I was driving my 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk and had just started to accelerate when my car showed a warning light for "High Coolant Temp." The car subsequently lost all engine power and immediately initiated my parking brake. The car was stopped in the middle of the roadway, posing a serious danger risk to myself and other drivers. Had this occurred 30 more feet, I would've been in the middle of a railway crossing. After a few seconds, the temperature indicator returned to normal, though the car still had no power. I had to restart my car two times, then the issue was temporarily resolved and I was able to drive back to my house.

While stopped at a traffic light, I went to accelerate when the light turned green. The vehicle turns off to save gas when it is at a standstill and will power up when the brake is released. Today at the light I went to release from the brake and it would not move. Instead it started I had to turn on again. Which it took several times before it would start. Cars were behind me and one almost hit me due to the light being green and I was just sitting there.

The primary issues involve the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), wiring harness, and auxiliary battery system. These interconnected problems compromise vehicle reliability, pose safety risks, and create undue financial burdens on owners. Overview of Defects The vehicle failed to start on [XXX], with illuminated dashboard warnings and automatic parking brake engagement. Initial diagnostics led to replacing the battery and starter, but the issue persisted. Further investigation revealed PCM failure, and even after its replacement, the vehicle remained inoperable. Subsequent diagnostics identified a defective wiring harness. Southern Jeep in Norfolk, Virginia, estimated replacement costs at $4,500. This critical component facilitates communication between the PCM and other systems, and its failure jeopardizes vehicle safety and reliability. Incident History 2021: The vehicle stopped unexpectedly in traffic on Portsmouth Boulevard, Virginia. Initially attributed to a battery failure, evidence now suggests PCM or wiring harness involvement. [XXX]: The vehicle failed to start, initiating weeks of diagnostic efforts and costly repairs. November 2024: The wiring harness was identified as the root cause following PCM replacement. Safety Risks Unexpected Shutdowns: These pose a high risk of accidents, endangering vehicle occupants and other drivers. Start/Stop System Failures: Malfunctions increase the likelihood of breakdowns in hazardous locations. Broader Context Complaints from other Jeep Compass owners and Jeep's issuance of multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) confirm systemic defects in the start/stop system, PCM, and wiring harness. Despite evidence of these recurring issues, Jeep has not initiated a recall, leaving owners to shoulder repair costs. Major down shifting hesitation when slowing down and then trying to accelerate. Very noticeable and dangerous when slowing down and turning. The hesitation is also noticeable when starting to go up an incline and trying to accelerate. In cruise control there is a delay when going up an incline the set speed will go down 3 MPH before shifting hard. Transmission also when shifting from forward to reverse or reverse to forward will engage then pop out of gear for a few seconds then engage again. During normal operation there is no popping out of gear. The dealer has applied three software updates with no improvement to the shifting problems.

- #11625655November 16, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The vehicle is a 2018 Jeep Compass Limited with the VIN [XXX] ####. I purchased it used on [XXX]. On [XXX], I noticed a problem with the headlights. They have been flickering between both headlights almost daily since then. On [XXX], both headlights were out, and I needed to drive at night. After about half a mile, the passenger headlight turned on, and after another half mile, the driver’s headlight came on. I’ve attached photos taken on October [XXX] and [XXX] to illustrate the issue. It’s a serious safety concern. This is just one of several dozen reports of the same problem. The manufacturer must be informed about this issue and initiate a recall once they have a solution to ensure that the headlights remain on when they’re supposed to. The computer screen has failed (is still running but not visible), leaving no access to backup cameras, no access to steering wheel heater and seat heater causing over heating of the driver (the steering wheel gets too hot), draining the battery, and could cause potential wiring hazards. There are thousands of reports of Jeep radio screens not functioning properly and showing streaking, yet there have been no recalls.

Thermostat keeps going to hot or stops working and drops to cold. Replaced thermostat coolant sensor since that’s what the code popped up. Didn’t work it continues to out. Radiator cap is collecting engine oil and not coolant. Engine oil is getting into my radiator hose. I had just got my radiator and stuff replaced by the dealership. I only had it for 6 months and been putting a lot of money in it and I’m still having engine and thermostat and radiator problems. Also it keeps smoking when it already has coolant in it.

I purchased a 2022 jeep Compass in April of 2024. In the past few weeks the jeep has had a reoccurring issue. Issue is when at a stop, message appears saying "Coolant Temperature to High", the Jeep will beep flash that message, coolant temp gauge will jump to the top then down to the bottom and the vehicle will shut its self off, and check engine light will be solid but the "coolant" message will go away. Along with this, the auto start/stop feature (when at a stop vehicle shuts its self off and electronics run of aux battery, then when brake peddle is released vehicle starts up and power is back on the main battery) has not been functioning, I assume this happened around the time off the first coolant message a few weeks back. While drive I h

I came to a stop for a red light at a hazardous intersection, and waited for the green arrow for my left turn. When the green arrow came I attempted to accelerate but the brakes locked and subsequently the vehicle began drifting into oncoming traffic. I lost power steering. I managed to stop it after getting out of the intersection by throwing the gear into park. The parking brake seemed to have been engaged by the stop/start system. Subsequent research on this issue revealed this is a recurring issue and especially with 2019 Compass, and people have experienced the stop start stalling their cars in highway traffic at speeds of 65 m.p.h. Obviously, this is a severe life threatening defect. Because this happened on a weekend, the mechanics have not yet evaluated the vehicle. Please have Jeep held accountable.

While driving with my wife and 3 kids the car automatically braked by itself. Lucky to be able to report this. The NTHSA doesn’t have any current recalls on my VIN. It should now this model vehicle could be causing future accidents or deaths. Hope this gets some attention asap.

I took my vehicle to a dealership for diagnostic and was told the lower control arm in front is making noise. They want over $700 for labor alone. I looked up the issue online and saw a recall but my vin isn't on the list so they won't fix it. Please add my vin because the issue is apparent
