In July of 2023, my wife and kids were driving to San Diego from Phoenix. About 40 miles west of El Centro, CA, all the lights on the dash came on instructing her to pull over. When she pulled over and shut the car off, it would not come back on. Got towed back to a GM Dealership in El Centro. The diagnosed it with a bad radiator and failed engine. The replaced both(at roughly 30,000 miles). The car was fine for about six months and then it started getting battery drains again, which continually happened starting a few months after purchasing the vehicle. They never could figure this part out. Anyway, early January of 2025, while driving back to Phoenix from San Diego, the car did the same thing. This time, it restarted and she could continue on her way home. On [XXX], while driving in town, the same thing happened, all lights came on, pulled over and car would not restart. It is diagnosed with the same issue. It has been in the shop at Van GMC since January 12th, 2025 waiting on a new engine, at 63,000 miles. This will be the 3rd engine in the vehicle. By looking online, this appears to be a common issue and happens more than it should. This needs to be addressed. My wife has our kids in this vehicle a majority of the time and this is a major safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While traveling at highway speed, without warning, check engine light started flashing. Pulled off the highway at the next exit and vehicle died in the middle of the road. Towed vehicle to mechanic who inspected vehicle and found no compression (zero psi) on cylinder 1 indicating a major engine failure, rendering engine unrepairable and the vehicle worthless. Either cam, lifter, piston failure in cylinder 1 causing massive engine failure and making the engine unrepairable due to metal shavings in the engine. This is the L87 engine, 6.2L V8 that has been plagued by problems by millions of GM owners. This car had been meticulously serviced and maintained with regularly scheduled full synthetic oil changes. The car have no indication of engine problems beforehand until the engine blew up at highway speeds.

While driving down a two-lane highway, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power and shifted into neutral. We coasted to a stop and pulled into a driveway, at which point the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the local GM dealership, where we were informed that the engine required replacement.

Traveling North bound on Highway 14 in Southern California on January 24, 2025. In the fast lane traveling approximately 70MPH when with no warning what so ever the vehicle shifted into neutral and lost power. Nearly rear ended trying to get out of traffic and to the right shoulder. Once stopped the vehicle would not start, stuck in Park, and could not turn the electronics off. Stuck in vehicle for 3 hours because it was too dangerous to exit vehicle. Tow truck arrived. Tried to jump the battery which by this time was dead. Had to drag the vehicle up the flatbed with wench do to vehicle unable to shift out of Park.

2018 Yukon XL: Safety of family put at risk over faulty transmission. Vehicle used to transport children many times daily. Transmission began slipping with slight lagging. Vehicle assessed by independent service center and we as customers told this is a common issue with GMC vehicles of this year. Service center was able to reproduce and confirm the issue. Total to rebuild entire transmission was $7,377.33. Total transmission failure. Entire transmission had to be replaced at tremendous expense to our family. Transmission began slipping with slight lagging. Engine RPM's would increase with no additional power or speed.

I purchased my new GMC Yukon XL in October 2024. In February, with about 9,000 miles on it, I was approaching a highway intersection and beginning to brake. My vehicle put itself into Neutral, and then shut off -- while I was still moving. No dash lights came on, except for a message stating that I needed to press the brake and restart my vehicle. I took my vehicle into the dealership where I purchased it and they kept it for 8 days. They were unable to reproduce the issue and didn't do anything to mitigate the problem except for doing a "radio update" and adding lubricant to a window track. I was told I have to wait until it happens again and try to record it.

I was driving down the highway at 75 miles per hour and my engine shifted from drive to Neutral on its own, luckily I was able to get off to the side of the road as it would not shift back into drive. I got off the highway and was able to put it in park but it would not shift into any other gear. I turned the vehicle off and it would not power back on. It was completely dead. I had to have it towed and drug up onto truck and back off the truck as it was not shift into Neutral. It has now been at the GM dealership for 16 days. The engine had seized they said and needs a new one. this is a 2023 and only has slightly over 20K miles on it. They have told me there is a national shortage on engines and I am in line to get one but there is no telling on how long that will be. I am out of a car for 2 weeks and who knows how much longer. GM has given me a rental car but a very small SUV that does not fit my family. I have no idea how long it will be nor do they until I get a new engine in my vehicle. I was fortunate I was able to get to the side of the highway and stop safely.

Our car has 66,000 miles on it. My wife was driving it we have never hooked a trailer to it. Never done anything but drive our kids around go run errands in it. The motor seized and left my wife stranded. The car has been fully serviced ahead of schedule every time And very well taken care of it still looks new, but the dealership is now telling me the motor and the transmission possibly are bad and I’m only 6000 miles past the factory warranty. There’s no reason for this motor to have failed or the transmission as the car has never seen any hard service and has only seen normal paved roads and running errands and dropping kids off. The dealership said it’s going to cost around $16,000 to fix both the engine and the transmission out of nowhere the motor just seized with no warning and no noises

On [XXX] while driving my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali to work, the vehicle suddenly lost power without warning. I had it towed to the dealership, where I was informed that the fuse pack needed replacement. Less than 36 hours after getting my vehicle back, I experienced another critical failure—while driving, the traction control light and check engine light came on, and the engine began making a loud clacking noise. Upon returning it to the dealership, I was told that the vehicle required a complete engine replacement. Prior to this incident, my Yukon had no known mechanical issues. However, despite the vehicle being only three years old and under GMC’s 5-year/60,000-mile PowerTrain warranty, the failure occurred at 65,722 miles—just over the coverage limit. GMC has acknowledged nearly 900,000 reported issues related to this engine defect, yet instead of issuing a full recall, I was only offered 60% coverage, leaving me with over $5,000 in out-of-pocket costs for an issue that is clearly a widespread manufacturing defect. I purchased this vehicle for its reputation of reliability and safety, especially as the primary mode of transportation for my family of five, with no nearby relatives to rely on. Given the known defects, it is unacceptable that GMC has failed to take full responsibility. I am formally requesting that GMC cover the full cost of the engine replacement and issue a recall to prevent other consumers from experiencing the same failure. I have a 2007 GMC Yukon. This car has been converted from the inside into a small limousine. Bench to bench with drinks bar in the middle. I would like to ask you, if I give you the chassis number, can you check if this car was converted at your factory? Can I receive a letter from you documenting this change? Attached are pictures of the car

While driving, vehicle threw an error “ reduced acceleration, drive with care”. I had my children in the car when the car abruptly reduced speed and car jerked. It was very scary while driving. It was stuck in 5th gear. I was taken to dealership. Code showed it needs a Transmission Valve Body replacement. Part # 24065353. Dealership has stated part is “on backorder with no ETA of the part”. My car has been sitting on the lot for 17 days waiting to be fixed.

2023 Yukon XL AT4 with 6.2L engine. [XXX] started to hear rattling noise coming from the engine area. I took the vehicle to a GMC dealer in Houston TX. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective transmission plate? Said they would have to order the part. Part arrived and while at the dealer they decided to inspect the oil pan. In the oil pan they found metal shavings. It was reported to me yesterday [XXX] that the engine would need to be replaced. This vehicle has roughly 17,000 miles and it’s been just over 1 1/2 years since purchased brand new by me. No confirmation of when a new motor will be available for replacement. Was told it could be months. Was also told that the vehicle is unsafe to drive since the engine could lock up at any time based on their findings. Total engine failure at 12,307 miles without warning. The engine turned off while driving on the Interstate - a message appeared on the instrument panel that said "Press start". We coasted to the shoulder and the car was towed to the dealership where the diagnosis was a failed L87 V8 engine. I'm aware of 3 others with the same engine (2024 Denali, 2024 Escalade, 2024, Silverado) that have also experienced this issue. After some research, this appears to be under review by the the NHTSA. This was a dangerous situation with an engine failure at highway speeds, at night, on an unlit well-traveled Interstate with 4 children in the vehicle. The dealership stated that my repair is behind 2 vehicles awaiting the same engine replacement.

While driving on the interstate at 75mph the vehicle shutdown and would not allow a restart. I had to coast over to the emergency lane with no engine power. Once stopped the vehicle would not start. After having the vehicle hauled to the dealership I was informed that the engine had locked-up and a new engine would have to be ordered and replace the engine. The dealership could not provide me with a repair date because they said GMC has lots of problems with this engine and it would be backordered.

- #11642525February 13, 2025TIRES:SIDEWALL
Tire Size: 265 70 16. While driving on a straight and level highway, the right rear tire sidewall completely shredded. Tire lost all air pressure and separated from the rim. I bought four General Grabber tires in July 2021. This is the second tire that the sidewall shredded. The first one shredded on the left rear side in July of 2024. There are a lot of General Grabber tires being recalled for over-cured sidewalls but it's strange that there are no recalls on this particular tire.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that the A/C unit had failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was provided an estimate for a diagnostic test. The contact then decided to take the vehicle to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic discovered a hole in the A/C condenser. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
