I am a new owner of a BMW X1. The design of the 2024 vehicle is problematic. I also own a 2022 BMW X3, that car is fine. This X1 has an infotainment system much like a Tesla and it creates a distracted driving situation. For example to deactivate that feature, which I do 100% of the time, that causes the stopped car to shut off takes one button press in the X3, in the X1 it takes 3. I have to press a button, find the deactivate on the screen then select the media button to go back to the radio. The whole time I am looking away or I have a passenger do it. To switch from say satellite to FM is similar but takes 5 on screen button presses. In the X3 I have buttons pre-programmed, no looking away. I cannot believe that this car was allowed to be built. I emailed BMW over a week ago and they did not reply. I am telling you because they can do better. This is just 2 examples there are other scenarios that force action to the screen in the car.

Vehicle is showing a “secure vehicle against rolling” warning. Upon doing research this is a common problem with the BMW X1, a default spring in the gearbox, which breaks at around 20000-60000 miles. The repair is very expensive $1500-$2000 at a dealer for a $3.00 part. It should be a recall as it is common breakage.

While driving, an engine malfunction message appeared on the X1's panel display. The warning message was to proceed, under "reduced power", to a dealer as soon as possible to initiate repairs before engine damage could occur. Under these emergency conditions all panel functions, such as GPS, were blocked. I believe this failure, occurring under normal operating conditions, puts passengers at risk. At the dealer engine error codes identified the N55 engine's internal failure to be of the Valvetronic system. The 2015 X1 was out of warranty even though its mileage was 46,600 which, if still under the 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty, would have qualified for a warranty repair.

2017 BMW X1 has a transmission warning to use parking brake because of potential hazard of car rolling away while in park. I investigated this issue and there are hundreds of thousands of people who are receiving this warning as well. This is a major safety issue for the car, the risk of it rolling or not understanding that the car is properly in park. This needs to be covered as a recall for this make and model and BMW should cover this.

- #11611674August 29, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
I had a series of concerning incidents with my car. The trunk door was getting stuck halfway, but I was able to close it after turning on the engine. I also encountered a malfunction error on the backup camera, a Drive Train warning sign, and the car alarm going off by itself. The most alarming issue was when the car started smoking and then caught fire underneath the hood near the driver's side windshield. Thankfully, my father and I were able to put out the flames with a water hose before calling 911 to report the incident to the fire department. The car is considered a total per Geico Insurance.

We had a bad coolant leak starting at 96,670 miles. We took our vehicle into our local repair shop, they fixed the coolant reservoir but the leak still persisted. We were told we would need a whole new water pump and housing unit however they couldn’t fix it due to not having sufficient resources. After the leak started our vehicle has started acting up electronically (examples: seatbelt warning going off without anyone in the seat, overhead lights turning on while driving, ect)

Received an error message: Transmission. Use parking break to prevent rolling. Dealership said it was the internal gear shift. It didn’t recognize the vehicle was in park. It was an expensive repair because they had to remove the console to fix. Was told it was an issue with my model.

There needs to be a recall for water intrusion to the parking distance control system in at minimum the 2013 BMW X1. Our whole camera system and parking sensors went out, as soon as I searched the problem, there were numerous forums advising of the issue. When I opened up the area in the trunk, the entire area was filled with water. The parts within all need to be replaced. This should be covered by BMW since this is such a huge issue.

Recall has been ongoing since February. Received notice and letter that remedy was available and took the car to dealer. Remedy was implemented but it still shows as an open recall. Sees like the manufacturer has failed to remedy or is not able to.

My coolant light came on and my car now hesitates. I contacted BMW of Tulsa and they said they do not have a remedy for my recall. I am afraid to drive my car due to the risk of catching fire and other mechanical issues related to the recall.

Thankfully, I have not been involved in an accident to-date, but my 2023 BMW X1 has been the subject of a recall involving its braking system since February 2024, with no available remedy as of August 15, 2024. The lack of urgency by BMW to fix an issue involving the safety of its customers and vehicles' occupants is startling. This is unacceptable. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue and hold BMW accountable for remedying the issue now as it has gone beyond a reasonable amount of time to fix the issue. If a fix is not available, BMW should be made to buy back my vehicle.

experience issues starting up due to a failure of the starter motor. Repeated attempts at stating the vehicle can cause the motor to overheat due to an electrical overload, potentially catching combustible materials in the engine compartment and increasing the risk of fire.
