The engine developed a ticking noise which turned out to be bad lifters and bent lifter rods, and a bad valve lifter oil manifold.

Vehicle "Low Oil Warning" light appeared at approximately 3000 miles after an oil change. Checked the oil and it was nearly 3 quarts low. Without any visible leaks or loss of oil, I called local GMC service department and had them inspect. They found that 4 pistons and other components needed replaced due to failure. There was no signs or symptoms other than the warning light. The car has been in the shop for 3 weeks. I currently do not have my vehicle, but I was going to use this vehicle for a long road trip and I'm sure this would have been a catastrophic loss, and possibly a safety issue for my family traveling 1k miles at highway speeds.

Reported electrical issues beginning one month after purchasing the vehicle. I reported issues for the first year including the running boards not working, entertainment system not operating, hard engine restart/stalling and the reverse camera not engaging. February 2024 the car was driving down the highway and a loud noise began in the engine. Entire car stopped running. Placed in the shop for 29 days to replace the engine, battery, computer, and other items. The next day engine began to stall again. Monday at 10am the car stalled again and was unable to be turned back on. Car was then taken for another 15 days fuel injectors, spark plugs and other items changed. Again received the car back and had issues with stalling and engine revving issues. Turned into dealership and bought another GMC Yukon. GMC refused to admit an issue and refused to help. They only changed out the initial engine and paid for the rental. Car under full warranty for manufacturer plus maintained my extended warranty. Reported to BBB.

Driving on highway with my [XXX] daughter in the car, screen all of a sudden flashed “press start” on the dashboard and the car died in highway at the off ramp exit. Had to call state police because we were blocking ramp and almost got hit multiple times. Could not get car to restart, state police towed off highway for $200 and AAA towed to dealer. Took over a week for dealer to claim GM owned up to engine failure. No rental car provided. Sold for a $37,000 loss a year and a half after purchase with only 27,000 mile on the vehicle. While driving in the left lane of the interstate at 70 mph, the engine abruptly shut off, shifting the car into neutral. The dashboard read start engine, which did not compute immediately. I quickly navigated to the right lane to assess the situation and eventually to the shoulder of the highway where I parked the vehicle. I was unable to to restart and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. It took ~6 hours for the Onstar tow service to arrive.

I possess a 2020 GMC Yukon XL. During multiple highway drives, I experienced a persistent loss of power. When accelerating from a stop, the vehicle struggled to shift gears smoothly, resulting in a rough, jerking motion. I opted to take the car to the dealership; however, before I could reach it, the vehicle lost all power and failed to change gears entirely. I am fortunate this complete loss of power and ability to change gears did not occur while I was on a busy highway. I purchased the car when it had 63,000 miles, and at 120,000 miles, the dealership informed me that the transmission had completely failed. A replacement of the transmission will be necessary.

- #11651172March 27, 2025FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I was driving with my [XXX] son and my car just stalled out in the middle of the road. I couldn’t start it and we were stuck in the middle of the road. My husband arranged for a tow and the repair shop (safe auto repair Mont Belvieu) told me that this type of thing they have seen a lot of. The fuel pump power control module needed to be repaired and they said when that happens it sometimes shorts out the fuel pump system too. They said they had to repair 4 like this already during the week. My neighbor said the exact same thing happened to her friend gmc at4 a month ago and was also driving and the car just stopped. On [XXX] while driving my Yukon Denali XL it complexly shut off in the middle of [XXX] . I had my children with me and had to wait for almost an hour as police directed traffic around my vehicle until it could be towed. It just lost all abilities to accelerate, brake and steer. GM diagnosed that the engine seized and had to be replaced. this again happened on [XXX]. Gm has reported that the engine seized and has to be replaced again! On 3/21/2025 while in the middle lane of highway 290 my 2022 Yukon Denali xl started immediately decreasing in speed. The car went into neutral and I had no control of the acceleration or braking. Then the engine shut off. I wasn’t not able to get my car off of the freeway and had to wait over 1.5 hours to have it towed by GM. This is the second engine that has seized in the car. The car is still under warranty and had an extended warranty through gm as the engine seized and had to be replaced once already. Extremely dangerous

ENGINE: Reported engine knocking and high idle 1/30/23 with 26,608 miles on vehicle. In service department until 03/03/03 with no issues found. Took vehicle to another dealership service department 06/06/23 with engine knocking and high idle, no issues found. Received back 06/12/23. Filmed the engine noises and high idle on 06/22/23, engine light came on and returned to service department at 37,265 miles. Engine was replaced after a lengthy wait time for replacement. Cam and Lifters were the issue in original engine. Received vehicle back 08/30/23. MODULES: Reported the display changing 1/30/23 with 26,608 miles, service documents state related to telematics controls. They replaced the module. Vehicle had a delay in shifting, reported on 06/06/23 with 36, 303 miles. Transmission control module was out of calibration and was reprogrammed at a dealership service department. Vehicle shifted into neutral multiple times. Reported to service department 09/08/23 at 38,183 miles. The transfer case lost communication with the brake control module, but they started communicating again without repairs according the service invoice. Then there was a recall for the screen switching displays, which it has done the entire ownership, even after replacing the module. Turned into dealership for that recall, it was updated, the displays still change screens while the vehicle is in use.

V8 6.2L ENGINE on [XXX] at approximately [XXX] exactly 10 months after purchasing the Denali at 9,484 miles my Denali started to make loud noises and when we got to the stop light [XXX] and [XXX] in Long Beach California the Denali started to shake violently and ultimately shut down in the middle of the road. My daughter and I were traveling on the way home from the doctor’s office and when Denali shut down, I called AAA, and they advised me to call 911 since Denali locked up in park and could not get it in neutral to push the truck to the side of the road. This was very dangerous as vehicles were speeding past us. We stayed in the vehicle until an officer arrived. Then about 15mins later the tow truck arrived and made the area safe with cones and flashing lights. I did put my hazard lights on but in the middle of the day it was very hard to see. AAA was able to disengage the parking to neutral as he mentioned that he just towed another Denali off the road. This is a huge concern for my family and me. I didn’t get to see how he did it because I was with my daughter safe in the Tow Truck. AAA then towed the truck to Penske GMC in Cerrito Auto Square and arrived at 1:48pm. Service advisor then said to leave at garage door and will assess the vehicle tomorrow morning. Albert, the Service advisor, proceeded with giving me paperwork for the Denali and an Enterprise rental car that was located across the street. We had to walk because the shuttle was down (another concern). Albert the service advisor called me the next day [XXX] and advised that the first auto technician suggested the motor seized up. I was advised to wait until the Engine Specialist assessed the motor. Albert the service advisor calls me March 5,2025 @ 11:15am and Engine Specialist did confirm that the motor did seize up and will need a new one. The motor will take approximately 2 weeks to arrive and 3 days to install. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was travelling on the interstate at 75 miles per hour and the vehicle started slowing down and completely shut down. The engine warning light then came on and I had to coast to the side of the road. I was on the side of the interstate for about 45 minutes and the vehicle had to be towed. The repair shop informed me it was a complete engine failure requiring a new motor and that GM has an extended backorder time due to this being a widespread problem for these model years with the 6.2L gas engine. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and will be there for several months waiting on an engine.

My daughter and I were coming and got off of the [XXX] on the [XXX] exit ramp to go home. When we were pulling up the vehicle suddenly showed the check engine light and the vehicle turned off. It would not go into neutral, it would not restart. I am being told there is no active recall on it; however, in researching, it appears that I am one of many cases of this exact scenario. Being stuck on a busy exit ramp is not safe and had this have happened in the road construction on [XXX] , this could have been a much different scenario even fatal. This vehicle is a 2023 with 40,355 miles on it. The Denali is currently at the dealership it was towed to, and I am waiting on the diagnostic.
