I was driving down the highway and my ac vents started blowing hot air, then my car started to putt like it wanted to stop, then thick smoke started coming out my AC vents filling my car to the point I could not see. I pulled over and my entire car was full of smoke and I began to choke as I put the car in park and crawled out my smoking car. Bystanders pulled over to help me and my car was smoking from the engine and back of car. The police and fire department were called and I was take to a local hospital by ambulance for smoke inhalation.

I am filing this formal complaint to request immediate NHTSA intervention regarding Nissan North America’s bad-faith denial of critical safety recall repairs on my 2023 Nissan Rogue. Both Nissan Consumer Affairs and my local Nissan dealership service department are actively misdiagnosing a severe, well-documented engine defect as a "secondary issue" to avoid their legal obligations under NHTSA Recall Campaigns 26V-080 and 26V-081. By forcing me to drive a vehicle that exhibits violent engine shaking and severe, abnormal mechanical noise, Nissan is placing my safety and the safety of the motoring public at immediate risk. They are insisting that I continue operating a compromised vehicle until a catastrophic, total engine failure occurs on the highway. Detailed Timeline of Events and Defect Manifestation June 2025 (Vehicle Under Factory Warranty): The vehicle began exhibiting abnormal, excessively loud engine noises. I presented the vehicle to the authorized Nissan dealership for diagnosis. The service department dismissed the issue, claiming they "could not replicate" the noise, and released the vehicle back to me without repair. I captured digital video and audio recordings of the defect at this time to preserve empirical evidence. February 2026: NHTSA and Nissan announced recalls 26V-080 and 26V-081 specifically targeting the 1.5L and 2.0L VC-Turbo engines for main bearing failure, which causes violent engine shaking, severe noise, knocking, and sudden loss of motive power. [XXX]: As the engine noises worsened and progressed into violent engine shaking, I brought the Rogue back to the dealership service department. They admitted the vehicle was shaking excessively but claimed it was a "secondary issue" caused by a failing Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Manufactured/dealership explicitly stated that because they did not yet find metal shavings in the oil pan, they would not authorize the recall remedy. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving an alert appeared on the dash stating engine malfunction. Speed was reduced instantly which was dangerous as I was driving at high speeds on the freeway with traffic behind me. The accelerator wouldn’t work and I had to immediately pull over.

- #11744739June 17, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, PARKING BRAKE:ELECTRICAL
When starting the car, the park light flashes on the dashboard and the electronic parking brake will not disengage. The brake will also not disengage if you switch into gear and try to start driving like it would if the electronics were working properly. There is a start error message displayed on the dashboard as well when the car is started: I had to turn the car off and on dozens of times before it resolved. A google search revealed this is happening to a lot of owners of the ‘23 rogues. One person needed a chip replaced. Others said the only way they could get the car to move was turning the car on and off, sometimes taking hours. I was stranded without being able to drive away.

- #11744536June 16, 2026VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR
The rear window completely exploded with no impact from anything. The vehicle was stationary and stopped at a stoplight when it sounded like a gunshot and the rear window completely exploded. There were cracks all over the entire rear window and the window quickly started to fall apart completely. This was dangerous because there was glass falling everywhere on the road and into the car. Now the car is open to the elements. Nissan will not cover this repair under warranty and the insurance will not pay to fix this issue without charging a deductible. Nissan dealership is charging $245 to even look at the vehicle. There is currently a class action lawsuit against Nissan for this issue with other Nissan Rogues for Nissan using glass that is too thin for the vehicle.

I have a 2022 Nissan Rogue SV that had an engine replaced due to a faulty head gasket in March of 2024 and my vehicle on 6/15/2026 had a rough idle of the engine and irregular RPM's which then led to the RPM's dropping to zero while in a stationary drivethru lane. The vehicle then showed a caution warning indicating to shift the car into Neutral. After getting the car towed to the dealership for diagnostics it was determined that the vehicle requires a new engine. The likely cause according to the service advisor was a failed head gasket, which was the same reason for the first engine replacement. Despite the fact the engine will be covered under warranty, the possibility of the engine failure occurring on the highway while traveling at a high rate of speed, and potentially stranding me on the highway with no warning is a high cause for concern given the vehicle would have went into limp mode, which limits the vehicle to less than 15 MPH.

After taking my 2023.5 Rogue S in for the recall repair (replace sensor and update ECM) I noticed soon after that a knock has started to appear. It is happening any time the engine is under load, especially at lower RPMs. I have changed where I get fuel and that has not resolved the issue, I got my oil change done about 2 weeks ago and the knock is still there

I was at work on 05/25/26 and when I got off work, I entered the car and shut the door and the back window shattered. After watching camera from my job, no one was near the car or drove by, but the changes in the window were notice on camera a couple of hours before I got off my shift.

Had to replace engine around 136000 and pay for it out of pocket. I am finding other people with the same model and year having this same issue This is what they said "verified cel was on. vehicle was running really bad, there was no coolant in the reservoir, i pulled spark plugs and inspected all the cylinders, cylinders 3 & 4 spark plugs were covered in fluid and were black. i used combustion checker to test coolant in cooling system and found there was combustion gases in the coolant. i then filled up coolant pressure tested while using borescope to check the cylinders, and i found cylinders 3 & 4 are actively leaking coolant from head gasket. there looks to be a gap between both cylinders like the head and or block is warped from over heating. will need engine replacement and transfer of all necessary parts"

June 8th, 2026 I was driving to work when my car began to have problems accelerating. My cars acceleration was inconsistent and would not allow for appropriate throttle response. After realizing this was not a fuel delivery problem I tried to come to a safe area to pull over in which I could not do so rounding a roundabout. After making it through the roundabout my cars acceleration was depleting fast. I pulled over as much as I could before I put the car in park and turned the engine off. After the engine was turned off I attempted to restart it. Upon restarting the vehicle began to shake violently as if the back tires were still in rotation and began making an awful noise. I turned the car off and called someone to come assist me. Moments later a random civilian operating under the name “bulldogs handyman and roadside assistance” pulled up behind me. He attempted to help me restart the car to understand what was going on. The car at this point could not turnover. He then asked me “are you out of gas” because visually my car was perfectly fine. I was indeed at half a tank. The man then plugged a code reader into my car and received the code A11P7. At this time a light finally went off on my dash board showing “check engine” symbol. We called Nissan due to the recent recall on my car and had it towed there. The Nissan dealership claims my EGR cooler failed resulting in coolant to enter my engine and overheat the engine causing it to fail. However, Nissan refuses to check the oil pan because the code specifically installed for the recall did not populate. Their diagnoses is plausible however, I just had a multi point inspection 4 months ago by this exact dealership. My cars mileage is 71,315 miles. All maintenance is up to date and I never had a coolant leak. I have had many people INCLUDING EMPLOYEES tell me about the EGR cooler failing and how it is a known problem for Nissan. The EGR cooler needs to be inspected in these models! They are defective.

Consumer Safety Complaint – 2023 Nissan Rogue Engine Failure & Denied Reimbursement I am submitting this complaint regarding a known manufacturing defect in my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV that resulted in progressive engine failure, significant out-of-pocket repair costs, and a subsequent denial of my reimbursement claim by Nissan Consumer Affairs. Vehicle Information: • Year/Make/Model: 2023 Nissan Rogue SV • Engine: 1.5L 3-Cylinder KR15DDT VC-Turbo Summary of Events: On July 22, 2025, I brought my vehicle to Precision Automotive and Transmission after experiencing symptoms consistent with the defect described under NHTSA Recalls 25V437 and 26V080. Repairs included CVT diagnostics ($95.00), CVT transmission service ($386.39), water pump replacement ($610.65), and a cooling system service ($259.95) — all cascading failures tied to the engine and transmission defect. On November 13, 2025, my vehicle was towed from my residence due to complete engine failure. A full engine replacement was required at an additional cost of approximately $5,958.22, plus a diagnostic fee of $95.00. Total out-of-pocket expenses: approximately $7,405.21. All repairs were completed prior to Nissan's official recall notification to owners, scheduled for March 27, 2026. Reimbursement Claim Denied: I submitted a formal reimbursement claim to Nissan Consumer Affairs. My claim was denied on the basis of an incorrect diagnostic code. I believe this denial is improper. The underlying failure — engine bearing degradation caused by the KR15DDT's lubrication deficiency — is precisely what these recalls address. Denying reimbursement on a technicality of code classification, while the physical failure is covered under the recall, is deceptive and harmful to consumers. I am not filing this complaint solely to recover my own losses. I am filing because this denial practice may affect thousands of other Nissan owners who experienced the same defect.

I own a 2025 Nissan Rogue, and the rear windshield shattered suddenly without any impact, collision, or contact with an object. This was not caused by an accident or misuse on my part. My insurance company is only offering coverage if I meet the deductible, but the repair cost is below that amount, which leaves me responsible for the full out-of-pocket expense. On top of that, I am being told my premium may increase if I file the repair through them, which is difficult to understand given that this was a spontaneous defect, not an at-fault incident. Other Nissan Rogue drivers have reported the same issue, which suggests this may be a known problem and should be treated as such.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal and shifting into park(P), the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact stated that the vehicle came to a complete stop upon engaging the parking brake and the CVT Service Soon warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to shift into park, and the "Unable to shift into park; engage the emergency brake warning message" displayed. The contact stated that the second incident occurred while her son was in the front passenger seat. The contact had walked away from the vehicle, and upon turning around due to her son alerting her that the vehicle was moving independently, the contact noticed that the vehicle accelerated independently, crashed into silver rebars, and came to a complete stop with the front wheels off the ground. The vehicle was revving during the incident. The contact mentioned her son heard a chime as the vehicle was moving. Several unknown warning lights illuminated. No Injury was sustained. No police report was filed. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnosis was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure would need to be investigated prior to a buyback. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

Less than 24 hours after the transmission issue was fixed, I was driving down the interstate with my speedometer registering 147 MPH. I immediately took the vehicle back to the dealership. While the vehicle was in "Park", the speedometer was reading 80 MPH. Technicians were unable to replicate the problem, and I'm stuck with a vehicle that I'm not sure registers an accurate speed.
