AIR BAGS
The contact owned a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while stopped in traffic, he was involved in a rear end crash. The contact stated that the vehicle was pushed forward by the impact into the rear end of another vehicle. The contact stated that the rear end of the vehicle was crushed in to the rear wheel wells, and the front end of the vehicle, the hood, front bumper, and grill were also crushed back into the front wheel wells. The contact stated that the front air bags had not deployed after being pushed into the rear of the other vehicle. The contact was not sure what happened to the other two vehicles. The contact stated that the Police were called and EMS was also on scene. The contact stated that a Police report was filed. The contact stated that he was not transported to the hospital, but later had been taken by a friend to seek medical attention. The contact stated that the jolt of the impact had caused a concussion. Additionally, there were some bruising from the seat belt to the left shoulder. The contact stated that after the crash the seat belt failed to retract and the issue might be due to a sensor failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an impound lot and later declared a total loss by the Insurance Company. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Intellibeam feature is not dimming the lights when oncoming vehicles are present or there are vehicles in front of me. This has happened twice now in cold weather only (late November/early December) in Michigan. Also, they do not dim while driving when it's snowing. I have tried to disengage the feature using the button on the left stalk on the steering wheel but the button doesn't seem to turn the feature on or off. This issue could be affecting other drivers as the high beam lights are on as they pass or travel in front of me. Eventually the feature seems to work properly once the vehicle has been driven for 15-20 minutes.

The brake vacuum booster failed, causing the brake assist system to malfunction. Yes, the component is available for inspection upon request. While merging onto the highway, the brake pedal became extremely tight, making it difficult to slow down or stop, creating a hazardous situation. Yes, the issue was confirmed by a service center, and the brake vacuum booster is being repaired. No, the vehicle and component have not been inspected by these parties, but the service center is addressing the repair. Yes, a “Service Brake Assist” warning appeared immediately before the brake pedal tightened. Afterward, the check engine light came on.

ENGINE
[XXX] I was driving on [XXX] when my car abruptly stopped. I was almost hit by the driver behind me. I was able to roll the car over to the shoulder. The car was towed. I had 2 mechanics inspect the car on 11/26/24. They both concluded that the piston rings are defective and the car is consuming oil excessively. The oil consumption in their opinion led to burning of oil in excess that I would be unaware of. Therefore leading to no oil in the car even though the car is reading 100% oil. Thus further leading to engine failure. There were no warning lights on in the car prior to the car stopping. I called Chevrolet Customer Care Assistance. I was informed by the representative that the warranty was no longer valid but, an appointment could be made at a local chevrolet Dealership. However; I would have to pay for a diagnostic. They would then decide what they would do about my car. I questioned why I needed to pay for the diagnostic when 2 mechanics already assessed the vehicle. I also informed them that each mechanic alerted me to the oil consumption issue and that this is something many people have complained about. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Ever so often my check engine will pop on and everything will go haywire. The park assist will cut on and off periodically as well as the automatic high beams and also the infotainment system will connect to my phone and randomly make phone calls at any time. I'm usually alerted of this malfunction when I start the vehicle. Also, the auto stop/start will be active but will continue running when brake is applied. And the final issue is one of the majors, my automatic remote start only works periodically. I'll use this feature from my window which is about 55 ft from my car and the lights will come on but when I get to my car it's not running and everything is off. There is definitely an electrical issue in the vehicle. I have only had the vehicle 3 months and the issue persist more and more frequently. I have informed the dealership and they seem to can't find any issues which is beyond me but they just keep getting worse. I need some sort of help on this matter.

Brand new Chevrolet Equinox EV. When Adaptive Cruise Control is engaged, vehicle will accelerate or coast to mach speed of vehicle ahead, but will not engage brakes. ACC would collide with vehicle ahead unless driver acts. Problem is ongoing. Not one-time. Have scheduled dealer service.

ENGINE
It appears the 2.4L engine is burning oil at a high rate, leading to engine stutters, stalling, and outright engine failure. Our mechanic says if we didn't catch this in time, an engine without the proper amount of oil as a lubricant could stall, seize, and/or cause enough damage to warrant an entire engine replacement. If the engine quit on the freeway around Houston, TX, my wife would have been at great bodily risk. The mechanic suggested that there may be an extended warranty issued to GM Dealers to cover the 2016 Equinox 2.4L engine until 2026. The warning lamp was on for tire sensors, but no indication was given for the oil issue.

The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that prior to the failure, there was an increased frequency of oil changes. The contact stated the oil was being changed once per month. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated to approximately 75 MPH. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The vehicle stalled, and the contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer it was purchased from. The dealer informed the contact that there was no oil in the vehicle even though an oil change had been performed on the vehicle. The dealer replaced the upper part of the engine; however, the failure recurred while driving. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering, made abnormal sounds and stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the lower part of the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for the VIN to be added in an unknown related recall. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

I JUST PURCHASED A 2019 CHEVY EQUINOX PREMIER AND I FOUND WATER IN THE SPARE TIME WHEEL WELL. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THERE IS A WATER LEAK CAUSING WATER TO SPILL ON THE FUSE BOX LOCATED IN THE BACK PANEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE FUSE PANEL SHORTS OUT, ESPECIALLY IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING.

The 2. 1018 Equinox has a brake booster.Vacuum pump on the side of the engine that is a known Failure. The vehicle has very hard brake pedal and barely stops. If left unfixed? The vacuum pump seizes and will blown the engine resulting in full engine replacement. The chevy dealer (local) acknowledges the issue and has stocked the parts shelf at $159. The problem is with multiple makes with the 1.5 l turbo engine. The cost of a new engine is around $5200.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Reduced Engine Power" message flashed on the instrument panel with an audible beep coming from the vehicle. The vehicle started to lose power and the contact pulled over to the side of the road. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was discovered that the vacuum pump had damaged the cam shaft, causing the cam shaft to explode, releasing particles into the engine long block. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics) which was then linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I was driving in rush hour traffic on a freeway in Houston when the engine lost power and stalled out (50 mph) without warning. I had to remain on the freeway while cars whizzed past me. Car finally started back up after 30 minutes of trying. Vehicle only has 8800 miles on it and acted like it had run out of gas as it sputtered before dying. Engine light came on and remained on after it finally started back up. All fluids in range and was at 1/2 tank of gas. In process of diagnostics.

Chevy has known about this problem stemming since 2012 and has not addressed this with the American consumers.
