The vehicle's steering system, specifically the steering rack, is malfunctioning. The steering wheel intermittently catches, becomes difficult to turn, and then suddenly releases. An authorized Honda dealership diagnosed an issue requiring replacement of the steering rack under warranty. The defective component remains installed in the vehicle and is currently available for inspection. The steering wheel unpredictably becomes resistant to turning and then suddenly releases, making it difficult to maintain consistent control of the vehicle. The vehicle also drifts to the left or right, requiring frequent steering corrections. These symptoms create a potential risk of losing steering control, particularly when turning, changing lanes, or driving at higher speeds. The unpredictable steering behavior could result in a collision and endanger me, my passengers, and other motorists. Yes. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection. Although the service advisor initially stated that he could not feel anything abnormal during a test drive, the dealership subsequently diagnosed a steering rack issue and determined that the steering rack requires replacement under the manufacturer's warranty. Yes. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealership, and American Honda corporate customer service has been notified. Honda has discussed the possibility of a manufacturer buyback due to the safety-related defect, and I am awaiting assignment of a case manager. The vehicle was also previously inspected by repair facilities and Progressive Insurance following a minor collision. However, the steering rack was not replaced during those repairs, and the relationship between the collision and the current steering malfunction has not been established. The primary symptoms were intermittent steering resistance, catching or binding sensations, sudden release of steering resistance, vehicle drifting, and the need for frequent steering corrections.

Premature clutch failure. No longer available for inspection as the car has since been repaired. Safety of myself and family put at risk due to clutch failure/slippage as car was unable to hold a gear resulting in the inability to accelerate properly. Additionally, safety of others was put at risk as the failure to hold a gear resulted in car not accelerating properly potentially resulting in a rear end collision. Problem was confirmed by dealer and independent repair shop. Vehicle was inspected at a certified honda dealership and required repair. Due to the estimated cost of the repair through the dealership ($7995), car was repaired through an outside mechanic. There were no warning laps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure that first appeared on or around 9/14/2026

"The dealer invoice for my 2020 Honda Civic explicitly diagnosed a seatbelt 'internal failure.' Honda Corporate verbally denied coverage by claiming an undocumented seat cover obstruction. I was forced to pay $482.32 out-of-pocket for a safety component covered under Honda's 15-Year/150,000-Mile safety warranty."

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Ex Vehicle taken into Honda dealer due to SRS/airbag lights on dash, a diagnostic scan was done, Honda dealer diagnosed a failed clock spring. Independent mechanic replaced it. After the repair, the SRS/airbag lights remained on. Honda dealer attempted seat weight sensor relearn/initialization but could not complete it. Independent mechanic then diagnosed failed front passenger seat weight sensors (photos available). Dealer confirmed VIN not flagged for NHTSA 26V332 (Honda OOA / bulletin 26-073) covering seat weight sensors on 2017–2021 Civic Hatchbacks. Requested goodwill repair; denied. They refused written denial and would not name the decision-maker. With SRS light on, passenger airbags may deploy improperly in a crash (or fail to suppress for child/small occupant), matching the 26V332 defect. Request investigation and free sensor replacement under recall or expanded coverage. Documentation (repair orders, photos, notes) available on request.

My 2018 Honda Civic EX developed a steering problem that made the steering wheel difficult to turn. On [XXX], at approximately 67,219 miles, I brought the vehicle to J&L Auto & Tire Center in Nyack, New York, for evaluation. The repair facility documented the complaint as “hard time steering wheel” and recommended replacing the rack-and-pinion steering gear assembly with a rebuilt unit. The estimated repair cost was $4,901.84, including labor, parts, and tax. I contacted American Honda after the repair facility advised me to investigate a possible known steering gearbox issue affecting certain 2017–2018 Honda Civics. Honda informed me that my VIN was not included in Safety Recall 18V-663 / Service Bulletin 18-102 and that the repair would not be covered under that campaign. I am concerned that this steering failure may represent a broader safety issue affecting additional 2018 Honda Civics that were not included in the original recall population. The existing Honda recall addressed a steering gearbox defect that could cause unexpected steering input. Although I cannot confirm that my vehicle experienced the identical internal defect, I believe the steering failure warrants investigation to determine whether there is a common underlying problem or a broader defect affecting vehicles outside the original recall. A steering system that becomes difficult to operate can compromise a driver’s ability to control the vehicle and may increase the risk of a crash, particularly during emergency maneuvers. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this complaint alongside other reports of steering rack failures and difficult or sticky steering in 2017–2018 Honda Civics to determine whether further investigation or an expanded safety recall is warranted. While traveling on the highway at approximately 55–60 mph, my vehicle suddenly began shaking and progressively losing engine power and speed. The check-engine light started flashing rapidly, followed by multiple dashboard warnings involving the braking system, power steering, vehicle stability control, collision mitigation, and other safety systems. Despite pressing the accelerator, the vehicle continued losing power and slowing down. The engine remained running, but the vehicle could not maintain highway speed.

The car stalls when driving in low speeds such as 5-6 mph. The happens at random points and the only clear indication that it will happen is when the car has a sudden jump. The car will run normally but once turned off and turned on after some time and driving it, it stalls completely. No warning light comes on and no codes have been successfully found. I have taken the car to the Honda mechanic about 5 times and in neither of those times have replaced parts fixed the issue. The car is a safety hazard for me and my family.

ac compressor failure. This is a known defect in ALL 10th Generation Honda vehicles. My 2020 Honda Civic Sport at 44K miles AC compressor has failed. The extended warranty that Honda issued will not cover a new compressor that Honda has diagnosed it needs. I have been fighting very hard with Honda Corporate to Goodwill a compressor replacement which they priced at over $2,500 out of pocket. I have been driving in over 100 degrees weather for over 2 months with no cold air. Pacific Honda in San Diego did make an attempt to repair but only the 2 parts that were covered by the extended warranty which is the cam shaft seal and the condenser however this failed to fix the underlying problem which is the entire compressor. For almost 2 months have been going round and round with corporate to Goodwill a compressor replacement and after several phone calls and heated conversations they refused to help me and said a goodwill replacement on the compressor is not possible and closed the case! This is absolutely unbelievable that Honda has been making me drive in the extreme heat for so long I almost fainted several times driving and that could cost my life. Also we are expecting the most severe storms this winter in Southern California where I reside and am stationed in the US Navy and I fear my defroster will not function properly during severe rain and storms causing blinding and non-visibility which not only threatens my life but the life of my family in the vehicle and other drivers on the road near me when my vision will be completely impaired by this malfunction of the defroster. Honda has ignored my safety concerns and the imminent threat to my life and others and closed the case. Please help me. No owner of the 10th gen Hondas should ever have to go through this and Honda should absolutely be held responsible and repair any AC Compressor that fails to these owners at no cost to the buyer. Lives are at risk.

I own a 2020 Civic Si. At about 29,000 the clutch started slipping in higher heats and going up hills. Once I noticed this the clutch degraded very quickly to the point it was unsafe to drive. By very quickly I mean in about 100 miles worth of travel. I notified Honda Corporate and opened a case with them. There is a TSB 22-017 out about the faulty clutches stating the friction material was faulty in some 19-20 models and to replace the clutch and included all parts associated to be replaced. However my car was just one year outside of the warranty even tho it was within the mileage. Since they were going to replace with the same parts that failed, I decided to do the replacement myself with an OEM clutch made for the Type R which is more appropriately matched to the torque of the vehicle and a different flywheel as the factory one increases the wear due to being dual mass. I took pictures of the process for documentation. When the transmission was opened up the friction material had basically disintegrated into chuncks. The pressure plate also seemed to be putting unnecessary amount of pressure on the bearing. Almost like the clamping force was far too much for the hydrolic system to counter and thus caused excessive slippage. Honda was going to charge $2000 to diagnose the clutch and the clutch replacement would have cost $6,000. That is an absurd amount to charge for a known faulty part. Tho the new clutch also required an upgraded CMC, I was about to install a far superior OEM part for 1/3 of the price. I wanted to submit a report in hopes that with enough complaints Honda will do a proper recall before someone in the future loses function of their clutch and potentially has an accident.

- #11773382October 24, 2026FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Vehicle experienced immediate severe engine stalling, power loss, and sudden total engine shut-off while moving in live traffic on the road following the execution of NHTSA Recall Campaign MGJ (Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Replacement). The engine stall occurs when mechanical and electrical loads engage, such as the AC compressor or cabin heater at idle and while driving. Diagnostic scan confirms permanent active codes P2187 (System Too Lean at Idle) and P0451 (Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Performance), indicating fuel starvation from the recalled fuel pump assembly under the rear seat. When the engine sputters or shuts off, an immediate electrical warning cascade triggers across multiple safety systems, including Brake Hold System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Problem. Authorized dealership (Joyce Honda) and American Honda Corporate (Case # 166-940-04) refuse to perform a zero-cost inspection and remediation without requiring out-of-pocket diagnostic fees, creating an extreme active road hazard. Video evidence of dashboard failure recorded on-road.

- #11772987October 22, 2026STRUCTURE:BODY
I am reporting a structural manufacturing issue on my 2018 Honda Civic. The vehicle is currently grounded at Caliber Collision in Ceres, CA. A certified structural facility (Caliber Collision) has documented that the factory sheet metal seams are splitting open in both front wheel wells and the center floor area directly under the driver’s seat. The vehicle was involved in a minor right-side accident on [XXX] (fully repaired), and a minor left-side accident on [XXX]. Caliber Collision has officially stated in writing that the impact forces from these accidents were not hard enough to cause this type of structural damage. Coupled with a complete lack of buckling to the sheet metal, Caliber has determined that this seam splitting does not appear to be loss-related, and they are exploring the possibility of an inherent manufacturer defect. Caliber Collision attempted to reach out to Service Manager Jorge Sanchez at Mistlin Honda in Modesto, CA, to escalate this structural problem, but he was completely unresponsive. Because a local resolution failed, American Honda Corporate has since opened an active safety investigation into this vehicle under Honda Case Number: [XXX]. Because the structural seams under the driver's seat and wheel wells are splitting under non-loss conditions, this creates an active vehicle safety hazard. The contact owns a 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle suddenly shutoff with the check engine warning light flashing on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and the vehicle was restarted. The warning light was off after the vehicle was restarted. An OBD2 scan tool was used to scan the vehicle and the DTC for a misfire in cylinder #3 was retrieved. The contact shifted into Sport Mode and the vehicle drove normally. The dealer was notified of the failure and associated the failure with bad gasoline. The contact stated the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician confirmed the use of poor gasoline as the failure. The dealer flushed the fuel system and added new spark plugs. The contact stated that 6,000 miles later the failure returned. The dealer suggested an upgrade to premium fuel and stated that the high ethanol in the gasoline was causing the spark plugs to overheat and cause the misfire. The failure mileage was 33,000.
