The steering wheel is sticky and takes some effort to steer. The issue makes the vehicle dangerous to drive, as maintaining control of the vehicle is more difficult. I brought the issue to the attention of the service department at Honda of the Avenues in Jacksonville, Fl, on 5/26/2023. The response was that they could not see the problem. Now, on 4/5/2025, I again brought up the same issue. This time they say there is an issue.

Honda - In 2016 I purchased a new Honda Civic Tour model from a dealership and currently have 23000 miles (23K) recently the steering became a problem. I took it to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and was advised that there was an issue known as "notching" where a gear component became defective. It was dangerous to drive and there was no options but to have it repaired. The repair cost nearly $4000.00 and I was shocked. There was no recall according to the service manager but it was known as a common problem. My wife and I are in our [XXX] and [XXX] so the cost was a large burden financially. I was told that Honda-America had a "Goodwill" program that will review a case and possibly offer some financial relief. I complied with the info Honda solicited and submitted the case for consideration. In the meantime, I had the car repaired at the dealership and paid in full. I didn't ask for any specific amount but told Honda I would be appreciative for any financial assistance. Obviously we seldom drive the car usually to doctor appointments and needed errands. The customer service rep called and said my claim was denied because of the age (9 yrs.) even in spite of only have less that 23K miles. The original tires are on the car and it still has the "new car" smell. My wife and I are very disappointed with Honda's lack of compassion, we even purchased an extended warranty from the dealership when we bought the vehicle but we never used it. Honda could have helped us but the service rep made the decision to deny the claim. The customer service that I thought Honda was known for is not the case anymore. At high speeds and exceptionally worse during rainy weather, my steering is very sticky and fights me to maintain my lane. It is tough to make micro adjustments to stay straight and it sticks harder making a curve and coming back to straight. I have made my concerns with my dealership who said they felt it but blamed it on high winds at the time. It has not been rectified in non windy weather. It feels very unsafe while driving highway speeds. There are several of the same complaints from the same make and model year of this car on many forums

I can’t recall the exact mileage or the date, but I started having this issues but I’d say around 40-45K miles I started having what I’ve heard been called “sticky steering” when driving down the road the steering wheel almost gets a stuck feeling and I have to try and correct it back center, it mostly will try to pull towards the left side and I have to pull it back to the center. It does seem like it is stuck sometimes but I am able to correct it. It does this when I am driving at higher speeds probably anything above 45 mph. It can be scary driving long distances because I’m always having to use both hands on the wheel to try and control the wheel. I’ve also heard that it makes a “popping” sound when Turing the wheel all the way to one side mostly when backing up. I have reached out to a dealership before and they said they had no idea what I was talking about. I did not feel comfortable taking it to the dealership to spend all this money on something they did not know about. I’ve seen where there actually is a recall for this exact issue I’m having but it’s only for 22-23 models. I’m asking that this becomes one for the 19 or any other civic because this seems to be a serious issue. I fear that one day it will get bad enough to where I am not able to control my wheel and get into a crash. It has gotten worse as the miles go on.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was pulling to the left or the right independently. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering); however, the recall repair failed to prevent the failure. Shortly after the recall repair was completed, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer however, the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall again, because the recall repair was a one-time free repair. The vehicle was taken to several local dealers to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the EPS steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Steering wheel sticks while driving down the interstate, having to use more force to turn wheel then have to over correct. There is already a recall on this issue just not for this VIN and it needs to be included

AC evaporator is leaking on my 2019 honda civic. Honda corporation refuses to cover the 2k repair cost eventho they extended the warranty on the AC condenser and AC compressor to 10years due to faulty parts causing premature failure. Those faulty parts caused my AC evaporator to leaking I believe Honda corporation is conducting unfair business practices by making their customers flip the bill for that shady business practices.

- #11652067April 1, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I was in a situation where I needed to accelerate rapidly to avoid a crash. However, the car refused to accelerate, and “low speed breaking control” flashed on the dashboard. Thankfully, whatever triggered that soon stopped, and I was able to continue forward just before a collision. I don’t know what caused “low speed breaking control” to stop the vehicle in the middle of a busy street. I have attempted to disable “low speed breaking control” on this vehicle, but the vehicle doesn't allow me to disable it. I expect that the vehicle will someday cause a collision because it will once again decide that it needs to apply “low speed, breaking control“ when that would put me in danger

When driving down the highway the steering sometimes sticks or locks slightly. This is mainly when driving straight and doing a slight turn or correction. Alignment and balance are fine on the car. There are no warning lights. This is an intermittent problem and only occurs occasionally. I cant always duplicate. It has not been diagnosed by a mechanic yet as it is intermittent and it only occurs occasionally. Initially started around May of 2022 and has continued off and on since, most recently occurring on March 27th, 2025.

Had to get the fuel injectors replaced after faulty emissions notifications. Now the car stalls from start at a stop light or stop sign. The car also stalled in stop and go traffic on the highway. We have not been driving it over the winter. It's dangerous!

Unknown. Steering seems to stick when making small adjustments while driving straight causing the car to slightly jerk and oversteer the wanted adjustment. This causes me to constantly have to steering and adjust the steering while driving in a straight line. This seems to be a known issue with the steering rack not lubricating properly based on internet forums.

Steering is sticky and jerky when driving, causing driver to overcorrect left or right when making slight adjustments to center. Especially noticeable with highway driving. First noticed in 2024 and problem continues. Dealer said Honda is aware but no official recall issued as of yet.

The steering 'sticks' especially at speeds 60mph and results in over correction to move the direction of travel back to center. This makes it very difficult to safely drive and maintain lane position especially on wet or slippery roads. Coggin Honda of St. Augustine performed an inspection of the vehicle for the issue on March 27, 2025. Here is their diagnosis and identifies the Steering Gearbox be replaced: Steering Gearbox Replacement: c/s wheel sticks with small inputs turning left or right, confirmed issue, present at higher speeds when attempting a lane change. The steering wheel is attached to the steering gearbox by the steering shaft. As the driver moves the steering wheel, the steering gearbox, through a series of linkages, steers by pushing or pulling the front wheels of the vehicle.
