I moved my car from the front of my home to the back and when I tried to shut off, the key broke off in the on position. I had to get pliers to remove the key. I had another key, so I didn't think much about it then. Then a few months later it happened again. They key was stuck in the on position and would not shut off. The key did not break off, so I had to let the car run. I had to get my nephew to come over and he had to disconnect the relay and disconnect the battery. We could not get the key turn back to the off position. I called the dealership, and they told me I would need to have it towed and they would need to take a look at it. I went on the internet to see if this was a common issue and it was, but none of the solutions would work for this make and model of my vehicle. You would need to have special tools to repair. I called my insurance to get a tow and even though I have roadside assistance, they said it would not be covered. So, I have to pay to have the car towed to the dealership which is 60+ miles from me. The tow was very expensive. The car was taken to the dealership, and they concluded that the ignition switch and column lock was worn out. During this time of the year the weather was hot, and I think that the extreme heat on the metal cylinder may have been a factor in the function of the ignition lock switch.

AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN
Vehicle would not shift, OBD2 code P037B "stuck in gear 6." Vehicle towed to a auto mechanic that said they spoke with VW dealer and confirmed it was a crack in the transmission and was undriveable. I have contacted VW who have said there are recalls for many transmissions of this Jetta but not for my VIN. I have also had issues with the clock spring (replaced) and an air bag sensor (malfunction light still on) and now the transmission. There are recalls for Hybrid Jettas of this year but apparently not for my VIN. It seems like a large coincidence and feels like it should be investigated, especially considering the other issues VW was investigated for at this time of production.

SERVICE BRAKES
I recently took in my 2021 VW Jetta to the dealership for a routine service visit. The car is 18 months old and has 24,000 miles on it. I constantly get a recurring loud squeaking brake noise when reversing the car after a cold start. It seems to be coming from the rear brakes. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was informed that they are aware of the issue but have no fix for it yet. Upon inspection of my brake rotors and pads, the front pads were fine with each having 12mm of pad remaining. The rear brakes however, were down to 4mm, with uneven wear noted by the service technician. The car is FWD and with the small amount of miles, along with the squeaky brake issue on cold starts while reversing and braking, I believe there is a caliper issue or perhaps the electronic parking brake is getting stuck somehow. The car is fully covered under a bumper to bumper warranty yet the dealership doesn’t want to investigate further, and insists the rear pads needs to be replaced as it’s normal. There is nothing normal about the rear brakes being 3x more worn than the front brakes, on a FWD car that only has 24k miles on it. I believe this is a larger issue that will affect more vehicles in the future.

Like MANY people have experienced, I was driving on the highway when the sunroof glass suddenly exploded. It was terrifying and the startled reaction could easily have caused a serious highway speed crash. There was no obvious reason for the failure of the glass but having shattered glass fall in my lap was scary.

SUSPENSION
Front end making a banging noise. Local car shop tells me the front Driver side STRUT COIL SPRING is broken and flopping around. Car steers, and drives ok.WHAT IF IT HAD BLOWN MY TIRE when it busted???? Have never seen one of these springs break myself. There are more reports on the internet about this with VW’S. A recall was issued on the 2019 and newer for the rear springs. Any before that year must not count?????

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, an abnormal fuel odor was detected, and the vehicle failed to start. Additionally, there was a puddle of fuel underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was a fuel leak coming from the fuel injector seal, and that the fuel rail and fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V648000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) had previously been performed. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

POWER TRAIN
The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the hybrid system fault message was displayed. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle and the hybrid system fault message was off however, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving to his residence with the warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the hybrid electric system was non-functional. The contact stated that he continued driving to his residence. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the dual clutch transmission to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V866000 (Power Train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and texted the contact that the failure occurred before the recall and would not be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 86,097.

AIR BAGS
On February 2, 2017, My car was stop in an intersection. A car coming in my direction swerved into my lane and hit me head on. The air bag was deployed, it exploded so violently that both of my hands were severly injured. There was a fracture in my right wrist. There was a laceration to the base of the thumb and my thumb finger almost fell off and required several stiches for my forefinger to be attached. The bones in my right arm was shattered into pieces and it required major surgery. My left arm requires a total of 4 surgeries. I have to undergo an eighteen (18) months of Physical Therapy for both my left and right hand. There was so much pain in my left arm and the doctor had to perfom an operation called "Proximal row carpectomy (PRC)". Proximal row carpectomy (PRC) is a motion-preserving treatment for the degenerated wrist. Three (3) very important bones in Proximal row carpectomy (PRC)surgery was removed. This surgery is done to alleviate (reduced) the pain in my arm. I was still lucky, fortunate that the car hit me in front. If my car was hit from behind, my upper body especially my head will be thrown forward and the explosion of the air bag would explode in my face and the xplosion could have killed me or break my neck. The exlposion of the air bag was very similar to the beirut explosion that was caused by ammonium nitrate which was sometimes used in the defected airbag. Very explosive. The air bag was supposed to protect me but in this case it caused tremedous damage to my both my left and right arm. After more than 5 years both of my hands have not fully recovered. It still hurts lifting some heavy object which I could easily lifted before the accident. I trully believe that the airbag is my car has a problem and it could be a Takata air bag that also need to be recalled. My neighbor’s teenage daughter is also driving the same year and model of my car and it always worry me to think what if the air bag is defected.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was driving on a active snowing highway at 7pm when an alert appeared on the dashboard to “check starter system” and “pull vehicle over…”. During this time im on the highway going about 6mph and everything electrical turned off including my headlights and windshield wipers turned off. I was able to activate my hazards and pull off the highway but due to the snow and everything electrical cutting off my windows fogged up and almost caused me to crash into a semi-truck. I have googled this issue and it seems to be very common for this specific vehicle.

Recently had the rear brake pads replaced at appx 30,000 miles under normal driving conditions. (suburban driving, no towing or any driving behavior that would accelerate excessive/irregular wear). Significantly, during the 5/5/2022 20,000 mile oil change the dealer noted the following:, "rear pads and rotors pads down to 2 on inner" The vehicle is equipped with a 6 speed manual transmission and standard electronic parking brake. Volkswagen customer service was contacted and responded that brakes were not covered under warranty.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The fuse that controls the exterior lights (tail, marker,etc.) and interior lights at first interment would blow/burn out. Sometimes after a few days or a few months for the past year. In the past few weeks the fuse blows immediately once replaced. The car was brought to a VW dealer a year ago who changed the fuse and ran a diagnostic. It was brought back 4-5 months later and they again changed the fuse and ran a diagnostic. The second time was not given a slip indicating it was was there for the service and was not charged. While I understand no charge there is no no proof of service. As the fuse controls all the lights the car is dark at night.

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the EPC light illuminated, indicating that there was an engine control malfunction, and the vehicle started shaking. The throttle became stiff. The contact veered off the highway and to the side of the road. The contact drove home with the hazard lights flashing. I bought the car October 1 2022 around October 15th it shut off without and warning while crossing over a intersection on November 19th I was on i95 north and it shut off again with no warning I got to the side of the highway and it started I got about a mile up the highway and it shut off a 3rd time this time it said error stop/start
