sticky/notchy steering - this issue is the same as what is widely reported and already recalled on 11th generation honda civic and acura models. very widely reported in online forums and message boards. acknowledged by dealer service departments with recommended action of replacing steering rack. usually after warmup, the steering wheel is "sticky" or "notchy' when trying to make small inputs from a center orientation or "12 o'clock" position. this results in too much movement when the steering "breaks" from the sticky/notchy condition, often resulting in necessitating an overcorrection back to center. this results in swerving on the road and causes unpredictable and erratic steering action

I am driving south into warmer weather and the steering is suddenly sticking while driving at highway speeds. It takes more pressure that normal to overcome the resistance and results in awkward swerving.

This vehicle is impacted by the “sticky steering” issues that led to the recall of 2022-25 Model Year Honda Civics. This gearbox issue is NOT restricted to just those model years.

One year after buying my car I noticed the steering would stick in place when trying to turn it causing overcorrections in driving. At first this was occurring just occasionally. It got to the point where the sticking of the wheel was everytime I drove the car, making it dangerous to drive, especially on the highway. There were no warnings the car gave off in this situation. I had brought it in twice to a Honda dealership regarding this issue. They drove it around independently and did not find the wheel to stick. They did give me a few ideas of what it could possibly be but with no definitive diagnosis. I also had an independent mechanic assess the car and they did not know what the problem was. I have contacted the Honda manufacturer twice regarding this issue, especially since finding multiple forums regarding the same complaint for their Honda civics. They just tell me there’s nothing they can do and tell me to go back to the same dealership to get another possible diagnosis of the issue. My car is available for inspection if requested.

The damage was to my rear windshield on my 2019 Honda Civic LX. The incident happened on March 19th 2025 at 5:30 PM while at a stop light. I heard a big bang or pop and initially thought that a big rock had been thrown at my car and assumed it smashed into the body. I immediately got out of my car and inspected the body quickly on my side only, fearing the light would turn green soon and I would need to resume my drive. I saw no damage. The left turn light became green and I proceeded to turn left. As I checked my rear view mirror, I noticed that my rear windshield was shattered, being held in place by the tint film. I was confused and did not know what happened. When I arrived at my destination, I inspected the glass and found no signs of an object striking the glass and causing damage. I went to the internet and looked for any incidents similar to what I experienced. I found that other Hondas have "Popped" and "Shattered" rear windshields in the past. The temperature on the date of the incident was a mild 72 degrees and sunny. The last time I used my rear defroster was a week ago. I did not use my AC/Heater on the date of the incident. I plan to see my Honda dealership and make arrangements with Honda or Safelite to get the damage repaired.
