I was driving on a highway at speeds of 65 mph and the engine stalled on the left lane. I almost got struck by a tracker trailer. The dealer supposedly fixed the issue and a few months went by and the vehicle died again engine failure in middle of the highway.

Roughly one to two times per day, a notification pops up on the infotainment screen stating that the brakes need to be serviced due to the brake assist system failing. The vehicle has been brought to 3 different dealerships and none of them know what the problem is, how to fix it, or whether it is safe to drive the vehicle still. The brakes seem to be working fine, however, it is concerning that even if the notification is safe to ignore, the brakes could indeed end up failing and the driver may not be aware due to receiving frequent brake failure notifications per day.

I am writing to express my concern regarding a serious issue with my 2021 GMC Yukon. Recently, while driving, I experienced a sudden surge in power. About five minutes later, when attempting to shift into reverse, the vehicle would not respond. I tried multiple times with no success. Afterward, while driving it briefly around the block, it made a clunking sound, which raised further concern. Ultimately, I had to call a tow truck, and the vehicle was taken to George Gee GMC in Liberty Lake, Washington. Unfortunately, the next day the dealership was unable to duplicate the issue. There were no warning messages on the screen at the time of the incident, and no diagnostic codes were found, so they could not move forward with any repair. I later discovered that this exact issue is addressed in Technical Service Bulletin N242454441-02. However, I was informed that my VIN is not included in the special coverage, despite my vehicle being the same year and equipped with the same transmission mentioned in the bulletin. I am deeply concerned that this problem could happen again—possibly while I am driving in Canada, transporting my children, or in a location where calling a tow truck would be very difficult. My safety and my family’s safety are at risk, and frankly, I am now anxious about driving a vehicle I used to trust. I also have an extended warranty, but when I contacted GM service, I was told that unless the problem can be duplicated, it would not be covered. This is extremely frustrating given the severity of the issue and the fact that it is already documented in an official bulletin. I am requesting that this situation be escalated. I would appreciate any additional support, coverage, or guidance GM can offer to help ensure this issue is resolved and does not put me or my family at risk again.

While driving on the freeway at about 70mph, the lights on the dash lit up and the message "Push Button to Start" showed up. At that point the vehicle started decreasing in speed. When the accelerator was depressed, nothing happened. Luckily the freeway was not crowded and the vehicle was able to coast the side of the road where it came to a stop. Pushing the start button did nothing except bring up the dash information. Engine would not start or even try to start. AAA was called and the car was towed to a dealership. The dealer has since determined that the engine is locked up. The oil had metal in it and an engine replacement will be needed. They have put in an order for a new engine. There were no warning lights or CELs of any kind. The engine just stopped working without any warning. The 6.2l engine on the GM line of SUVs and trucks seems to be known for doing this. If this were a busy time of day or there was more traffic it may not have been so easy to pull to the side of the road. It is only a matter of time before these engine issues result in an injury or worse, a fatality. The solution to replace a faulty engine with another engine that has not been redesigned or fixed is an unsafe and risky solution.

On 1/3/25 the engine in my 2022 GMC Yukon XL Denali started making knocking noise while driving and then it happened again when turning on the engine. The check engine light came on, so I had the vehicle towed to the nearest GM dealership. When the dealership drained the oil they found metal shavings in the oil. The vehicle had roughly 44,000 miles on it at the time. This put my family and young children at risk as they were in the vehicle when this happened.

With no warning, the engine died in my vehicle. I was in the middle of a busy intersection at red light with my children. No sensors ever indicated there was a problem. The car could not be put into neutral so it couldn’t be moved until a tow truck came.

While driving the transmission will slip/hard shift very aggressively causing the rear tires to lock up. This would happen at unpredictable speeds (anywhere between 10mph-65mph), this occurred for about 2 weeks before vehicle ever gave a code. VERY scary and dangerous especially if you are in traffic since it essentially "brake checks" those behind you. The last incident that finally provided a code occurred at 50 mph when the rear tires completely locked forcing the vehicle in park. Could no longer drive the vehicle after this. The error code states that a rear body valve is needed for the transmission which the dealer is unable to get and neither the dealer or manufacturer can provide any estimate of arrival. Has been in the shop for almost 2 months now waiting.

I was going about 53 mph and went to pass another vehicle. While in the oncoming traffic lane, the transmission went out. The engine revved up and the gas pedal did not work. The vehicle has been inspected and was found to have a faulty control module that possibly caused the failure within the transmission. The parts are all on "indefinite backorder" and I have a $50,000 loan on a $60,000 vehicle that is now a paper weight.

Multiple issues...I bought the vehicle in Oct. 2023 1. BRAND NEW.... First day I brought the vehicle home there was a whining sound coming from the transmission. The reaction carrier assembly had to be replaced along with all other components. The transmission had to be completely removed from the vehicle and repaired. 2. In May of 2024 I had to have the lifters replaced on one side of the motor. 3. Right now it's in the shop with a blown motor. Yes there's only about 43,000 miles on it and the motor is blown and has to be fully replaced.

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while driving approximately 3-5 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly shifted to neutral, and the vehicle stalled immediately. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the engine was on backorder. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power while driving, which has been attributed to a blown fuse and an underlying engine failure. The dealership has confirmed that the engine needs to be repaired. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My [XXX] son was driving the vehicle alone at night over a busy bridge when the car suddenly lost power without warning. He had to coast down the bridge in heavy traffic with limited control, putting himself and surrounding drivers at serious risk. Fortunately, he was able to pull over safely, but the situation could have easily led to a serious accident or injury. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the vehicle was towed to the dealership, where the issue has been diagnosed. They confirmed that the engine is damaged and requires repair. They also identified that the initial trigger may have been a blown fuse, which led to the complete engine failure. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle is currently in the care of the dealership’s service department. It has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No accident occurred, so no police report was filed. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no prior warning lights or symptoms leading up to the failure. The oil had recently been changed, and no issues were reported during the service. The only warning that appeared was the transmission warning light, which came on simultaneously with the vehicle’s sudden power loss. Catastrophic engine failure to the GM 6.2L engine. Mechanical issue - cam or crankshaft came apart. Safety to myself and/or others as I was driving on the road in traffic when the issue occurred and had complete loss of power. I was able to avoid traffic and get the SUV to the shoulder of the road. The issue was confirmed by my auto service provider. No warning lamps or messages prior to failure. Once failure occurred, the check engine light started to blink.
