I have a Hyundai 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. I parked the car in the middle of my cement driveway. I went into my home for a moment to get my Stanley water bottle. When I walked back to the car, the engine compartment was on fire. I had 2 fire extinguishers and attempted to put out the fire by to no avail. My daughter immediately called 911 to report the fire. The fire department came and it took about 8-10 fireman to put the fire under control. I have owned all types of cars for the past 40-years. I have never seen a car go up in flames and burn to the ground in about one minute. Had I parked my car in the garage my entire house would have burn down while potentially killing my entire family. I called my insurance company (Geico) to advise them of the fire and asked them to contact Hyundai about the matter. Geico said its not their responsibility. I'm having difficulty contacting Hyundai to report this serious fire before some other family gets killed. I never was notified about any type of dangerous recall with the entire car burning down. I will try to contact Hyundai again tomorrow morning (XXX). Please help me with this matter as Hyundai must be held accountable for this fire almost killing my entire family. More importantly I wish to help prevent a similar situation for another family in the future. Thank You, [XXX] [XXX] or [XXX] ) INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My Hyundai Santa Fe’s engine blew up while I was driving it and everything shut down without warning. I was stuck in the middle of a busy 4 way stop until I was pushed into a parking lot so I could get towed. There was no warning lights such as oil, engine lights, no sensors what so ever!!! It had begun burning oil and I made an appointment to get it checked but the oil was not low this time. I was told that the 3.3/6 cylinders engine isn’t in the recall list and is out of warranty at 123,000 miles so they won’t help replace the engine!! This is a $40000 vehicle!!! I’ve looked online and from what I’ve read there are many many people suffering the same issue with this engine but it’s not part of the class action lawsuit. PLEASE PLEASE HELP. I cannot afford a new engine or a new car.

The car started making a very loud knocking noise while driving and became un-drivable due to the engine knocking and sputtering. Safety was compromised due to not being able to safely drive the vehicle the appropriate speed as this began suddenly. The car was taken to the dealership where the determined that it had rod bearing failure and the engine needed replaced. There is a recall for the same make, model, and year of the car, but the VIN number is different. The recall that is out for other VIN of the same car and engine states that there is rod bearing failure due to a faulty crankshaft. This has been confirmed by the dealership. There were no warning lights or indications that the car was not in proper mechanical shape prior to the issue. The dealership and corporate are unwilling to work with us to have this issue repaired under the recall, even though it is the same issue, since it is 17,000 miles over the warranty and that the recall “does not affect our VIN number.” The engine that the car needs is not available unless it is a used engine as there are so many issues with said engine, which then makes the engine extremely expensive and difficult to locate.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that on six occasions over 12 months, the vehicle overheated while driving at various speeds. Additionally, the contact observed white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe on the rear passenger’s side and the front of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated during the last failure. The contact stated that on several occasions the vehicle was taken to the residence, and on other occasions, the vehicle was towed to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the thermostat housing and radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred several times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

I was driving the vehicle on the left lane of the freeway and the acceleration suddenly gave out. The car began to slow even when I pushed on the gas. Heat gage was fine and no lights went on. I quickly got over 4 lanes of traffic to the next exit and was able to pull over to the side of the road. White smoke began to billow out of the hood on the offramp and all the emergency light indicators came on at once. I turned the car off and the smoke turned black. I popped the hood and flames leapt out from under the hood. I jump out of the car and ran, leaving everything behind. I got safety away from the car and called 911. All of this happened within 2 minutes of losing acceleration. I typically have my two children in car seats in the car for school drop off and, [XXX] , they weren't with me. The fire overtook the front quickly and spread to the main cabin. By the time the fire department arrived (appx. 5-7 min) the car was completely engulfed. Nothing was salvaged. There is a fire report with the fire department. The police were not called. The car had gone through a full inspection and oil change one month prior and had no warning signs or issues. I lost a number of things in the car, including my purse, work items, kid's items, car seats, etc. Just after the incident, I developed a cough and severe headache that lasted two days. I also twisted my knee while running away, exacerbating an old injury. I am also dealing with acute mental health symptoms and am seeing a psychologist. I have not yet returned to work due to brain fog and exhaustion. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Purchased this car new from Crain Hyundai, Conway AR, on 4/1/2024. On 4/3 we called dealer because Bluelink reported 13 maintenance critical issues needed immediate service. Took the vehicle to dealer on 4/4. They worked on vehicle, said they fixed issue and notices would disappear over night. Issues did not, so 4/5 dealer had vehicle picked up, loaner left, and they would fix in 2 days. Issues still not fixed on 4/8. They have no idea how to fix and they want us to accept vehicle as-is. Was told this morning by dealer staff that there has been multiple occurrence of this issue and not fixed.

Engine light came on while driving and vehicle began to malfunction with bogging and little power to move the vehicle properly. Vehicle was towed to Hyundai dealership for diagnostics. Determining that there is rod bearing failure in the motor. Contacted Hyundai corporate who denied warranty claim citing I did not properly maintain the vehicle per owners manual although they were provided with records of proper maintenance, however it was disregarded by Hyundai warranty people as proper maintenance. I have contacted BBB and PA Attorney General for assistance but to no avail. There are countless others with the same exact issues where Hyundai Motor America is denying warranty claims for identical mechanical motor issues.

While driving engine began to sputter and power ceased, stranding my wife on a busy highway in the dark. Engine suffered 2 out of 4 cylinders failure on the highway, engine is dead. Dealership quoted $18,000 all told to fix the damages. Routine maintenance performed and on top of that, constant topping off of oil for a bad oil consumption issue. Hyundai refused to warranty or help at all in any way even after stating over the phone that it has been a known defect for some time and should be covered. Hyundai has left me with a dead car, no help to fix it or replace it and a loan still to pay off.
