Engine has serious recall that I was not made aware of during purchase. My car has been burning oil and the engine has been on. I've taken out to several local mechanics who said "these model Hyundai's burn oil once they are over 100,000 miles" and that I would just need more frequent oil changes. I was also told the engine light was either an old code being thrown, or the pump valve, but nothing to worry about because it really only effects gas milage. My engine went out and I had to get it towed to another mechanic, who upon seeing the car, knew it had an engine recall and could hear a distinctive knock in the engine due to a failing rod bearing. Upon Hyundai's request, we towed it to a dealership to have them inspect it. They agree it's the engine that's bad, but since a "knock sensor" was never installed by the previous owner, they say they are not liable to cover the repair, and that since the recall is "public knowledge", it was my responsibility to find out. If you go onto the NHTSA.gov website, and type in my VIN number, the information says "0 unrepaired recalls", therefore making it impossible for me to have known about the recall without Hyundai letting me know, which they didn't.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 22 MPH, the vehicle struck a pot-hole which caused the driver seat to move out of place. The contact stated that while accelerating, the front driver seat would shift backward and while shifted into reverse the seat would move forward. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat rail was damaged and the seat rail and seat needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

Since this vehicle reached about 75,000 miles, it has been burning oil like crazy. We have to add a quart every 7-10 days. It drives fine, there’s no oil leaks, no smoke from the tailpipe. We took the car to Hyundai and they did their oil consumption tests. They came to the conclusion that this was within the normal range and would do nothing for us. This needs to be fixed, Hyundai!

- #11619875October 15, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
This vehicle has a Driver Attention Alert System which track driver's eye and head movement to determine driver attention levels. This system can be disabled outside of using Cruise Control through the setup menu. However, when in Cruise Control, this system CANNOT be disabled. Unfortunately, if you're wearing sun glasses the system declares the driver is inattentive and produces a distracting aural and visual warning. If no action is taken the vehicle will automatically come to a stop, even on the freeway! This option is a driver distraction and does not allow the driver to wear sunglasses increasing the risk of motor vehicle accidents. Several customer have complained to Hyundai about this system. there needs to be driver-selectable option to enable/disable, even in Cruise Control mode.

On [XXX}, the abs module failed. I did not know this until it was diagnosed by Pope Automotive, Lubbock, TX on 9/27/24. They discovered there was a recall 205 related to this issue. They started a case with Hyundai in regard to this: #[XXX]. I was in contact with my case worker who told me to have it towed to a Hyundai dealership. I did and it is currently at Gene Messer Hyundai, Lubbock, TX. Messer diagnosed the vehicle and stated the abs module is not related to the recall, because the recall work was done on 2/25/24 in Alabama. I contacted Messer Service Dept and spoke with Victoria. She stated that perhaps only the fuse was replaced, but not the abs. We need a copy of the invoice from Feb 2022, in order to know. I called Carvana, where I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] (only weeks from when the service was done). I was told it has been too long, they don't have the record. Serra Hyundai Trussville, AL said I'd have to get the information from Carvana, they cannot provide it to me. I called Carvana again today. I spoke with a different person and was told it would take 24-48 hours to send me the copy. On this invoice, we will find the abs module was replaced. There is no logical reason for it to go out in just 2.5 years. Perhaps it was a bad part. I feel it is unfair that I am being held responsible for it's replacement. If the abs module was not replaced as part of the 205 recall, I would expect it replaced. There were several model years included in the recall and hundreds of thousands of vehicles affected. There was also a class action lawsuit. There was a period of time where Hyundai parts were not quality or reliable. This has been a very stressful situation requiring many phone calls and research. It should have been a simple solution - replace the defective abs module at no cost to me. I have been without my vehicle now since [XXX]. It is the only transportation for a family of 4. - #11619621October 14, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The Automatic Emergency Braking System, on multiple occasions now, has slammed on its brakes at highway speed when there are no obstacles, barriers, or even vehicles in sight ahead of my wife. This happened to me the other day also when exiting the highway onto an exit ramp when it "Detected Collision" when *nothing* was around me, no vehicles or barriers within any reasonable distance. It's going to end up causing someone to rear end me or her - absolutely unsafe and 100% putting my wife and child at risk. We're taking it to the dealership on Saturday and have verbally informed them of the issue. No warnings, no messages, no nothing prior to incident - the car is practically brand new.

- #11619452October 12, 2024STEERING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
The Forward Collision Assist would intermittently disable during driving. The Lane Keeping Assist light illuminated and would not allow me to disable it causing the vehicle to drive straight only and to make left or right turns extremely hard to turn the vehicle. This incident occurred on [XXX] and was dropped off at Johnson Hyundai in Wake Forest on that date. After a week of no contact of a diagnosis, I had to visit the dealer and was told the steering column was the issue and needed to be replaced. I contacted Hyundai America to report this issue and currently waiting on a response from their warranty to see if they will cover all or a percentage of the replacement of the steering column since my mileage is over their 100k (113k to be exact) coverage. While I appreciate their efforts, I also feel this could have resulted in a very serious incident had my daughter been driving on the highway when this occurred. Thankfully, she was picking me from home and it happened as we drove off from our house in our neighborhood. A steering column should outlast any other part(s) of a vehicle. If not, this is a huge safety concern. My [XXX] was also in the car at the time and I cannot even imagine how I would recover if something worse were to happen while he's on board. Hopefully this reporting will keep something bad from happening to others who own this type of vehicle but failed to report it. Thank you for your time. The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle lost automotive power and the vehicle failed to stop while depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was allowed to decelerate and come to a stop. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the engine was previously replaced and the contact was concerned that the warning lights on the instrument panel might not properly display because the check engine warning light had not illuminated during the previous failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000.

- #11619333October 11, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Three times this has happened. The instances occurred on Highway 680 between Pleasanton and San Jose. I was going the speed limit - 65 miles per hour - as were tons of cars around me. Suddenly the car would brake, startling me because I was nowhere near another car. It frightened me a lot! I think it is the automatic braking system - either the front end collision warning or the blind spot collision warning. It could have easily resulted in an accident. I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they knew they could not likely duplicate it. They showed me where to turn off the vehicle control (braking) for the front end collision warning and the blind spot collision warning. I have read on the Internet several other parties that have experienced this - car-controlled braking while traveling at high speed with lots of cars around.

The closed recall of the brake light failing to illuminate has returned and I’m not sure of my future steps in getting it fixed. The Hyundai repair website mentions it as completed in 2014, when I did not have the car. At random, my driver tail light will not illuminate whilst braking. It has recurred repeatedly, so I’ve put the incident as the most recent time it happened.

I have owned my vehicle since July 29th 2024 and have now replaced two windshields on my car. It has less than 6000 miles on it. I have looked online and many other people have had the same issues with Hyundai windshields. Something is not right with the glass itself, these tiny rocks should not be basically shattering my windshield while I’m driving.

Like many others, car consumed a quart of oil each 500-1,000 miles driven. Car received synthetic oil changes every other month along with additional quarts of oil in between oil changes. All service records maintained with receipts of additional oil quarts purchased. Car NEVER displayed any warning lights for low oil pressure or check engine lights. While driving on the highway at 65 MPH, engine seized. Was able to pull over safely and had car towed to the dealership. Service manager at dealer claims it will be over $20k to fix but Hyundai is only willing to cover 70% because it’s no longer covered under warranty and isn’t backed by their extended warranty offer. What a way to admit fault but gaslighting the consumer into believing it’s the consumer’s fault for a faulty product. Hyundai does not allow outside mechanics to look at vehicle or make repairs if you want them to take responsibility. So stuck with paying inflated dealer fees for repair and labor.

After car is idle, when pressing the gas, the car instantly stops as if you have slammed on the break, feeling like you have driven into a brick wall. The intensity of the stop causes you to jerk aggressively in your seat. This has happened on more than one occasion. Without a seatbelt it would cause injury as well as the possibility of causing an accident with other vehicles. When this happens, there were no warning lights or messages shown to indicate an issue. The vehicle is currently at the dealership as of 9/20/2024, they are trying to replicate the issue however it has been more than 2 weeks, and they have not found a resolution. They have run diagnostics tests and there was nothing that indicated the issue with the vehicle. As of today, 10/9/2024, the issue has not been resolved and the vehicle remains in the dealers possession.

We purchased a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE ULTIMATE from Hampton Hyundai in December of 2019. The vehicle has the V6 3.3 Liter Lambda II motor. At the time of purchase it had 44,969 miles on it and we paid roughly $27,000 for the vehicle and associated service package. We routinely had the vehicle serviced according to the recommended service schedule. In early 2022 we realized that the engine began burning oil at an alarming rate. We were adding roughly 1.5 quarts every 1,000 miles to maintain a safe level. This was done at a certified mechanic. After inquiring with Hampton Hyundai we were informed that this is considered normal operation and to be expected. Based on that information, we proceeded to routinely check oil levels and maintain them accordingly. On December 23rd, 2022, with roughly 81,000 miles on the vehicle, we experienced a knocking noise coming from the engine. I immediately pulled the vehicle to the side of the road to investigate the possible cause. I checked the oil and inspected the engine for anything that seemed to be out of place. There was nothing that seemed uncommon to the layman eye, with this, we immediately returned home with the vehicle. From here we had it towed to Certified Automotive Repairs and Service (C.A.R.S) and then to Hampton Hyundai. Both locations told us we needed a full engine replacement. We have requested assistance from Hampton Hyundai and Hyundai Motor America to assist with the cost of replacement and have been denied. The quote for a new motor and labor to install is nearly $20,000 and we were told that the cost is so high because Hyundai does not make the motor anymore and each individual part would need to be ordered and assembled. Our vehicle is currently at Hampton Hyundai and we are planning on having it towed back to our home.
