Was driving on the highway at 74 mph when the engine started knocking and smelled of smoke, no other warning symptoms and all routine maintenance have been performed timely, in fact on-time pul change was performed the day before. I safely exited the highway and when I came to a complete stop at the end of the off ramp the oil, engine _ battery light came on and engine died. I checked the oil - it was clean and full. Had to get towed to a shop. They said the rod in the 4th cylinder is the culprit and requires a new engine ($7,500). I've called the Hyundai dealer and am waiting to hear back. Cars mileage is 139k and otherwise in excellent condition.

I have Only 113186 miles on my Tucson.I started hearing a engine knock while driving the vehicle and then the vehicle started stalling out.The next day I took it to my mechanic. He tested everything then he drained my oil and found metal shavings from the rod bearing and told me the engine was no good.I changed the oil at regular intervals.I found out they have a recall on the 2017-2018 Tucson's with bad bearing issues. The engine is the same as mine the 2.0

Twice in the last nine months (roughly December 14, 2020 at 67,000 miles & 9/7/21 at 84,300 miles) I have been left stranded on the side of the highway due to what two different Hyundai dealerships call "complete engine failure", which requires the replacement of the entire engine. Ultimately, when I asked what a "complete engine failure" entailed, the dealerships both told me there were metal flakes throughout my engine and that the engine had to be replaced. Both times the symptoms were as follows: loss of acceleration and a horrible ticking noise. The gas pedal is pushed to the floor and the car will not move forward. "Pop" or "Knock" and the engine starts smoking. No check engine light. No check oil pressure light. This is all within about 2 minutes. Moving from 65mph to 0 in a matter of 90 seconds without braking, when you have a semi truck behind you is terrifying. You put your hazards on immediately, pull over as soon as possible, and pray that nobody hits you. You try to stop and your brakes don't seem to be doing their job but you are finally able to stop. Once you've pulled over and the car stops smoking, you pop the hood. Immediately you notice the dipstick for the oil is about halfway out of the engine and oil has exploded everywhere under the hood. I purchased the car 14 months ago and so far, four of those months it has been undriveable due to complete engine failure, requiring replacement and fighting with Hyundai to do the right thing and repair it, which they refuse to do. Even when there is an active campaign (Campaign 966) to update the software to trigger a warning light. The campaign was issued 3/30/21 & I just received notification via first class presorted mail to have the software updated on 9/11/21. They say they won't make the repairs because it is out of warranty. I call lies. This is a direct result of failing to notify me in a timely manner to get the software update that would have at least supposedly triggered a warning light.

I took my 2016 Tucson to the Myrtle Beach Sc dealership for the recall on the ABS. First thing that happened they called me in the back and told me that they added oil (which I checked when I got home and was overfilled) and that they put in 2 new air filters. They did all this before asking me. So they tried to get me to pay $72 each for the air filters and $16 for the oil and of course I refused. Within days the check bsd system light and all other lights have come on. When I’m at a stop signs it shuts off. I have started the vehicle one morning to warm the engine up and I go back and thence hole is off with the dashboard lights on. My vehicle has even stop and cut off while in traffic while taking my daughter to school. The RPM and the AC stops working when these lights come on and I can only drive the vehicle at a certain speed. I don’t know if by “fixing” the ABS caused this issue or what but my vehicle was driving fine before I went to that dealership. I contacted the dealership asked for a manager and of course one was not available but I was told that they would look at my vehicle for $110. And I still haven’t heard from a manager. So disappointed in Hyundai!!!

The doors on the passenger side of the car will not open from the outside or inside. My car was not hit. I have been in no accidents, but the just do not open anymore. My driver side door takes two attempts before it opens. The only door that works like it should is the back-seat driver side door. No warnings. This happened months ago, but I was out of warranty. The dealership service department told me $350 per door to repair. Found that hundreds of owner of this make/model experience the same. Totally unsafe that only 1 of 4 doors function properly.

This vehicle is under recall for its antilock braking system. I brought the vehicle to a dealership on 10 April for the repair. They didn't have the necessary parts in stock. When I called back two months later. Still no parts. It's now been more than 5 months. Which I believe to be proof that the dealership is "unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable time." Instead of responding to calls, Jim Ellis Hyundai of Atlanta (5785 Peachtree Blvd, Atlanta, GA 30341) puts me on hold indefinitely. I'd really like to be able to use my garage again.

The vehicle issue began with needing an engine check light. Searched for a recall but there wasn't any engine recalls online for my VIN number. Took the car to the dealer for a recall and they did the recall on some electrical wire that was separate from the engine issue but they just overlooked the engine check light on my dashboard and made no mention of it. They actually bypassed it and so I thought maybe they fixed the issue since the light isn't present anymore. However the engine light came and the problem developed into a transmission failure. Upon pressing the gas pedal, the vehicle wouldn't run over 30 miles per hour and could only go up to 4 rpms.. I took the car to the mechanic and he replaced the transmission and he said that the root cause was a result of a burnt gasket. So we had that replace also.. After spending $5000 in repairs, the motor or the engine completely overheated and now the car is just a potato. Another issue is the doors on my car and not opening anymore. I have to manually ply them open by pulling on some mechanical wiring inside the door. Why do I have to pay for bad engineering? This is an obvious risk.

I had my car repaired due to an open recall in April. I got in my car yesterday and while driving the car shut off and there seemed to be a liquid leaking from under the car. I had the car towed to Key Hyundai of Milford where the recall work in addition to other work was done. I am really worried because I could have gotten hurt if other cars where nearby. Also the dealership is saying it may take up to 2 weeks for them to inspect my vehicle. I need suggestions as to my best course of action.

The contact owned a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. The contact owns a 60 MPH, the contact heard a loud pop noise and from the outside of the vehicle and the vehicle began to lose motive power and smoke coming from the front of the hood. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and open the hood and saw fire coming from the engine. The contact back up and waited for police to come out to assist. The fire extinguished on its own. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was later deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2019 Tucson 74165 miles. While driving on the highway the engine began to knock, and as the traffic came to a stop the car stalled and the oil and battery light came on. Before that the lights never came on. I got it to the shoulder and checked the oil, it was dry with no leaks on the outside of the engine. Towed to my mechanic and he said total engine failure. Hyundai discontinued this motor and Jasper a leading engine manufacturer will not produce after market because they cannot warranty it for three years or hundred thousand miles. This will become a recall as this model year gets higher milage, and Hyundai knows it.

Both of my rear doors will not open. It started with the rear passenger side door and as of two days ago now my rear driver side door will not open either. I am also having some problems with my driver door, sometimes it won’t open until the second try. I searched online and this seems to be a common problem. This is a safety concern, I am not sure how there isn’t a recall for this.

My vehicle had just over 69,000 miles and the engine seized while I was driving. The engine had to be replaced. This notification is a FYI, since Hyundai (from my understanding) is having motor problems in other models.

My car was purchased brand new in November of 2017. It has 71k mikes on it and has been regularly maintained. I began To notice around 50k miles that the oil was brining at an accelerated amount. My car required oil before the designated 5k miles and it would begin “clicking” which alerted me to this issue. September 17, 2021 I was Driving and my vehicle failed to accelerate and began making noises that resembled the oil issue. My car had a full synthetic oil change less than 3k miles ago and by the time I pulled Into my driveway the car stalled. Checked oil and it was low. Added 3 quarts of oil on 9/17/21 and left it to sit. 9/18/21 car started and was driven to car wash and was sitting idle for approximately 45 minutes and on drive home, stalled and had to have oil added again. No leaks were present at anytime and no smoke. Went to dealership where I purchased vehicle and was told they would need to do oil consumption test but that would require me driving it 1k miles up to three times. I explained that my vehicle was breaking down and I was Fearful to drive it. In fact I bought A new car on 9/18/21 and have to get this car fixed to sell. Dealership said this is a known problem and no other way to assess than for me to drive the car the 1k miles and test it. It is still under warranty. I was also informed of an ABS issue that they can fix at same time. While all of these issues are going on, no check engine light or any other diagnostic symbol appears. This makes it hard to even catch before getting to the point of stalled engine. This can be a danger to myself, family and others when car stalls on major highway.

Back rear doors do not unlock. No matter how many times you press the unlock button they just do not unlock. Nothing has been done to the doors or just started out of no where. This is a huge safety problem. If there is a crash or emergency there's no way for the back doors to open. It started with one door and now the second is doing the same thing. You have to either push the door in trying to get in or pull the door towards you if your trying to get out. I looked into this and there are several other complaints about the same thing.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming oil. The contact stated while her daughter was driving approximately 40 MPH, the RPM increased from 2,000 to 3,000 RPM. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer and diagnosed that an oil change was needed, and the PCV valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. Additionally, while her daughter was driving the vehicle hesitated and failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer and it was determined that an oil consumption test needed to be performed. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 41,580.

Once my car door is unlocked from the outside it WILL NOT open! My son also owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson and the SAME thing is happening. I have been hearing of this happening for many, many more Hyundai owners. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE as one is unable to get into the car or get out of the car. This could pose a risk in the event that my granddaughter is stuck in the car under dangerous circumstances or that I am or if someone with a physical limitation is in the car...needing to quickly exit the car OR even to quickly gain entrance to the car. I have read other owners' posts about the blasé, even bored, responses from Hyundai and that just diagnosing the issue costs around $100. Also, even if the car is still in warranty and the item is replaced, one still has to pay for labor! It will also cost around $4000 to get all 4 doors repaired. RIDICULOUS!! While this is a major inconvenience, it also puts the driver and passengers in DANGEROUS risk of injury just to get out of the car! Hyundai HAS AN OBLIGATION TO MAKE THEIR VEHICLES SAFE. This should be a safety recall and 100% covered by Hyundai. Thank you

The vehicle is slow to accelerate on and doesn’t change gears quickly, often stays in a neutral mode which doesn’t allow acceleration. Vehicle doesn’t move when gas is pressed which can cause a major issue when driving on the roads. It is very dangerous and I believe my vehicle should be included in the August 29, 2016 recall.
