I am experiencing an electrical malfunction with the driver-side door controls and side mirrors on my 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited. The buttons on the driver’s door panel intermittently stop responding, and the lights on the panel flicker. At the same time, the side mirrors move up and down randomly, without any input from me. This issue occurs while the vehicle is both stationary and in motion. This malfunction affects the visibility and safe operation of the vehicle, as it can disrupt mirror adjustments while driving. I am concerned that this could be a potential safety hazard, especially at night or in high-traffic situations. I have researched online and found that other Hyundai owners have reported similar electrical issues with door controls and mirrors in recent models. I would like the NHTSA to investigate whether this is a widespread issue and determine if Hyundai needs to issue a recall or a technical service bulletin (TSB) to address this safety concern.

A semi truck passed me from the opposite direction and caused a gust of wind to be generated diagonally across the car. Both of us were traveling at highway speeds. The gust of wind caused the undercarriage retainers\clips to completely fail. The undercarriage folded back on itself and was pinned on both sides against each tire beneath the car. On the left side, the tire tore part of the undercarriage off as if it had came between the tire and the pavement. I believe this has the potential to cause a loss of control given ideal circumstances. Luckily, neither tire failed and I was able to safely pull to the side of the road to zip tie the undercarriage in place. However, part of the wheel well was shredded.

On 5 separate occasions the car has shut itself off while driving. After the first 2 times the car was taken to the dealership where they found nothing wrong and told us to replace the battery. The battery was replaced by the dealer and within the next two weeks the car shut itself off while driving 3 more times. The car will always start back up again right away. This is a very dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was a loud sound coming from the rear end underneath the floorboard like a part slamming on the undercarriage of the vehicle. The contact stated that the fuel gauge suddenly indicated that the fuel tank was EMPTY. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the gas valve and electronic control unit (ECU) had failed. The contact stated that the gas valve was replaced, and the electronic control unit (ECU) was updated. After receiving the repair, the contact noticed that while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle downshifted before shifting to the desired gear and accelerating. The failure was most persistent while driving uphill. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, All Star Hyundai (3950 Century Ct, Pittsburg, CA 94565) who was unable to diagnose the vehicle due to not having the tool necessary to detach the fuel tank. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer, San Leandro Hyundai a Carnamic Car Center (1066 Marina Blvd, San Leandro, CA 94577) who diagnosed that the pressure valve was swollen and the entire fuel tank and pressure valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Due to the inconsistency of diagnostic results, the contact decided to take the vehicle to another dealer, Fremont Hyundai (43690 Auto Mall Cir, Fremont, CA 94538) who diagnosed that the pressure valve was swollen but had not diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced due to not finding a failure with the fuel tank. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately failure mileage was 75,000.

Good afternoon. My issue is related to an existing recall that Hyundai Motor sent to me back during the beginning of January 2025 for a gas valve, tank inspection (replaced if necessary.) and ECU computer update. I've been to a total of 4 Hyundai Dealers and none of them have been consistent with this recall. The first Dealer is "Future Hyundai" in Concord, California. Initially, I'd took my car there for both recall and sound coming from the gas tank and my fuel level dropping. I was told by a service advisor by the name of Hayley, that it would cost a diagnostic fee to locate the issue. I didn't have the fees. But, seeing that the gas tank was part of the equation. It was free. The gas tank inspection was never done. I was told by Hayley that the fuel valve was replaced. But they mechanics only done a quick visual. I wasn't reassured that my issue was resolved. So I'd took it to a another Hyundai Dealer. This dealer told me that part of the procedure is to take off the tank and inspect it. I didn't get that far because I was told that a tool that was used is used to take off the tank was broken. A bleeder tool. Which doesn't make sense, because the tool is used for Bleeding out air from the fuel system. "Allstar Hyundai." The last two of the 4 dealers, "San Leandro Hyundai" and "Freemont Hyundai", told me that my fuel pressure hose in my gas tank and had swelled up. San Leandro dealer told me that my gas tank expanded. But the "Freemont Dealer" only mentioned the fuel hose. But never mentioned the gas tank. But decided to add it anyways. None of these dealers have been consistent regarding the recall. "Freemont Hyundai", the last of the 4, the service man told me that my tank is available. But his story changed from the time that I can get the job done 4 times. To having to have my car for two days before they can order the part. He'd order the parts, verified to me, when I was at my appointment. But now that conversation changed.

I live northern suburbs of Illinois. I was backing out of a parking spot when I couldn’t switch gears from Reverse to Drive. My car showed flashing lights and said system malfunction and service immediately. I had to put the safety brake and turn of my car. It took a couple minutes to reset and turn on my car for me to move it.

- #11639354January 29, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Was driving in reverse out of garage and ABS brakes were applied like I hit a patch of ice stopping the car. Released when applied pressure to brake. Then while on highway going 60 miles an hour the emergency brake system went on for no reason applying pressure and red light came on the dash with a left facing arrow. System released within a few seconds but scared me and I still have to drive this car on highway.

2023 Sonata N-Line, complete loss of power while driving on seven (7) occasions over the past year. In all cases above 60mph creating a dangerous condition to myself and fellow drivers while attempting to pull to the side of the road while rapidly losing speed. In all seven (7) cases, the DTC code is P065312. I have asked the dealership to note the recurring issue in my service records and I have reached out to Hyundai, mostly so that if I am involved in a serious accident because of this issue, there is a paper trail for legal purposes. The dealership folks are nice but basically unless the car rolls into the dealership with smoke pouring out of the engine, they want to charge a diagnostics fee and keep the car for multiple days which isn't helpful because like most, I need the car and the issue is extremely sporadic. It is disappointing and I hope Hyundai takes note and provides remedy for the issue sooner rather than later as this is my sixth (6th) Hyundai vehicle and really do like the car otherwise. All incidents below: 01/23/2025 - 9531 miles 01/20/205 - 9128 miles 12/15/2024 - 5500 miles 12/13/2024 - 5374 miles 11/22/2024 - 2409 miles 01/12/2024 - 568 miles 01/08/2024 - 554 miles

- #11637870January 23, 2025EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The automatic high beams feature seems to work through the camera by the rearview mirror. But the issue is when this camera is blocked, all of the safety systems that use the camera will be disabled as they normally will be since the camera cannot see, but the automatic high beams function will still stay on, the indicator light for it will be green meaning that the system is operating normally. As a result of this, the automatic high beam system keeps the high beams on at ALL times because it thinks that it is dark enough because it doesn’t see any light through the camera. This could potentially increase the risk of a crash because the driver may not realize that the high beams are NOT turning off when approaching another vehicle or when a vehicle is coming the opposite direction, which can blind other drivers on the road. This needs a recall to resolve this problem.

I was driving into work on a major road (about 45 mph) when my 2023 Hyundai Sonata stopped accelerating and my engine gave out. Initially I thought I was accidentally pressing on my break pedal but when I realized I wasn’t pressing the break, I had just enough time to turn on my hazards and get out of traffic and onto the shoulder of the road. I was stuck between a main exit and the major road. My battery, oil, and engine lights came on (no service lights had been on prior to this incident) and my car was just very slowly rolling before it automatically engaged my parking break - which makes me fearful of what would have happened if I had still been in busy traffic. I could gotten very badly rear-ended. My car only has just over 5600 miles and I never had any issues with it before and kept up with the general maintenance. I attempted to restart my car to no avail and about 30 minutes later I was able to restart my car but there was a very strong vapor smell in the cabin of my car. I got my car towed to a dealership and was informed one of my fuel injectors was misfiring/gone bad - similar to many other incidents on this site. I asked the dealership if they were able to view the state of my other fuel injectors and was told they were unable to do that, so I am unsure if other fuel injectors will go bad in the future.

My vehicles speedometer is always reading 1-4 mph faster than the actual speed I am driving at. For example cars speedometer would read 67 but only actually going 63. I’ve noticed it’s always 1mph off but whenever driving the car and turning it off to say get gas and turn right back on, the speedometer will begging reading 3-4 mph faster until leaving the car off for a few hours then it would go back to only reading 1mph faster again.

2 years after purchasing a new vehicle, the transmission began to pop and cause the car to jerk upon a cold start, RPM would increase but the speedometer would not go over 20mph. There were no error messages or alerts. I reported it several times, and the dealership technicians could not duplicate the issue and stated that the car was driving as it was designed even after providing video proof. They were later able to partially replicate the issue when the car popped and jerked after a cold start and then replaced the transmission, however, it did not resolve the issue. 1 month after the repair the car started having the same issues. After several trips to the service department, they have still been unable to duplicate the issue even with recent video proof. Based on how the technicians enter notes, the manufacturer refuses to pursue any alternative method for figuring out what is going on. This is risky because my car, upon starting cannot be safely driven and the car will shutter upon stopping at lights sometimes.

Twice within the first 26k miles i had 2 individual fuel injectors go bad. Both times my check engine light came on in the middle of driving, and then my car would no longer increase in speed and left me stranded on the road. Luckily, i was able to pull over to the side of the road. The random malfunction of the vehicle could’ve caused an accident or put my life, as well as the drivers on the road, in danger. When my vehicle arrived at the dealership, i was told that it was “because of the gas i was putting in my car”. I have never had any problems with any other vehicle when using the same gas, and have never heard of it from anyone else except from people with the same make and model as me. The dealership refused to replace the other 2 remaining fuel injectors because “they aren’t in need of repair” but acknowledged that I will just have to wait until the other 2 fuel injectors go bad and possibly be stranded in the middle of the road again. When picking up my vehicle after the seconds repair, I was told that my timing cover was leaking oil and that was repaired as well. When asked how that happened, the service center told me it was a factory malfunction. The first incident where Cylinder 2 went bad was on 12/27/2023 at 13,143 miles The second incident where Cylinder 3 went bad as well as the leaking timing cover was on 12/2/2024 at 25,890 miles

Car leaked oil multiple times. First time they said it was a faulty drain plug then after a few months it kept leaking. Took it back to the dealership and they said the gasket around the oil pan was faulty causing the leak and needed replaced.
