When I cold started the car it rattled and shook, this stopped and the car was fine to drive. When I was on the road the cars check engine light came on and the car suddenly slowed down. An error popped up saying that there is a “powertrain malfunction”. BMW dealership said that it is a failure in VANOS system. There was a recall on other BMW models expect mine, 2018 BMW 4 series.

Consisent failure of coolant line system. First noticed warning light "low coolant" and immediate overheating in November of 2021. Had the issue repaired at mechanic in 11/2021. Then same exact issue recurred in April of 2023, starting with warning light of "low coolant." Received letter from BMW USA indicating the problem can be repaired at any authorized dealership, but that this was NOT a recall. Took my car to authorized BMW dealership and got the same problem repaired. Just had the same exact thing happen again, same warning light, and took back to same authorized dealership to check the repair and was told multiple issues with the coolant line and had to pay $1900 for the repair. I am being told by several mechanics that this a design defect/flaw in these models of 4-series BMWs from 2015-2019 years. I am being warned that this issue will likely recur in the next 6-8 months.

The contact owns 2019 BMW 430I. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, he noticed coolant was leaking underneath the vehicle onto the ground. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the message that the coolant level was low was displayed and the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle with a fractured coolant hose, and that the oil filter housing, and an unknown part connecting the engine block from the coolant reservoir needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

The contact owns a 2018 BMW 430I. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low coolant level warning light illuminated on the instrument panel, prompting the contact to refill the coolant reservoir. However, within two weeks, the failure reoccurred. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed an abnormally low coolant level. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the coolant was leaking from the reservoir hose. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Service Action: 17-01-21. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 57,000.

The seat belt retractor keeps breaking, dealer fixed it once, broke after two days, dealer did not want to fix again, arguing for over a year, finally they fixed it supposedly, it broke again in less than a week. Dealer refuses to fix the problem saying that they will not cover it, this is a safety issue which scares me as the seat belt does not work well.

The contact owns a 2017 BMW 430I. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, after activating the A/C unit, the contact heard an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vents, and the A/C unit failed to blow cold. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that insufficient and poorly completed body and electrical work was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, and the dealer declined to offer further assistance due to the poor condition of the aftermarket parts used to repair the vehicle, which the contact stated he was unaware of at the time of purchasing the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,700.

Oil filter housing and coolant leak from same housing. While driving, safety warning light came on and car began to overheat. Per several mechanics, this is a known issue with BMW Series 4 from redesign in car after 2017. Redesign implemented plastic housing which cracks and leaks. Same issue also listed as problem when researching on internet (hundreds of listings). Housing and seal cost $574 in parts but labor cost $2199.40 due to location of repair. My car had 55,000 miles on it and is housed in a garage.

I was driving along the road and my car without warning overheated. I was able to drive to a safe place and park and contacted BMW of Southpoint Durham, NC. I was told that there was a recall on the hose which caused the car to overheat. I was told that they are waiting for BMW to issue the corrected/replacement hose for the car and in the meantime they would put a temporary hose on the car. I was told to pay out of pocket and then be reimbursed when the correct hose is issued by BMW. Many others had this same issue. BMW of Southpoint received the correct hose 2023 and put it on my car but now BMW is saying there was no recall. My safety and others were at risk because the engine could have caught fire, it could've caused me to lose control and crash. I had to sit on the side of the road for hours and could've been hit by another vehicle. Vehicle was inspected by BMW of Southpoint. There were no warning signs. lamps or messages prior to the car overheating. This happened February/March of 2022. Since then I was told letters had been sent out for a service update.

On Aednesday April 12th, I was driving on a busy road and the car died. There was no safe place for me to pull off which had cars swerving to miss me. There was no indication of coolant level low. The car just died. After extensive research, I found out this car was part of a service action that was never performed because I wasn’t notified of it. This is very dangerous to anyone who owns a 2019 BMW 430i and will cause bodily harm or death if not recalled.

The contact called on behalf of his daughter who owns a 2017 BMW 430I. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated, and the message indicating a seat occupancy failure was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that the seat belt chime reminder was audible even though there was a passenger seated in the front passenger’s seat with the seat belt properly buckled up. The contact, who is a certified mechanic, diagnosed that the front passenger’s seat occupancy mat had failed. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to stop driving the vehicle and to take the vehicle to their location for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Car stalled because of coolant vent line in cylinder head Faulty coolant line like other models. I was lucky enough to get out of traffic without an accident. This car had to be flatbeded to dealership to repair their “service advisory” which I was never notified of. My papers from dealership says BMW recall and they are now refusing payment for tow!! This faulty part could cause someone to be killed!!! They need to be held accountable for tow because of a faulty part that could be deadly

"Passenger restraint system: Malfunction" alert came up on the display screen and then quickly disappeared several times. BMW dealer said the seat belt/airbags would not operate correctly in the event of a crash. BMW dealer said it was not related to the 2 recalls issued in 2021 and 2022 on this car for coolant or telematics (which BMW had not notified us about yet or fixed during service appts in 2021 or 2022). From a quick search online, this specific passenger restraint warning alert is unfortunately a very common problem with this year/make/model and should be reviewed to see if it qualifies as a recall. BMW dealer charged $1840 to replace the seat, mat and clear the warning alert.

I have a BMW 430i Gran Coupe, there was a system coolant leak and now they are saying the entire system needs to be replaced because the plastic cracked and eroded from wear and tear. I began checking and found that over 1 million BMW vehicles were recalled for coolant system problems. My car seems it wasn't covered under the recall. I found a service bulletin which stated that certain BMW repairs were necessary to replace coolant line. 2 Service Bulletins - SI B01 29 16 and SIB 17 01 21. I believe my car was covered under the recall that affected EGR module, the issue I am having now could also have been affected by this recall. I see many people online complaining of the coolant leak issue. I had to wait until I got paid to fix it. They are telling me it will cost about $5,000 to repair. Please help.

Lumbar support automatically inflates without driver pushing button. This causes the driver to become distracted, uncomfortable and losing focus trying to deflate lumbar support while driving. Has not been inspected but I did ask dealer about this being an issue. No warning of any kind alerts driver of inflation of lumbar.
