange dashboard warning light for an error in engine management. The dealer then claimed the dashboard warning light was somehow unrelated and claimed the battery cannot be covered by dealer warranty. Prior to the vehicle losing power there were other symptoms of possible electrical problems such as the dome/reading lights spontaneously and repeatedly turning on while I was driving, the display gave messages that my phone was charging in the tray, however the phone would fail to charge, and the headlights/brake lights would sometimes come on spontaneously. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms. prior the vehicle losing power. The power failure first presented as a message to protect against vehicle roll aways and to lock the parking brake. Then a message instructed in how to unlock the parking brake. About 3 additional error messages then displayed on the dashboard, over and over in succession. All my attempts to follow the instructions in the messages failed to start the car.

On XXX we finalized the sale through a online purchase. XXX The car was shipped & received to our residential address from [XXX] to [XXX] XXX. The front drivers side tire exploded on the highway in normal road conditions at about 50-55MPH… we had it towed to Mar Mac tire. Our insurance(Geico) covered the damage(comprehensive) but would not cover the tires b/c they were pre existing conditions. Mar Mac tire confirmed all 4 tires were dry rotted and bald. This was the cause of the “catastrophic tire failure” XXX, we got the vehicle back from a custom body shop. XXX, my wife took the vehicle to Midas for trembling while driving. They informed her that the rotors, pads, struts & sway bars were destroyed bad and needed replaced. We paid for it all and left the same day. But they told us to bring it back XXX when other parts will arrive but then told us they wouldn’t be there till the XXX. XXX, we bring the vehicle back to finish the work, but was informed a transfer case was also needed ASAP. But we should contact and go through our warranty(NPV). XXX. The car overheated and we had it towed to Midas since they were supposed to be giving a estimate to our warranty company for the transfer case. We have not gotten the vehicle back since XXX and its still at Midas currently b/c our warranty is taken their sweet time. And now, there is also a thermostat issue, and possible engine & radiator issue. We have had this vehicle 81 days and counting(starting XXX) and only physically possessed it for 22 days as of now. It is still currently at the shop(Midas) waiting to see if the warranty will cover the pre existing mechanical issues. I have requested from the dealership, Motor Mania 46(American Sales LLC) and our bank(Global lending services) on multiple occasions, either pay it off in full, buy it back or void the sale and they said no. While releasing the manual telescope lever on my 2019 BMW X1 (under 75k miles) to adjust the steering wheel, the steering column completely bypassed its factory structural travel stop and jammed rock-solid in the farthest extended position and will not budge. The steering wheel is now physically wedged against my torso, making it impossible to maintain the federally recommended 10-to-12-inch safety clearance from the driver's airbag. Independent mechanics have refused to touch the vehicle due to the liability and safety risks of breaking the collapsible column or for fear of accidentally deploying the airbag. This is a manufacturing and design defect that directly compromises the vehicle's primary safety systems and risks the airbag deploying dangerously close to the occupant.

On [XXX] at approximately [XXX], I was driving my 2019 BMW X1 northbound on the [XXX] in Manhattan at a steady highway speed when the powered rear liftgate unexpectedly opened approximately halfway without any intentional activation. The key fob was stationary in the center cupholder. I did not activate any liftgate controls. I became aware of the opening after hearing wind noise and another motorist honking. A folding cart and a child’s travel car seat fell from the cargo area onto the highway. I subsequently returned and recovered both items near the concrete median. The cart sustained substantial damage. I did not witness a collision and am unaware of any third-party injury or property damage. I reported the incident to BMW North America, which advised that the matter was being escalated. The cause of the malfunction has not yet been determined. I am concerned that the powered liftgate was able to open while the vehicle was traveling at highway speed, creating a serious roadway hazard. As with other complaints, the dual clutch transmission/powertrain is faulty. The BMW dealership and BMW North America are unwilling to acknowledge the safety issue, issue a recall, or buy back. Safety issues are: •Delayed/hesitant response —a lag of up to several seconds between pressing the accelerator and the car actually moving, especially at low speed or when pulling out from a stop. •Jerky, clunky low-speed behavior — rough engagement in stop-and-go traffic or when transitioning between Park/Drive/Reverse. •Rollaway risk — Because the DCT uses electrohydraulic clutch actuation instead of a torque converter, some drivers say the car can roll backward (e.g., on an incline) before the clutch engages, rather than holding position like a traditional automatic. I've not noticed warning lights related to the problem, although the vehicle has a history of screens and monitor going black. Numerous close calls related to hitting other vehicles/pedestrians related to these unpredictable responses from the vehicle putting others at risk. 'Software updates' have reportedly been performed remotely and at the dealership, but the issue remains. As such, the vehicle has been at the purchasing dealership most recently for more than 4 months, with no meaningful response, and no prognosis.

- #11767175September 26, 2026ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I own a 2014 BMW X1 equipped with the N20 engine. The vehicle has been producing smoke from the exhaust/tailpipe after it has been sitting, and the vehicle appears to be burning engine oil very quickly. I am concerned that the malfunction involves the turbocharger engine-oil supply/feed system. BMW has previously documented a similar condition involving N20/N26 engines in Service Information Bulletin SI B11 16 15, which includes the E84 BMW X1 and addresses smoke from the exhaust associated with engine oil leaking through the turbocharger system. I am concerned about the safety risk because the vehicle is burning oil and producing visible exhaust smoke. I am concerned that continued oil loss could result in insufficient engine lubrication, engine or turbocharger damage, or a failure while the vehicle is being driven. The exhaust smoke itself can also impair visibility for vehicles behind me when it occurs. It has been diagnosed by a third party car shop European Car Motors in [XXX]. No warning lights turned on in the car to notify me of any sort of issue. am reporting this because BMW has documented a similar N20/N26 turbocharger oil-feed-line condition affecting the E84 X1, but my 2014 X1 does not appear to be included in the related oil-feed-line warranty extension. I am concerned that other 2014 BMW X1 owners may experience the same condition. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2021 BMW X1. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 10 MPH, she was involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The driver was transported to the hospital for level two severe trauma to the neck, head, and chest with pain. The contact stated that there was a possibility that the failure was caused by the dealer. There was an air bag system sensor malfunction at the time of the purchase. The dealer was called and provided the documentation for previous work performed, but there was none about the air bag. The contact believed that the vehicle was deemed a total loss. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

Incident occurred on 9-15-26 at approx. 1:16 PM (PST) and 6205 miles. Vehicle uncontrollably rolled/moved opposite to the selected drive gear while waiting for the clutch to engage. Had stopped on a flat paved road to allow a pedestrian to cross by, but when I released the brake pedal, the vehicle unexpectedly moved backwards immediately - despite being in drive gear. Had to slam on brakes to stop this. Fortunately, no vehicle was behind me otherwise could have collided. No warning messages, etc. prior to this incident.

I am reporting a recurring safety warning on my 2017 BMW X1 xDrive28i. The vehicle repeatedly displays the message “Secure vehicle against rolling” on the dashboard even though the gear selector indicates that the vehicle is in Park. A diagnostic scan with BlueDriver also recorded BMW fault code 420106 – “Shift Lock Solenoid: Unlock stuck.” The warning has returned multiple times and appears to indicate a problem with the vehicle’s Park/shift-lock or parking-lock recognition system. Because this warning concerns the possibility of the vehicle rolling while parked, I consider it a potential safety issue. Until the problem is diagnosed and repaired, I have been using the electronic parking brake every time I park as an additional precaution. The vehicle otherwise recognizes the Park position and has remained drivable, but the warning continues to reappear. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether this issue is occurring in other BMW X1 vehicles and whether it may involve a defect in the gear-selector, shift-lock, parking-lock, or related sensing system. Purchased a 2025 BMW X1 used in June of 2025; car's steering has had slight, persistent "thump" during low speed return to center since purchase. Dealership has made multiple repair attempts with tech acknowledging it didn't seem right. None of the repairs have resulted in the issue being resolved. Latest return to dealership in late June resulted in inquiry with the local field tech, who simply compared my vehicle with another of the same model and claimed that it was the same on the new vehicle. I reached out to BMW of North America and they claimed there was nothing further they could do on their end after opening a case with them in late May. I would at least like an explanation as to why my vehicle has this issue and why it's characteristic of the vehicle, since other people I know with earlier model years of the same vehicle don't have the same problem. I have never driven any other BMW or any other vehicle for that matter that has a normal "thumping" in the steering. As far as I'm concerned, this is not normal behavior especially for a newer vehicle and could be a sign of steering component failure down the line

I'm not sure If I need to report BMW for declining to repair a recall known as 24V-608. I went to my local BMW dealership Valley Auto World BMW In Fayetteville, NC. The first time we went they said they put a cover over the wiring connector for oil or water dripping from the PCV hose. When we went their were no engine codes and a week after they perform the inspection I got engine codes regarding the water pump codes are U0079 - U019F. I got this when It was at night. The following morning I went out and unplugged the connector and corrosion was on the connector. I proceed to clean the connector pins with isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. I also added Dielectric grease to the inside of the water pump connector before I found out that there was corrosion on the connector pins. The codes did not go away. The following morning the pump stopped working so I removed It and corrosion was on the pins for the water pump. I took It to the dealership and the said neither corporate or the dealership would not repair the vehicle because they said they got photos before they put the connector protector on and I said I got photos after they put It on. They are trying to pull you removed It so It was your fault. Like I have the right to repair my own vehicle and you still want to make It seem like I'm the one who put the corrosion there just to get a free pump. I stood In the rain trying to repair the vehicle on the lot but they said we had to get off the property and called the cops. The cops let us continue adding a replacement pump to the car and after I got It on there the engine lights went out.

My Vehicle started having grinding front brakes at about 12,000 miles. Front brake rotors have already grooves developing. I took it to Manhasset BMW service, my brakes were not checked properly, wheels not even removed to see if any calipers issue causing the grinding sounder pads wearing out prematurely. This is not normal wearing issue, it's a serious problem with brakes. Recently, BMW recalled for integrated brakes problem but BMW rep. told me that my vehicle has no recall on record. It's a 2025 BMW X1 AWD with 14,600 miles as of today. Brakes don't show grooves and hot spots from nothing, something is going on with my brakes and BMW refusing to check and service.

On May 20, 2026 We were in Mt Dora, FL We were approaching a red light. Cars were stopped in front of us and cars were beside me and behind me. As I slowed down the car just stalled out. It completely turned off while I was in drive. I immediately tried to start it. Then I put my foot on the brake and put it in park and turned on my hazard lights. I waited about 3 minutes and started it up. It was so scary because we could have been hit from behind.
