Driver's side door cannot be opened from outside. Exterior handle pulls but produces only clicking sounds inside the door—latch does not release. Interior handle requires multiple pulls to open the door. Emergency release handle (pulling exterior handle fully upward) also fails to open the door. This vehicle has had both door handle recalls (23V-706 and 24V-329) performed by an authorized VW dealership. The problem has occurred intermittently since purchasing the vehicle over a year ago but is now persistent/permanent. This is a safety defect—the driver cannot exit normally in an emergency, and the vehicle cannot be accessed from outside through the driver's door by any means including the emergency release.

I own one of 311 vehicles specifically identified in this recall regarding "misaligned electrodes" and "shifted cathodes" in the high-voltage battery. I am formally requesting that Volkswagen replace all battery modules within the high-voltage pack of the affected 311 vehicles for the following reasons: 1. Systemic Manufacturing Deviation: The identified root cause—faulty stacker machines at the SK On facility—points to a systemic mechanical failure rather than an isolated material defect. Given that these machines were responsible for the layering and alignment of the entire pack, there is no reasonable assurance that the remaining "unflagged" modules do not possess latent alignment deviations that simply haven't triggered a diagnostic flag yet. 2. Safety and Fire Risk: The defect in question is not a performance issue but a critical safety hazard capable of causing thermal runaway. Partial replacement leaves the vehicle owner with a "mixed" battery pack, where older modules may still harbor the same manufacturing inconsistencies, continuing to pose a fire risk to the occupants and the property where the vehicle is parked. 3. Battery Imbalance and Longevity: Replacing only a subset of modules introduces a significant discrepancy in state-of-health (SoH) and internal resistance between new and old modules. This imbalance can lead to accelerated degradation of the remaining modules, reduced driving range, and repeated "Service Required" visits, as evidenced by other EV owners undergoing similar partial module recalls. 4. Diminished Value and Consumer Confidence: The "311 units" designation suggests a high concentration of risk. A vehicle with a history of multiple "surgical" battery repairs due to manufacturing-induced fire risks suffers significantly higher depreciation than those with a factory certified, fully replaced battery system. With 7618 miles it has been in for service 8 times and has had electronic issues for the past 5 visits that are still unresolved.

I am reporting a potential safety-related defect involving the high-voltage battery system and associated diagnostic software in a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S AWD. The vehicle has experienced abnormal battery behavior, including accelerated degradation and confirmed system faults affecting battery management, charging, and vehicle communication. An independent EV diagnostic test shows the high-voltage battery at approximately 91% state of health, representing about 9% degradation in under two years of normal use. The testing facility stated this rate of degradation is abnormal for the vehicle’s age, where typical expectations would be significantly lower. In addition, vehicle diagnostics show confirmed and recurring fault codes involving critical systems, including the CAN Gateway (inter-module communication), the high-voltage battery charger/battery management interface, and the emergency call and communication module. These faults are repeatedly logged as “confirmed” and “test failed since last DTC clear,” indicating persistent system-level issues rather than intermittent events. These systems are responsible for battery condition reporting, charging control, communication between vehicle control modules, and safety/telemetry functions. Limitations or failures in these systems raise concerns that battery condition and integrity may not be accurately detected or reported to the driver. Volkswagen dealerships have declined to perform the definitive manufacturer-certified battery capacity test, stating it will not be authorized unless battery capacity is already below warranty thresholds. As a result, more accurate and intrusive testing is unavailable due to manufacturer policy rather than lack of concern. I am also aware of an independent investigation released in January 2026 documenting production-related battery cell defects in Volkswagen Group MEB vehicles from model years 2021–2023, involving increased battery self-discharge and diagnostic measures that may

My ID.4 was charging in the driveway and it started on fire. My daughter came home from a friends house, saw it had started on fire, and called 911. By the time the fire department got to my house the fire had spread to the attic and continued further. My wife and pets were in the house when the fire started, but got out quickly. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent inspector in my driveway and then it was taken to an offsite facility in California to have an additional inspection. VW and Farmers Insurance (my insurance) have been involved with both inspections, but i have yet to see any information about that inspection. We saw no warning lights or any reason that we would have thought the car would start on fire. Your website would only allow me to add one photo. I have more photos that i would be happy to provide.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V836000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact requested vehicle rental assistance and a place to park the fire risk vehicle; however, the request was denied. The contact had not experienced a failure.

My Id 4 Pro S has this problem more going back almost 3 years with 8k miles when first reported to the dealership and [XXX] [XXX], [XXX],[XXX]. The correspondences are there as proof. Dealership never fixed this issue or diagnoses this properly since it only happens in wet weather or rainy mist or rain. The issues is the front tires in the front wheel wells make a thumping sound when backing up and moving forward with the wheels turned in any direction and a crunching sound with the car shaking. I am concerned for my safety and VW will not fix the issue. They had it twice in servicing, did not wet the underside to create the wet symptoms so they dismissed the issue. It does not rain much here and I presumed all the over the air updates and 2 day mega update leaving my vehicle would resolve the issue only to find out now with the new rain the problem is still there. This is a manufacturer defect and was reported when my vehicle was under full warranty . Now they are giving me excuses and wont address the problem or diagnose this properly and want to charge me for there manufacturers defect . I only have 22,675 miles on the vehicle now and it is garaged all the time so this is not from wear and tear since it occurred at 8000 miles and was reported twice before. I have multiple case numbers on this and VW will not take responsibility to fix this defect, and malfunction . They had stone walled me and passed this off as no issue. I have videos of the issue on drop box I can sent to you if requested . See drop box videos. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] 2 Videos here from [XXX]. Please help ! The onboard system for connecting the car to the 4g data has failed. Many many people online are reporting this issue. It is a safety issue because there is a loss of the SOS system that alerts authorities that the car has crashed. It also controls the onscreen road sigh display, which could lead to excessive speed and increase the likelihood of a crash. I have been working with VW Connected Car since October 2025 and it still has not been fixed. Here is link to some of the many complaints about this safety issue. Dome lights in vehicle turn on and off on their own. Trying to turn them off does not work. They keep turning off and on. This seems to be a known issue by other owners and the dealerships. At night it is very distracting and could be dangerous when a lone driver is paying more attention trying to turn them off or having visibility issue with the light turning on inside the car.

The vehicle's emergency communication system (SOS button) and CarNet connectivity completely failed, disabling critical safety features. Repair History: First Attempt: The vehicle was at the authorized dealer (Volkswagen of Union, NJ) for 2 days. They replaced a communication module but released the vehicle to me with the SOS system still non-functional and without verifying the repair. Current Status: The vehicle has been back at the same dealership for over 14 days (Total cumulative days out of service: 16+ days). The dealer has failed to fix the safety defect and also refuses to address a persistent internal brake pedal noise, dismissing it without proper diagnosis. This vehicle is currently unsafe to drive as it cannot contact emergency services in the event of a crash

On May 28, 2025, a 2023 VW ID.4 spontaneously caught fire while in use. The local Fire Department and County Hazmat responded to the scene. The vehicle was declared a total loss due to thermal runaway and lithium battery fume toxicity. Crucially, the vehicle experienced a secondary ignition/re-fire several days later while in the custody of a towing company, resulting in the total destruction of the vehicle and damage to third-party property. The manufacturer participated in a joint inspection of the remains in late October 2025 but has not provided an explanation for the failure. This vehicle represents a severe public safety hazard, as the fire occurred without warning and the high-voltage battery system proved unstable enough to reignite days after the initial suppression. I am requesting a formal investigation into the high-voltage battery stability and potential manufacturing defects for this model year to prevent similar life-threatening incidents for other owners.

My 2022 VW ID.4 Pro S has experienced a total failure of the GPS and telematics system (J949 module), causing a dangerous 'GPS Drift' where the vehicle reports its location miles away from its actual position. This creates two severe safety hazards: Automated System Malfunction: The Travel Assist and Dynamic Road Sign systems are receiving conflicting data. The camera correctly identifies a speed limit (e.g., 40 mph), but the faulty GPS overrides it with incorrect map data (e.g., 25 mph). This causes the vehicle to unexpectedly and dangerously decelerate while in active traffic. Emergency Service Failure: The eCall (Emergency Call) system is reporting the wrong location. In the event of a serious crash, emergency responders would be directed to a location miles away from the actual accident site. My dealer provided written documentation (attached) stating there is 'NO FIX' currently for 2021-2023 models, as they are hardware-locked to a failing Verizon-based data protocol that VW has not patched. The manufacturer has acknowledged the defect but offers no remedy for this safety-critical system.

I am writing to formally report a serious and ongoing defect with my 2025 Volkswagen ID.4, purchased 3 months and 2 days ago and currently located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since purchase, the vehicle has experienced at least eight 8 separate failures of the infotainment / central display system, which controls essential vehicle functions including climate control, audio, vehicle settings, and camera systems. Description of the defect: The central display intermittently: •freezes. •becomes unresponsive. •shuts down completely. •or fails to boot properly. When this occurs, I lose control of critical vehicle functions, including climate control and camera access, which raises significant safety and usability concerns. Key concerns: •The vehicle is new and under full factory warranty. •The defect is repetitive, unresolved, and not isolated. •This is not a cosmetic issue, but a functional failure of systems essential to vehicle operation. •The frequency and persistence of this issue raise concerns regarding vehicle reliability and compliance with safety expectations. Given the number of occurrences within a very short ownership period, I am formally requesting that PLEASE Volkswagen: 1.Open an official case regarding this defect 2.Provide a permanent repair solution (not a temporary reset), and 3.Advise on next steps should this defect continue, including remedies available under warranty and applicable consumer protection / Lemon Law provisions. Please I ask for your support. I am prepared to provide service records, videos, dates of failure, and VIN information upon request. I expect this matter to be handled with the urgency appropriate for a repeated defect affecting essential vehicle systems in a new vehicle.

Since purchasing my vehicle in January of 2023 the front breaks have been squeaking. I brought this to the attention of the dealer where I purchased the vehicle, several times. I even asked them how I will I even supposed to know if I need new brakes because the start of the squeaking is typically a sign to get your brakes checked. Anyway, online auto forums are loaded with this squeaking brake problem!!! A few weeks ago I went in for service and VW told me my brakes were at 6mm, and suggested replacement of the pads. Yes, at 6 mm! So now all I can help but think that VW has known all along about this brake problem and at about year three, they feel that they can recommend a brake job. After leaving the dealership, I went to the garage near my house and they ordered new front pads and rotors. My problem has been resolved!! Squeaking gone!! The safety concern here is that driving this vehicle with the squeaky brakes for year will cause the driver to ignore the ongoing squeaking noise, which may result in them driving beyond the life of the brakes.

The contact owned a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and there was a loud revving noise coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle then independently accelerated at full speed. The contact stated that her husband depressed the brake pedal several times, but the vehicle did not slow down, and the steering wheel locked, preventing the driver from steering the vehicle to safety. The vehicle then crashed into the back of another vehicle that was either stopped or was moving extremely slow. The contact’s husband sustained back, and neck injuries but had not sought medical intention. The insurance company informed the contact the that the other driver had since sought medical attention. A Police report was filed but was not available. The other vehicle was driven from the scene; however, the contact’s vehicle was towed to a tow lot where it was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

I purchased this 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, and the electrical issues began almost immediately after taking ownership. While driving, the main infotainment display will suddenly reset, freeze, or go completely blank. Sometimes the instrument cluster also flickers or freezes during these events. At the same time, I received a “12V battery limited, please drive with care” warning. When the center screen resets while the vehicle is in motion, I temporarily lose access to important driving information such as the backup camera, vehicle status, sound alerts, and sometimes the speedometer. These failures create a safety concern because they remove visibility of warning indicators and essential driving data. The 12-volt system warnings also raise concern that the vehicle may lose power to critical control modules or experience a sudden electrical shutdown. The issues are intermittent but recurring, and started immediately after purchasing the vehicle CPO, which suggests the defect existed before I acquired the car. This appears consistent with other reported electrical and 12-volt system failures on the ID.4. I am reporting this because I believe the issue may be part of a broader safety defect involving the vehicle’s low-voltage electrical system, displays, or charging circuitry.

Electrical gremlins present at time of purchase (3/14/2025). Entered service and repair on 3/17/2025 and remained for 30-45 days. Upon coming to retrieve vehicle electrical malfunctions still present upon entering vehicle in the service bay, alerted advisor. Car was checked back into service immediately and remained for 60-90 days. Between March and December I have had continuous electrical gremlins present from Dashboard and display malfunction, interior lights malfunction, trunk/doors/locks/windows malfunction to no end and no repair in sight. This specific vehicle is a lemon and riddled with irreparable electrical gremlins, it has cost me significant income loss and loss of faith in the reliability of Volkswagen brand that I love so much.
