I was able to distinguish today the car noises my vehicle is making happens when I break. Like a “eeeeek” sound. My mileage is under 8,000, had the car almost a year. Also I notice my wheel stiffens. I’m able to verify it happens when I merge - specifically when the lane dashes end. The wheel somehow gets tight even when driving with both hands. As if the vehicle gets confused. This has happened about 5 times this year but every time it happens- I brace myself for the vehicle to crash since I can’t control the wheel, no matter how strong I try to gain control. The wheel gets too tight to steer. These episodes lasts about 3-4 seconds. I am going to take it to the dealership on April 1, 2025. Also there were no messages on my dashboard when these episodes occurred.

On my 2021 Toyota Corolla SE at 43k miles the “service engine needed” notification came on. As I’m researching it’s a known issue with these models and RAV4 models. The cooling valve is needing to be replaced and Toyota does not cover it costing us about $500-$700 at the dealership.

Upon startup in cold weather conditions, a brief but loud grinding/rattling sound will occur. The noise is related to an inadequate spring inside of the intake camshaft gear which will not push a small cylinder in place to lock the intake camshaft gear in place. When not in its proper place, the gear will rattle in its housing, causing the brief noise. If the gear rattles against its housing too hard overtime, it can break and cause catastrophic engine failure by sending metal pieces into the engine, including pistons and rods.

When the windshield wipers are set to intermittent they would swipe as if they were set to lo and then they would come to a complete stop at a 45° angle sometimes starting up again but other times I would need to turn the windshield wipers off then back on for them to go again.

- #11645890March 2, 2025STEERING, UNKNOWN OR OTHER, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
Description of problem/issue: Dear Reader: I recently purchased a new (certified preowned) vehicle and ever since then I have been experiencing some concerns with its handling on the road. This letter seeks to communicate this matter to the proper establishment for some possible recourse. On level roads while the steering wheel is centered straight up (near/over 40mph), the car tends to automatically glide to the left of the lane or coast quickly to the right and won’t stay centered in the lane very long without driver input to steer the car back to the center of the lane. Then when re-centering the car it roams in the other direction, and so forth (an oscillating effect). The issue is that the car diverts from the center of the lane and to maintain the center of the lane the driver has to constantly work at pulling the vehicle back to center. This is not the type of driving performance that I would expect on a new or certified new vehicle. It is both a nuisance and a hazard having to constantly steer the vehicle to center up in the lane. The car’s auto Lane Assist and Departure Assist and auto Steering Assist features are turned off during this time. And even when all these Driver Assist Features are turned back on the drifting/pulling pattern is quite pronounced or seems to be compensating in my opinion. A Google search of the term “2023 Toyota corolla pulls to both sides” produces some great results as to the possible cause and effect. I have never driven a vehicle that diverts so quickly from its own lane so shortly after the driver’s hand is removed from the steering wheel. Nevertheless, the issues that I pointed out remains very alarming and nerve-racking for me! For safety reasons I’m still not pleased with how the car handles on the road. I wonder if there are any Safety Recalls, current or pending, concerning any of the steering or alignment components/features that would help resolve this problem?

Car crash potential safety defect in my 2021 Toyota Corolla sedan , the driver defective air bag didn’t protect the driver from injuries. Passenger and back air bags deployed except the driver’s air bag, the driver was the only one in the car.

Recall 12-20-2023. Passenger air bag sensors on passenger seat that could have been improperly manufactured. This would not allow airbag system to properly classify the occupant’s weight and the airbag may not deploy as designed in certain crashes, increasing the risk of injury. Remedy, as of 2-14-2025, is still not available! What happens to my passenger if we are in an accident? More than a year of not coming up with a solution is totally unacceptable! Please update me on the date this is going to be available to keep people safe. Please look into this safety issue for all Toyota Corolla owners and passengers. This is really an emergency situation.

Wipers randomly stop midway while on the intermittent setting, then continue working. Also if I spray water for cleaning the windshiels or clean light rain it stops and stays there until I move the wiper level to other function.

My 2021 Toyota Corolla's engine coolant bypass valve has shorted out once again. This is the second time this has happened in less than 40,000 miles. The vehicle has been inspected by two different dealers one two separate occurrences for the same issue, even after replacing the failed equipment.

The front end of this vehicle rides too low and tends to scrape the pavement on inclines, usually steep driveways or entrances/exits. If the scrape is severe it can cause one to stop possible in the lane of traffic with possible exposure to oncoming traffic. In addition, it breaks the thin plastic bumper and may negatively impact other safety features.
