The transmission is a safety issue and is available for inspection. The six speed automatic has a 5th to 4th downshift that is regularly rough and can be jarring at times. A few weeks ago on my way home from work while driving 30 mph around a small bend the truck shifted from 4th to 2nd on its own and bucked so hard that it scared me and brought my hands off the steering wheel and made my back sore for the next day. This is a blind bend because of the shrubbery in the front yard at the bend and it is also at the beginning of a school zone. This could've been a worse situation if there would've been a car or school bus going in the opposite direction. This was certainly the worst one yet but there have been similar situations where the truck jarringly shifted from 4th to 3rd on its own. The problem has not been reproduced, confirmed or inspected as mentioned above. I have read multiple stories stating very similar or even the same occurrences on the forums. The lead frame in the transmission seems to be the leading cause for this issue. Others have been to the dealer, had the computer reflashed and were told it just needs to relearn their driving, only to have the issue return. After seeing these stories and now reading about the investigation into the issue I've been holding off to see what happens as I do not want to waste time and money to not have the issue fixed. There were not any warning lamps, etc before or after this issue. I have noticed that when the jarring shifts occur the small area of the cluster that shows gears one through six goes black and remains that way until manually pressing the button on the shifter to make the image reappear. To this point these shifting issues almost always occur at low speeds while gently resting my foot on the gas to keep a steady speed. It feels as though the transmission shifts into fifth too early, the rpms slowly lower and then it downshifts to fourth in a jarring manner.

failure of driver side left turbo leaking. Dealership suggests a rebuild of the unit for $3,000 but an independent mechanic suggests the replace the turbo because it has an internal issue that will just cause it to leak again. After researching online this is a common problem with this particular turbo with even a service bulletin. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176843-0001.pdf

Vehicle would downshift to 3rd or 1st gear and will not shift out of that gear at any speeds. Would happen at randomly at highway speeds or just from accelerating from a stop, causing dangerous speed changes while on highway. Turning engine/keys completely off and back on will reset the error. Service wrench light would also come on occasionally when this happens. This issue has been prevalent for the last few years since after hitting 60k miles mark. Inspection is available upon request. Issue cannot be reproduced on demand, only randomly. Issue has not been evaluated by any service technicians or dealerships or any other persons except myself using a diagnostics code scanner. Using a diagnostic scanner shows error code "P0722-00 Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal - Not Current DTC."

My [XXX] daughter and friend were driving our F150 lariat super crew cab 3.0 deisel which to our knowledge was in excellent condition. The driver behind her frantically pulled them over as the rear underneath of the truck was on fire. They immediately pulled over and within several minutes the entire truck burned to the ground. Luckily the girls were safe, although very shaken. There were no warning lights on the dash and the smoke was behind the truck. Had their not been a car behind them on the country highway, who knows what could have happened to the girls. Twice while driving my vehicle, the on board display screen will start to flicker and then show multiple lines going through it to where you can’t see anything on the screen. You have to turn the vehicle off and then turn it back on to reset it. It looks almost as if it were a flatscreen TV that had been punched.

Transmission would not engage after stopping at stop sign. Initially accelerated to go thru intersection and truck would not engage any gears and was stuck in the middle of the intersection. Switched gear shift to several gears and drive modes and finally engaged in manual shift. Transmission continued to slip and switch to several gears and skip several gears until arriving at destinations regular drive gear selection. Did not see any issues under the vehicle after parking and fluids appear to be clean and filled up to normal levels. Made appointment immediately for service.

On or about March 26 2025 while operating this truck at about 35 MPH the 6 speed transmission shifted to first gear causing the tires to chirp the vehicle to a near stop and red line the engine. This is a known defect that Ford supposedly fixed years ago but apparently was not a proper fix. The vehicle was taken to Medford Ford, Medford NJ on 3/31/2025 where the dealer said transmission should be replaced my expense for $8500 plus tax and the cost of estimate of approximately $202.63. They did not offer an option to repair an otherwise perfectly functioning transmission. This makes me feel like a very unsafe approach. My experience caused such an abrupt stop that under different circumstances there could have been a serious accident.

Transmission was changing gears with a very noticeable jerk. Transmission would downshift without warning at various speeds. Transmission would not shift into gear when lever moved from forward to reverse - would stay in neutral Fortunately, the vehicle warranty had been extended, and repairs were accomplished under that. But your recent investigation of F-150 years 2015 - 2017 should be extended because similar problems are existing in later years. The repairs to the vehicle cost over $4,700 - all covered by the warranty. And it appears that the problem with the transmission is well known among the mechanics who work at Ford Dealerships
