The front wheel assembly detached from the vehicle while I was driving. The vehicle is a Volkswagen ID.4 currently under lease. Prior to the incident, the vehicle had multiple wheel alignment services performed by an authorized Volkswagen dealership on May 24, 2025 and August 11, 2025. After the wheel detached on February 1st, 2026, the vehicle was towed and repaired by an independent repair shop. The vehicle and repaired wheel assembly may still be available for inspection if requested. The wheel detached while the vehicle was traveling on a public street, which caused an immediate loss of control and created a serious risk of collision and injury to myself and other road users. The vehicle could not be driven and required a tow. A police officer assisted at the scene in arranging a tow truck because the vehicle was immobilized.

The instrument panel in my car went completely dark, leaving me without any knowledge of my speed. This is a massive safety risk. I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow, but there are no issues that came up when this failed, it just failed to boot correctly, and nothing I could do would bring it back.

I am advised by VW to not charge this vehicle using the L3 super chargers along with not to charge it "inside" a garage. However, there is no way to charge the vehicle then without spending thousands to have an electrician move the plug outside. So I am forced to have this vehicle not usable and VW offers zero fix. I have written them a formal demand letter over 3 weeks ago requesting a fix or buy back and they ignore it. They have sold a vehicle which is clearly unsafe, however offer no fix

The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle shut off while driving to the residence from the dealer. The vehicle was restarted and operated normally. Prior to the failure, several software updates were performed under recall. The contact was referred to an out-of-state dealer to perform the software updates. No further information was available. Recently, the contact exited the vehicle and discovered that the doors would not open and the front headlights were illuminated. The contact crawled through the hatch to open the trunk and disconnect the 12-Volt battery. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

- #11719996February 23, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I was slowing down to park the car when it lurched forward in high speed and smashed into the wall. The front collision warning never went off, and the emergency braking never came on. My foot was on the accelerator and lifting off to park at low speed like I do all the time, so it wasn't like I was trying to slam on the brakes and pressed on the accelerator by mistake. The car was serviced at the dealership less than a week ago, but VW pushed out an OTA update 2 days ago. I don't know if the OTA update has anything to do with this scary behavior, but I have not experienced anything like this before.

For the past seven months, my vehicle‘s location settings have been off. It has been to the dealership multiple times and is connected to satellite, but is unable to show the proper location for the car. While I am driving, I am often unable to use my cell phones Apple or Google Maps because the phone’s location services are off. As soon as I exit the car, my phone is able to find the correct location. I am so tired of getting conflicting information from Volkswagen. I’ve also had glitches with the computer system, where the infotainment system will turn off and everything turns black while I’m driving, not allowing me to see my speed or anything else on the dash. This is a known issue with these vehicles, but we are not getting any support.

The vehicle continues to unlock itself. The dealer has been able to reproduce the problem. First repair. They said it was because of a recall to do with the door handles, even though the recall didn’t state any of that cause they were able to reproduce the vehicle unlocking itself after the recall so they did a software update once I took the vehicle home was able to reproduce, and the issue of it unlocking itself continued. I returned the vehicle to the same dealer and which they had the vehicle for an additional 26 days with another software update and then they had to call in to the tech line where they had to replace the control module that still didn’t fix the issue then had to replace a key then they released the vehicle back to me as they exhausted all their options and the issue is still present unable to drive the vehicle due to security concerns

VW has informed me that my 2023 ID4 has a faulty battery that is at risk of catching fire. The VW corporate representative told me not to charge at fast charging stations and to keep it clear from my property because of the risk of it catching fire. VW has not issued the recall yet as they dont have a solution, but warned me about the dangers. They said they don't expect to issue the recall until mid march. I also talked to a VW dealer and they said when the recall comes out that the wait time to fix will be significant. In the meantime, I feel very unsafe driving , charging, parking this car.

GPS is indicating incorrect location. GPS routing is not accurate. Car essentially doesn't know where it is. Sign assist feature is showing wrong speeds on roads. This appears to be a common problem with VW cars. In an emergency help needs to know where the car is located. This is an ongoing problem that doesn't have a solution.

The vehicle has been in to the dealer multiple times for electrical system failures. The car is not safe to drive and has stalled multiple times while driving. The system has errors that light up stating there is an electrical system failure. The car has stopped driving in the middle of a trip, I have been stuck with my family multiple times while on short trips and long trips. The vehicle has been repaired multiple times for the same issue and it just came back again after several months being repaired. Each time the repairs occur, I end up renting a car and the time it sits at the dealer or repair shop has varied from 45 days to several days. This car needs to go. The issue first occurred a little over a year ago and has happened 3-7 times since and at random times. The issue has been reproduced by the dealer and reported to VW HQ.

This vehicle is a total safety hazard due to two distinct failures: 1. Unresolved Door Defect (14+ Months): For over 14 months, the vehicle has suffered from 'Self-Opening Door Handles.' Despite 4 repair attempts, the manufacturer has failed to fix this, posing a risk of doors opening while driving. 2. Fire Risk & Use Restriction (Current Recall 26V-028): Currently, the vehicle is under a 'High-Voltage Battery Fire Risk' recall. The manufacturer has no remedy available and advises to 'Park Outside' and 'Away from Structures,' while also advising against fast charging. Conclusion: I am stuck with a car that has doors that open on their own and a battery that might catch fire. The manufacturer refuses to repurchase this unsafe vehicle. I request an immediate investigation.

Abnormal inside tire wear leading to blow outs and flats. TSB 42M6 available for alignment, adjustment bolts and camber adjustments but it was not sent to my car and I've had to replace 2 sets of rear tires due to uneven wear. Mileage currently is at 35k. Dealer states no issues with suspension or alignment but can't explain the uneven wear. First time was in October 2024 and then this time February 2026. Car was newly driven January 2023. Dealer is asking me to pay each time for new tires. Money or tire sales for them over my safety and the safety of others on the freeway shouldn't be the priority. I could've been in an accident or a rollover twice now. Fixing the actual issue is being neglected. The TSB should include my vehicle and should be a safety recall.

Car is inoperable. The display states a number of issues: Display states that: 1. "Error: Drive System. Please service vehicle." 2. "Unable to Start. Please Remove the Charging Cable": Vehicle is unable to start due to the fact that the charger cable is still attached. The vehicle is not plugged in, and cannot be moved because of this. 3.Display states that "Range Cannot Be Calculated" 4."Electrical System Not Working Correctly! Safely Stop The Vehicle." This car has many issues, but these are new and are keeping the vehicle from being able to be operated

On [XXX], shortly before 7:00 we parked our EV in the designated charging space at the EVgo charging station on at the EVgo charging station located at [XXX] and connected the charging cable to our 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 in the normal, intended manner, as we had done previously. We paid by credit card and watched the EVgo screen confirm proper connection and that charging had begun. We remained in the vehicle for several minutes to verify the session was proceeding normally and observed nothing unusual—no warning lights, error messages, or signs of malfunction. Only after confirming that charging appeared underway did we leave the car. We went into the Marshalls store across the parking lot. Inside the store, I monitored the charging progress through the Volkswagen mobile app, which showed the battery percentage increasing. When the battery reached approximately 23%, the charging session stopped abruptly and without explanation. I immediately went outside to check the vehicle and charger connection. When I reached the charging station, I found the ID.4 on fire, with flames visible and shooting high into the air. A police officer was already on scene and prevented anyone, including me, from approaching due to the risk of explosion, toxic smoke, or the fire spreading. Within minutes, Somerville Fire Department trucks arrived and took control. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes, smashing the windows to vent smoke and heat and then saturating the vehicle during suppression efforts, leaving it heavily damaged beyond the fire itself. The fire occurred while the vehicle was stationary, plugged into a public charging station, and engaged in normal charging. The sudden ignition during what appeared to be a routine charging session raises serious safety concerns regarding the vehicle and/or charging equipment. My 2023 VW ID4 has experienced multiple system failures/malfunctions (e.g., display, backup camera, climate controls, & speedometer failed) beginning in late November 2025. The following is a summary & an approximate timeline: Nov 4, 2025: “OUE7 – Software Update” email; dealer unable to complete (OTA update). Nov 7 & Nov 21, 2025: Weatherstrip repairs; maintenance inspections performed. Nov 30, 2025: Doors randomly unlocked; front, passenger door failed to latch; intermittent door popper issue. Door handles were previously replaced on Apr 2, 2025. Dec 14, 2025: Incorrect dynamic road signs/speed limits; vehicle mis‑positioned on maps; warnings: 1. “No data is available” 2. “Dynamic road sign display unavailable.” Dec 22, 2025: Major failures documented in photographs below: 1. Speedometer incorrect/no speed. 2. Brake/auto‑hold intermittent malfunction. 3. Multifunction display froze. 4. Defrost/climate controls unresponsive. 5. Backup camera failure. Dec 22, 2025 – Jan 15, 2026: Vehicle at dealer for ~24 days; dealer unable to replicate issues above. Dealer documented CarNet/connected vehicle issues. VW requested switching CarNet carriers (from Verizon to T‑Mobile), not possible for 2023 ID4. Jan 14–15, 2026: Dealer stated “safe to drive”; vehicle picked up. Dealer said VW would contact once they have a resolution for the CarNet. Jan 17, 2026: Same failures (display, backup camera, etc.) above reoccurred; documented by service advisor/manager. Jan 27, 2026: Notifications of open recalls: High‑voltage battery fire risk (NHTSA Recall IDs 26V028, 26V030). Jan 17 – Jan 30, 2026: Vehicle at dealer additional ~13 days; 5F modules replaced. CarNet issues & recalls still unresolved. OUE7 update still appears to be incomplete. Jan 30, 2026: Dealer stated “safe to drive” again; vehicle picked up. Today, the CarNet app / connected vehicle issues & open recall remain unresolved. Continues to show doors open, windows down, & incorrect charge, location, & mileage.

On 6/20/25, while pulling into a parking space at very slow speed, the car suddenly, without my control, violently accellerated. This could have resulted in pesonal injury or death. The car was stopped by crashing into two, nearby parked cars. The dealer's collision shop repaired the car at a cost of approximately $17,000. They did not provide an explanation of the possible cause. There were no warning signs of an issue prior to the event.

While driving, the center infotainment display repeatedly goes completely black and reboots without warning. This occurs while the vehicle is in motion. During these events, the touchscreen-based climate controls and infotainment functions are unavailable until the system restarts. The driver display (speedometer) remains active. This has happened multiple times under normal driving conditions. Volkswagen recommended disabling wireless Apple CarPlay and using a wired USB connection instead. We followed this guidance exactly, disabling Bluetooth and wireless CarPlay and using only a USB connection. Despite this, the infotainment system continues to crash and reboot while driving. Because the vehicle relies on the center screen for climate controls, vehicle settings, and camera access, this failure creates driver distraction and a potential safety risk. Loss of the center display while driving is not acceptable in a new vehicle. This appears to be a software or system stability defect affecting the infotainment system and is not limited to wireless phone connectivity. I have photographic documentation of the screen going black during these events.
