- #11606349August 4, 2024ENGINE, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
The auto start software will turn the engine off when the car is still rolling. I can be rolling 2-4 MPH and the engine will just turn off. There’s a huge delay after the engine restarts for power to continue. There is no way to permanently turn off this feature. If you are making a left turn across traffic you can be in a situation where the car will allow you to roll into oncoming traffic with the engine off. And as you press the gas nothing happens. It happens randomly so there’s no way to “learn” how the car behaves and anticipate it. In addition when the engine power does resume, it jolts forward and is sudden. The dealer has said there is nothing they can do as it’s BMW USA software. There’s no warning and no way to know that the engine is off. The software will only tell you when the car is at a full stop. Even then, the only indication is the small “ready” words. This is very easily reproducible by driving through several stop signs in personal mode.

There is an issue with the X1 series of BMWs where the system shuts down after a cold start. This car displays alerts on the dashboard, and BMW service has confirmed that there are two firmware updates available to fix the issues. However, instead of providing the updates at no charge, they are asking for almost $1,000 for the firmware update. Forum discussions indicate that this issue causes the engine to stop after a cold start, which is extremely challenging, especially when leaving a garage into oncoming traffic, as the car just shuts off. There should be a recall and free firmware updates for these vehicles. FC 151001 IGNITION TIMING DURING COLD START

- #11604772July 26, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING
Traveling about 35mph with no cars around, the brakes applied, no throttle response, and little steering. Warning lights illuminated and couldn't move car until turned off ignition and restarted. Dealer showed no codes and shows no record of it occurring. This symptom mirrors a recall on last years model, but not yet on 2024's. BMW says there's nothing more they can do but we are afraid to drive car because it's a guaranteed accident waiting to happen.

The contact owns a 2023 BMW X1. The contact stated that while his son was driving 40 MPH, the vehicle was jerking. The power brakes and stability control were inoperable. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brakes). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the codes needed to be cleared. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the local dealer, who cleared the codes again. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was not related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brakes). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

Receiving message to secure vehicle against rolling when parking. It seems like the solution involves a $10 spring but costs $2000+ to replace. My vehicle has been serviced at the dealership consistently and has 50,530 miles on it so it has had an easy life and this seems not to be. Normal wear and tear issue.

- #11603729July 22, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The recall number for the incident is 24V-104. The car was recalled in February and the recall repair was completed May 2, 2024. The car is currently at BMW and is available for inspection.BMW has confirmed that the parts they replaced in May malfunctioned. They claim that some of the recall parts had a mechanical problem and that the recent repair, July, was done with parts that had been inspected. On July 22, 2024, I was backing up and when I braked the car jolted as if I hit something and the computer screen showed ABS and parking brake malfunction. When I engaged the brakes they were hesitant and took a long time to stop the car. Fortunately, I was in a parking lot with no cars around so there was ample space for the car to come to a stop. Had I been on the highway or main road, I would have been in an accident as I would not have had enough distance to stop.

Every time I start or stop my vehicle I get a notification that shows Transmission: Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center. And my console has a hazard warning that shows: Secure vehicle against rolling. This happens every time, even if the car is parked on a completely flat surface in no danger whatsoever of rolling. I've read SEVERAL X1 owners get this message and all state this needs to be a RECALL. They take their vehicles in for service and are told it's between $2500 and $3000 due to a tiny spring that breaks and the selector no longer communicates with the car in the parking position, and because of this there is an error message in dashboard in which warns you to make sure the vehicle is secure

Secure vehicle against rolling light on was looked at by 2 independent mechanics and bmw of Wilmington saying pin breaks in shifter assembly. It’s seems to be a common issue that bmw needs to recall and fix. The 5.00-10.00 pin should not cost consumers 3000.00 to fix. The entire assembly does not need replaced. The pin needs recalled for safety purposes

The vehicle is equipped with a dual clutch transmission and has the EPA mandated auto-start feature. When you stop the vehicle and the engine shuts off and then remove your foot from the brake to go forward, the engine hesitates to restart and then starts, revs, dumps the clutch and propels you forward at a dangerous rate. My wife was trying to pull into the garage and stopped a little short. When she tried to move forward about a foot, the car started and lurched forward hitting the house. There is no way to disable the auto start feature and there are no buttons in the car. This is going to get someone killed when they are trying to make a left turn across traffic and first the car doesn't restart and then it starts and flies into traffic. I complained to BMW and they say this is the way the government mandates the car to be.

The BMW 2024 X1 comes with the new iDrive9 that has eliminated most of the physical controls. Now there is a large touch screen that controls the radio, HVAC, Apple Car Play, cruise control, head lights, heated seats, etc. The driver has to keep looking at the screen to find the touch buttons to control all the operation functions of the car. Texting while driving is dangerous; well with the iDrive9, one is texting on steroids!!! This system is nothing short of dangerous. It is so bad, I got rid of the car after owning it for 7 months. I can't believe the NHTSA would allow such a system on a vehicle.

Keep getting the following warning "Transmission - secure vehicle with parking brake". It seems this is a known issue relating to a simple spring in the gear shifter that causes the computer to not recognize that the vehicle is in park. It's not only a very expensive repair for such a simple part failure, but also a safety concern in not knowing if the vehicle is secure to park.

When gear selector is put in park warning comes on SECURE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. Not knowing if this is a false warning or not car could roll if emergency brake is not applied. Numerous complaints to BMW about this condition happening on many BMW X1 models on BMW forum and complaints to BMW also to NHTSA. By myself. No prior warnings.
