I took my vehicle in for the safety recall due to an expanding fuel tank on 08/03/2026. I received my vehicle back on 8/12/2026. Hyundai performed an improper repair on the vehicle that will not correct the fuel tank expansion. They replaced the same check valve that was replaced last time I brought the vehicle in for recall on 11/20/2024 repair order # 107221 at Jones Hyundai of Belair. This valve did not and will not correct the fuel tank expansion issue. The expansion issue is caused by fuel getting past the check valve and entering the purge control system. The correct repair is to replace the fuel tank and the purge control system, as the check valve has already allowed fuel to bypass it and enter the system causing the expansion issue. . Replacing the valve that failed & allowed fuel into the system & caused the tank to expand will not correct the issue caused by the failed valve. My fuel tank has not decompressed. I still have the same problem I brought the vehicle in for because the repair Hyundai advised NHTSA on was NOT performed.

The entire dash cluster including the radio display cuts off and back on while driving. The only way I can describe it, is that the car seems to act like it was turned off then back on again. Initial lights when you start the car come on, seatbelt lights, initial startup dash lights, headlight indicator, headlights, radio, drive setting, everything turns off and back on while driving. Lasts for anywhere from 5-15 seconds. this has been going on for over a year now and the dealership has been made aware and have attempted to recreate the incident without success. It doesn't happen with any one way of driving, it happens at random times and so quickly, no photo evidence is able to be obtained. This most recent incident I did have a dashcam installed and it powered off and back on as it does when the vehicle is turned on and off. A different situation that my car has been having that is unable to be recreated is that the windows will lock up and not go down as well as when this happens the doors either remain locked unable to be unlocked or don't lock at all. This has also been reported to the dealership and they held my vehicle for a week attempting to recreate it without success even though I have multiple video evidence of this occurrence. I do not have pictures, but do have videos and it will not let me upload videos.

The Left blinker switch keeps going in and out, working about 50% of the time. Both the light and the blinker sound do not turn on. When getting it checked out at an auto repair shop, the maintenance tech said this was more and more common for 2021 sonatas and it was not due to anything I did. It was a multifunction switch problem.

I own a 2023 Hyundai Sonata SEL. Over approximately three years, the vehicle experienced four separate incidents involving sudden loss of engine power and recurring fuel injector/powertrain problems. Three of these incidents occurred while the vehicle was being driven on interstate highways, creating serious safety concerns. The first incident occurred on XXX, on [XXX] [XXX]. My daughter was driving the vehicle at the time when it suddenly lost power while traveling on the interstate. She had to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder under unsafe traffic conditions. The second incident occurred on XXX, on [XXX] near [XXX]. I was driving the vehicle when it again experienced sudden loss of power while traveling at highway speed. The third incident occurred on XXX, in [XXX]. The vehicle experienced another significant power-loss event and required roadside assistance. The fourth incident occurred on XXX, on [XXX]. The vehicle again experienced a sudden loss of engine power while I was driving on the highway. Despite multiple repair attempts, including repairs related to the fuel injectors, the same or substantially similar power-loss problem continued to recur. Because the vehicle has repeatedly lost engine power while being driven, including multiple incidents at interstate highway speeds, I believe this recurring condition presents a serious safety risk. I am reporting these incidents so NHTSA can evaluate whether this may represent a broader safety-related defect affecting this vehicle model. The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the fuel gauge indicated that the tank was half full. The contact stated that the gauge erroneously indicated that the tank was empty, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the gas station, and while attempting to refuel the vehicle, the fuel did not go into the tank. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed fuel system and a failed fuel tank. The contact was informed that the fuel system and fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the failure was associated with the unrepaired recall. The contact was informed that the vehicle was a fire risk. In addition, the contact was informed that there was a hole in the fuel tank that caused the fuel to leak out of the fuel tank. The contact was informed that the parts were ordered to repair the vehicle. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V796000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,200.

RECALL REMEDY FAILURE AND MANUFACTURER COERCION My Certified Pre-Owned 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited has been held completely out of service at an authorized Hyundai facility since June 2, 2026, due to severe fuel tank expansion under active NHTSA Safety Recall 25V-796 (Hyundai Campaign 286).The dealership confirmed that the defective expanding plastic fuel tank ballooned with enough force to structurally warp and buckle the unibody center floor pan and frame rails. Rather than providing a safe, timely remedy under federal recall guidelines, Hyundai Corporate and the dealership are attempting to coerce me into an unfair, non-statutory "voluntary trade-in" that simply pays off my remaining loan balance ($22,000) while completely wiping out the $9,000 in cash equity ($3,000 down payment and $6,000 in monthly payments) I have invested into the car. Upon rejecting this predatory trade-in offer, the manufacturer immediately threatened an additional 6 to 8-week delay to attempt a massive structural frame and unibody pull, which would bring the total out-of-service time to over 90 to 110 cumulative days. Furthermore, the dealership is actively withholding the internal diagnostic write-ups and structural alignment prints from me. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this recall remedy failure. Hyundai is using extreme delays (90+ days) and structural frame threats to force consumers to abandon their financial equity rather than issuing lawful, purchase-price repurchases for vehicles deemed structurally unsafe due to a manufacturing defect. I can't provide any documents as they have refused being able to provide me with any. Was told I would be emailed a copy from the dealership several times and they never end up sending over any information.

I was traveling along [XXX]. This is a dangerous road it has hills and curves. I was driving my 2024 Hyundai Sonata, where all of a sudden headlights went off and the infotainment center went off I couldn’t see anything on the road. Luckily I was right by a gas station (Circle K). This isn’t the first time this has happened with this car. Three different times, I was on the express way and almost crashed because the exterior lights and headlights shut off while driving.I couldn’t see a thing and I drifted off the road. I thought I was dead I literally saw my life flash before my eyes. I’m honestly scared to drive this car at night. The driver's power seat drive cable on the left-hand track rail snapped internally. The motor only advances the right side, causing the seat to twist violently to the left and jam. This mechanical failure occurred prematurely at 9,000 miles. Because the seat framework is structurally compromised and twisting out of alignment, it poses a severe occupant safety hazard in a collision. And interferes with positioning the seat to operate the vehicle safely. The dealer has inspected the complaint and was able to reproduce the complaint. But did not cover it under warranty. There where no warning signs before the premature failure.

1. Component Failed: Panoramic Sunroof Glass Assembly (Structure / Visibility / Glass). Details: While traveling at highway speed on the freeway, the panoramic sunroof glass spontaneously exploded outward without warning or impact from any foreign object. Inspection: I have not had the vehicle repaired yet so it is currently available. I also took a picture of it. 2. Safety Risk: The sudden, loud explosion (sounding like a gunshot) at freeway speeds caused immediate driver distraction and severe disorientation. Shattered tempered glass was mostly restricted from the cabin by the curtain barrier but some rained down into the passenger cabin. Most blew backward onto the highway, posing a major hazard to occupants as well as trailing motorists. Furthermore, this is a recurring defect in our household: my wife experienced an identical spontaneous sunroof explosion on her 2024 Hyundai Palisade, demonstrating a pattern of hazardous glass failures across multiple late-model Hyundai vehicles. 3. Reproduced or confirmed: I have not had it inspected by anyone. I am awaiting quotes for repairs. I have taken a picture of the vehicle that has not been driven since the incident. 4. Inspection: No one else has inspected it. I have a picture and can take more as needed. Hoping to not have to drive it until I take it to a shop for repairs. It has been reported to a dealership, but they did not seem too concerned or interested in helping. They insisted that they would not give a repair quote until I drove it the 20 miles for them to inspect. 5. Any Warning: No warning. There were no warning lights, abnormal noises, visible cracks, or previous symptoms prior to the sudden explosion. The failure occurred completely spontaneously under normal highway driving conditions.
