The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH, there was an abnormal odor entering the cabin of the vehicle while the air conditioning system was activated or turned off. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that there was a leak in the exhaust pipe, and that the exhaust pipe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Twice the exhaust has leaked into the cabin to the point where it is very noticeable. It causes headaches and breathing problems. GM has known of this issue for several years and it has been reported several times. GM placed a bandaid on it knowing it would fail.

Drove car down street and the car wouldn’t accelerate. Had towed to mechanic who found the direct injection high pressure fuel pump snapped off. When removed from vehicle they found broken bolt in cylinder head and the steel fuel line from pump to injector rail leaking fuel.

I drive 20+ miles each way to work every day. Much of this drive is on highways, and currently the bridge connecting Ohio and Kentucky is down to three lanes with no berm. On a windy road with low visibility and a steep hill near my home, the car completely lost power and acceleration without any warning. I wasn't able to drive it completely off the road before it came to a stop and due to the loss of power was unable to move into neutral to push it and the hazards would not work. Thank God that this didn't take place on the bridge or with my family in the car. I made the decision to exit the car while it was still on the road and find a safe area in the grass where I could call for help. When I exited the vehicle, it locked me out and the only way to get in was through the driver's side door, which would put me back on the road in traffic and at risk. The electrical failure prevented me from opening the other doors. The car's complete system failure put my safety/life at risk and could jeopardize the lives of others if it wasn't investigated. To make matters worse when the tow truck came via OnStar they weren't equipped to move a car stuck in park or drive due to the electronic gear shift so they drug it with the tires locked onto the bed. After several days of testing the electrical system, the dealership found a loose wire and informed me that it had been fixed. I picked up the car and after a mile or so, the check engine light came on. I contacted the dealership to come pick it up and that's where it stands at the moment. My intention was to pass this on to my boys when they start driving, but this experience will alter that plan.

In addition, the contact researched and stated that the vehicle had a known failure in the fuel system. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. EXTERIOR LIGHTING, STEERING
There is a button on the top of the steering wheel that puts the car in low gear. We have been going down the interstate twice and my husband accidentally hit the button slowing down the car immediately. This is very dangerous and could cause a rear end collision. We have reported it to Chevrolet several times, to the service department twice and the corporation also. Low gear has normally been on the gear shift with all the other gears, but for some reason, they put it on the top left side of the steering wheel. That is a very strange place to have that since the steering wheel also has buttons for cruise control, Bluetooth, stereo, etc. We think this button needs to be disengaged and put else where, but Chevrolet offered us $150 for the inconvenience. We are not concerned with convenience, but with safety. Also, the vertical buttons on the dash below the navigation screen are not visible during the day. At night, when it is dark, the light illuminate the buttons so they can be seen, but they are not visible during the day. However, you do need to be able to see the buttons. My husband used a label maker to put the names on the buttons just to prevent a wreck, but Chevrolet needs to address the issue. We have mentioned this to the service department and corporate office, but they do no seem to be concerned. We consider both items to be an issue that needs to be corrected, but no one seems to care. The contact stated that the gear shifter was sticking. The vehicle jerked, hesitated, and then stalled. The contact stated that the doors were locking and unlocking without driver input after an update was performed, and the keys became locked inside the vehicle. The service transmission warning light was illuminated. The telematics module, GPS, and OnStar were not working as designed. The contact stated that the OnStar went into red and lost connectivity and was unable to locate the vehicle. The contact was concerned about driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined after further inspection that the battery was drained due to the telematics module draining the battery. The dealer informed the contact that parts were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the camshaft, resulting in damage to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 72,000.

The 1st time my 2022 Equinox broke down was July 1st 2025 approximately 3+ miles from my house turned left at intersection (stop sign) approximately 50 yards. All sudden engine lost power (engine was still running) till it stopped running. (At that time I was thinking it ran out of gas. I know I had plenty of gas). No advance warning. No idiot lights came on, not even the check engine either. I was driving approximately 35-40 mph. No power steering. I got the car off the road about one foot. so, I called a tow truck & I waited approximately 45 minutes. Was towed the nearest GM dealership & that costed $144.00. On July 9 2025 I got my car back. The service manager (person) told me the fuel pump control module shorted out. The 2nd time my 2022 Equinox LT broke down was on August 23 2025 Pulled out of garage than engine started idling rough then it stopped running. I tried to start it again was very hard to start. I drove it approximately 50 feet & the engine stopped running again. I got it to start & back it off the street & in to garage. Waited till 8/25/2025 baby it to Buick/GMC dealership. Too many problems with car. AC stopped working. Told cylinders bad. Needs New engine. Still in the shop as of November 17 2025. I have GMC Customer Service involved in this since July 1 2025. GMC hasn't reimburse me the $144.00 for towing charge.

Subframe rust ? my 2006 chev eq , has only 50, 000 mile on it and the sub frame is rust out ? I check for recall but said 0 ? I can’t under stand how ? Body guy said it going to cost thousands of dollars ! I can’t afford that ! ! what should I do ? There Should be a recall ? on this frame ! Frame is very important part of the car ! I had lot of chev from 1970 to 1980 with 150,000 miles on them ! With out this much rust , body guy stayed it been happening a lot with the chev , It look like it been happening for a while on my 2006 chev , eq before the 50,000 ! ? Very Very dangerous ! Very disappointing and worried that some thing could happen I only use it to go store , pick up kids from school, get food , go around town ,low mileage’s on it ! very disappointed in chev need. To recall this NEED Help ! Thank you

Recently got an oil change, and in a month I’ve had to “top-off” my oil. Constantly have to make sure I carry a few quarts of oil to make sure my oil is filled. One day, I forgot to check the oil and my car was stalling on a busy road. Had to pull over to make sure I put the oil in there. Everyone that I’ve asked said they have the same issue. I stopped asking people after the 10th person. My uncle is a mechanic and he said the same thing about the oil. He said he wasn’t sure where is goes but it just disappears.

As I was parked with the car running, my 2024 Equinox suddenly shut down and the check engine light came on. I tried to start it, but it didn’t. Someone tried to jump the battery, thinking it was that, but it wasn’t. I had it towed to the dealership and after 2 days they said the Fuel Pump Power Control Module needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, GM did not have the part, but the dealership found one in another state and we had to wait several days for it to be mailed to them. After a week, once the part was replaced, they tried to start the car and realized that the original issue fried the battery, so they had to replace that as well. I was told that they had seen several customers with the same issue and wouldn’t be surprised if GM eventually issues a recall. They also said they couldn’t be sure the replacement part wouldn’t have the same issue. I did some research and found that GM has had this issue with 2019 - 2024 vehicles. Some customers reported that they were driving and almost got hit by other vehicles when theirs shut down. My car only had 18000 miles when this occurred. I no longer feel safe driving my car.

The Engine Power Reduced Sensor came on and the gas pedal was hard to push so we took the car to a Chevy Dealership. We were told the code po299 was showing and that the turbo needs to be replaced ($4000). This is a VERY common problem and Chevy even acknowledges that but they are doing nothing about it.

SERVICE BRAKES
This issue has happened to me twice now. Dec 19th 2024 I Driving on a highway at about 60mph, traffic slowed, I tried to stop and instantly had no brakes at all. There was a light that came on as I was applying the brakes, "service brake assist". Had it towed to a mechanic and they replaced the brake vacuum pump. We ordered this part from a Chevrolet dealership so we knew it was the proper part. Most recent was two days ago, Nov 10th 2025, NOT even a full year later. Driving about 55mph, tried to stop and no brakes again with the same service message. It is currently at the shop being repaired. The part is under warranty but of course labor isnt. Both times this happened, I had to drive over on to the shoulder to avoid causing an accident. Prior to this, there was no warning that there was anything wrong with the brakes. The only place that can confirm this issue is the mechanic shop as they are the ones doing the work. Attached is a copy of the receipt from the first time.

On Th, Nov 6 ~1700, the 25 Equinox EV being driven encountered an electric drive failure and brake failure, including friction brakes. This Equinox EV is essentially still brand new with 3900 miles and no accident history. The vehicle was driven off the EB SR 528 exit ramp to Narcoossee Rd in Orlando and driven to the stop light at the WB on ramp. After the light changed and began driving, the vehicle console reported an exception with drive assist. At this time the driver attempted to slow down to take stock of the situation and the vehicle accelerated, at which time the driver took their foot off the brake pedal and attempted to identify a place to take the vehicle off the roadways. Thankfully a stoplight at McCoy Rd was green and the driver continued through that light and while attempting to brake, the vehicle accelerated instead. The driver then coasted, maneuvering the vehicle was into the Vista Palms commercial center. The vehicle, unresponsive to braking, propelled through a stop sign into the Kohl's parking lot at which time the driver began looping around the lot until the weight of the vehicle brought the motion down. While the vehicle was stopped, it rotated through warning messages indicating..forward collision, brake assist is reduced, steering assist is reduced, then finally Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon. The vehicle was towed by AAA to AutoNation Chevrolet Airport in Orlando. Technicians found codes U1610 and U1639, and found K160 connecter unseated. It was reseated and greased. The concern is that this should have been locked and unable to be unseated. Is this an indication of manufacturing problem or operating problem? All braking was dysfunctional. How can we be certain that this was not a one off event?
