Vacuum pump for brake booster failed. Lost braking power. Caused debris to be injected in to engine. Caused camshaft failure. Dealership confirmed, and inspected. Check Engine light and Reduced Engine Power message at time of failure. Slight rear brake pulsation 1/2 hour before. I thought it was just moisture/rust on the rotor as the car had been in the body shop for 2 months following a deer collision.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH and attempting to make a left turn, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond, causing his wife to make the left turn at 40 MPH uphill. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated as his wife was driving uphill. The contact stated that his wife then pulled into a driveway and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that upon restarting the vehicle, several unknown warning lights illuminated temporarily however, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. Additionally, the alarm sounded. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure had occurred due to loss of communication with the electric brake system control module and the electronic brake control module. The dealer determined that the software was outdated and needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that he was concerned that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the premature failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100.

Was driving on the highway and the car lost power and shut down and wouldn’t start again. It was towed to a mechanic where I was told the timing jumped and I needed a new engine. I bought the car used in 2018 and not even 2 months after the car was burning oil the car started shaking and eventually stalled. At that point it was still cover under warranty

Had issue with it burning a TON of oil, solenoid ended up needing replaced. Replaced, and next day engine froze up and shot oil out of the back real seal, and now need replaced engine. Because the back real seal blew, is not being covered by my extended warranty, even though the damage was cause because of a covered part.

I was at a stop light, the light turned green and I proceeded to lift my foot off of the break giving the vehicle a moment to autostart, I pressed the accelerator, and the car started to make a sputtering sound and tremble terribly. The vehicle's engine shut down in the middle of traffic, no warning lights appeared on my dash board. The power of the vehicle was still on. I placed the car in park, then I turned the power off. I tried to restart the vehicle this time the vehicle continued to shake and sputter but it did not move when I placed the gear in Drive. I had to be pushed put of the road by the Police and then towed to the dealer. The service engineer at the Chevy Dealership was able to start the engine and take it for a test drive, the vehicle also shut done on him but also left him with no ability to use the breaks. He was unable to stop. Thankfully no one was in front of him or behind him he was able to have the vehicle towed back to the service bay. I was told that the break vacuum pump disintegrated and went into the engine cam shaft. That caused the engine to completely shut down. I believe this is a safety issue as no sensor or engine codes ever displayed and the dealership took 2weeks to diagnose what was wrong because they were not getting any codes displayed on their diagnostic equipment. There was no way for me to know this break vacuum pump was failing to be able to proactively replace it to prevent this serious malfunction from occurring. I could have been seriously injured and cause a horrible accident as I was headed to the highway that morning. I would like to be contacted in regard to this.

GM has long known about the oil consumption problem of the 2015 and settle a lawsuit for the 2013. Car issues including engine shutdowns and stalls, spark plug fouling, engine misfires, unexpected loss of power, vehicle “jerking”. Other people had the same issues included fires per blogs about the issues with the 2014-2015.

My car is a 2016 chevy equinox - the check engine light never came on and I was driving it home from the store when it started bucking, showing "power to engine low" error message and barely moved when pressing the gas. I got the car home and my husband was checking the car only to find I have no oil when I never received any warning. I have done research and have seen this is an issue for many chevy equinox owners who all experienced this with their cars. I just had an oil change completed a few months ago in early Sept/Late August with very minimal driving in the 4 month window as I was out of work for 2 of those months. I do believe this is a defect in the car due to the fact that I was out of oil so quickly PLUS no alert informing me that the oil was low prior to the issue with the vehicle. now it will not start and the engine appears to be trash now.

I was traveling the interstate I90/94 , merged to the exit ramp and found the brake pedal hard and unable to push to brake. I had to slide the car into neutral and use two feet on the brake pedal to slow down enough to make the corner at the end of the off ramp. All due to a faulty vacuum pump. The debris from the exploded vacuum pump were sent through the engine. And after having the car fixed it now uses about a quart of oil every 500 miles. Engine is shot! Seriously bad engineering design that will kill someone if it hasn't already. I am 5'11" and weigh 190 lbs. I estimate it took around 200-250 lbs of force to push the pedal to even start to slow. If I hadn't had over 40 years of driving experience, this would have ended in a catastrophic incident.

Vehicle started to make funny noise took to local repair shop and was informed it was the timing chain. Mechanic also told me he has been replacing quit a few on equinox lately. Called cheverlot for assistance after looking online and seeing there was a special bulletin issued a while back. The representative never informed me of it during our call nor did they acknowledge it was a problem. The Mechanic explained the dangers of it going out while driving and I think it's a pretty dangerous situation to have happen while driving. I was only informed of windshield wiper joint recall that I informed him I knew of already because mine went out while driving in the rain and had to go 2 days without wipers

Air charged cooler/ engine issues. I have a 2022 Chevy Equinox- purchased new in April 2022. When driving in heavy rain / humidity for length of time - I experience the car feeling like it is going to stall- not accelerating when pushing on the gas and jerking. Some times the engine light flashes when this occurs. Per the dealer it is due to an engine misfire - that is what the code shows. When this happens while I am driving (usually on the highway) I am terrified that I will be rear ended by another vehicle due to it slowing down - and the cars behind me have no warning/ brake lights alerting them that I am slowing down and not accelerating. From Sept 2022 to now, I have had the air charged cooler changed by the dealer twice - another time the dealer was not able to duplicate the same issue. November 2023-I had it to the dealer for the 4th time for the same issue- the solution per GM Bulletin [XXX] was to install a grill cover, which they have done. The problem with the grill cover is that I am responsible to install it and remove it depending on the weather/ temperature . Per the bulletin it needs to be on when raining - but removed if it is 85 degrees or higher and there is no clarification on what I should do if it is both raining and 85 outside. I do not know how this is safe for me to be having to stop the car and install or remove a part depending on the weather. I do not feel it is safe for me to have to stop or pull over on the side of the road / rest area or anywhere else to have to install or remove this. I am a single female [XXX] and am not comfortable with installing and removing this. The dealer did a one time courtesy demonstration of the installation and told me it is my responsibility to install or remove it from here on - depending on the temperature and weather. I drive 2 1/2 to 3 hours to work- leaving in the dark and returning in the dark. I feel my safety is at risk with the fix GM has given me. We were unaware of the oil consumption issue related to the 2010 Equinox. As a result we purchased one with less then 100 k miles, changed the oil, and sent my college bound daughter off with it. After driving just 4-5k miles in about 3-4 months the oil was very low and ruined the engine! Now we are facing an engine replacement if the vehicles is even worth investing that much more money.

Car feels like it is going to take off at a red light. Then it rumbles and cuts off at the light. I purchased car from US Auto Sales. DOWC paid PepBoys for multiple repairs for breaks rotors and the light that keeps coming on is service stabile track they got the light to cut off but the issue still persisted. They even changed all things dealing with the gas line. This car is still idling high at stop signs like it will take off on its own. And still cuts off at a red light. This is very unsafe and many drivers have almost run onto the back of me. I told US Auto Sales, DOWC, and PepBoys and they all put me back in the same vehicle after voicing my concerns about safety. Instead of putting me in a safer vehicle they ignored it. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle in November 2022
