On warm days, while running the AC, the entire HVAC system shuts down and stops blowing air out of any vents at all. This occurs weather the vehicle is driving or stationary. Making it especially dangerous when the windshield begins fogging up during rainy or humid weather and unable to defog it. Similar reports online suggest the evaporator is freezing up completely and blocking all airflow

I bought a 2023 FORD EXPEDITION MAX LIMITED for business purposes as a livery vehicle. I drive about 5000 miles a month. Problem 1: From the day I bought this vehicle from ford dealer in GJOVIK FORD in PLANO IL I hear kicks and clunks under my feet (most likely faulty transmission). The kicks and clunks happen when I'm about to come to a stop or when starting from a stop. Sometimes when turning. Its always when I let go of the gas or give it gas. It sounds like I'm driving a 10 year old car. Problem 2: After I did my first oil change I had driven about 2500 miles when the cars engine light came on and I take it to the dealer and they found that the engine oil was too low. They did an oil consumption test and the test shows 1 quart of oil lost for every 1500 miles driven. They find no oil leaks. I'm using full synthetic oil from the dealer. This is unreasonable. Problem 3: The car smells some sort exhaust fumes in the vehicle when I drive for about 30 minutes or more. The first few thousands miles the car would smell a little fumes here and there but now its more constant the longer you drive it. I paid close to $80k for this vehicle. The least I expect is for the car to operate normal. Ford has cheated me out alot of money as I have not received what I have paid for and I am not enjoying it at all. The vehicle currently has 18K miles in it. All symptoms have been present from the day I bought it. I do not know who to contact but this is not fair!

POWER TRAIN
Transmissions quickly break down. First signs are hard/loud gear shifting followed by slipping gears then eventual inability to accelerate. Regular transmission drains find metal contamination indicating breakdown of gears. Ford Motor Company is aware of this issue and will replace the transmission with the same failing transmission. Their proprietary system makes it difficult to diagnose and repair leading consumers to have to buy a replacement after 60k miles (which just so happens to be the extent of their warranty).

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving approximately 62 MPH and towing a motorhome, the "Exceeded Speed Distance Conditions" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the transmission fluid was inspected but no failure was found. The contact was advised to monitor any abnormal noises; however, no suspected transmission failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

I have taken the Expedition to the dealer for 2 issues: 1) the truck release didn't work correctly when you unlatch. However, Finally there was an update a year later to fix it.2) The infotainment 15 inch touchscreen is not dependable 3 out of 7 days, roughly. When turning it on, it doesn't go on and you have to try to back up this monster without a camera. I nearly killed a small child walking in front of the mother as he wasn't tall enough to be seen on the side mirrors or rear view. She hit the truck for me to slam on breaks. When driving on highway, it suddenly blacked out and rebooted. It will always eventually reboot, if dark, upon starting truck. When I brought it in for service mentioned above, the gentleman said "we couldn't make the trunk replicate what you were talking about and didn't want to wear down the battery. As for the touchscreen, it needed an update." Funny. no updates mentioned on Ford's site. I live in Scottsdale , AZ where our temps can get as high as 120 degrees. Everyone will tell you to not leave your phone or iPad in a hot car in our summer as the battery life will be shortened, display dims or goes black, cameras can be disabled and with some apps or features, performance is reduced with lower frame rates or increased processing times. SO.....couldn't this conceivably happen with the touchscreen on the Expedition? Also, the sign on the dash stated the other day, "no key recognized." The key was in my purse and then in my hand and I still could't start the car. I had to open the driver door and close to "reboot" and then it worked! Please help. I have read on different sites that this is common with other owners who live in hot climate. Thanks.

SERVICE BRAKES
Two issues with a brand new vehicle that is in the service department and they are unable to diagnose the issue. The major concern is regarding the braking system. While in a parking lot driving slowly (5-10 mph) the brakes suddenly locked up and the vehicle came to a complete stop. A message appeared reading "Brake system failure, have brakes serviced". The message then went away and the vehicle was able to continue. The other issue is a front sensor keeps beeping as if there is something in that area. The brake issue is concerning, if we were on the interstate traveling at 70 mph this could be a major safety issue and puts us in danger. The car only has 300 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a grinding sound coming from the transmission while changing gear. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while upshifting from second to third gear and while down shifting from fifth to fourth gear. During the failure the vehicle experienced hard jerking. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 20,000.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I wish to report critical safety issues with my 2021 Ford Expedition Max. The primary concern involves the vehicle’s electrical system, which has repeatedly malfunctioned, causing complete vehicle shutdown while in motion. 1.Failed Component/System: The electrical system has failed, characterized by flickering lights followed by total loss of power. The exact failing component within the system remains unidentified as diagnostics have not yielded error codes. 2.Safety Risks: These malfunctions have endangered my family’s safety by causing unexpected vehicle shutdowns, potentially leading to accidents, especially concerning because it happened once while exiting our driveway. 3.Dealership and Independent Service Confirmation: The issue has been examined by Kendall Ford in Prineville and an independent service center, neither of which has been able to replicate or diagnose the problem successfully. 4.Inspections and Confirmations: The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by certified Ford technicians without conclusive results. No external inspections by police, insurance, or other entities have occurred. 5.Warning Signs and Symptoms: Prior to these failures, there were no warning lamps or messages. The symptoms, including flickering vehicle lights, appeared suddenly and without prior indication. This vehicle’s reliability is compromised due to these unresolved electrical issues, and I am concerned it represents a broader safety risk for similar models. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these problems to prevent potential harm to other consumers. The contact was unable to drive and utilize the flat panel display. The large flat panel display angle was in an awkward position to use. The screen contrast and readability were poor. The contact was concerned about the random software updates. Additionally, the touch screen display was difficult to maneuver due to the lack of buttons or knobs. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle caught fire on February 29, 2024, with family members inside the vehicle. The fire appeared to start under the hood on the right passenger side, which would directly correlate with the current open recall. The family had just made a trip back from a basketball game and was dropping off a passenger when smoke was noticed. Upon further inspection, there was an active fire under the hood, which soon erupted into a burst of flames, causing the vehicle to be declared a total loss. Emergency responders had to be called to the scene to alleviate the fire. The fire report depicts a vehicle malfunction as the cause of the ignition. Ford has made no efforts to contact the consumer regarding the fire and subsequent damage.

We started to notice some body issues -rear side fenders popping out, the front grill popping out,, the inside screen would go blank, fuel tank lid pops open. As if this was not enough - we then encountered more issues - sunroof was falling on our heads, the step up railing is falling apart....WAIT- there's more - paint coming off the hood...And to top it all off - there is a cracking noise thru the inside. We cannot control the noise. We lose all function and use of controls (radio, climate, etc.).

Upon starting vehicle, loud pop sound and then excruciatingly painful white noise throughout the sound system. No controls will work to turn audio down. Upon shutting vehicle off, painful white noise continued for another 10sec or more. Waited a few minutes tried again, same thing happened with sound. Unable to drive vehicle with sound this loud. Tried 5x to shut off vehicle and restart, white noise continued. Hours later, ears are still ringing the noise was so loud. No controls on the touch screen would work and even shutting off car, disconnecting all phones excruciating white noise continues.

POWER TRAIN, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
When driving down the road and it does not matter what speed I am going, is when this issue is happening to most. I will be driving and out of the blue the tachometer will just drop to zero (0) and I lose all power and the vehicle starts shaking vigorously back and forth until it decides what gear the transmission wants to be in. It is doing this every single day, and it almost made me wrecked the other day. I do not even have 70,000 miles and it will be three years old in April 2024. I have called Ford and reported the issue as well. I have researched the issues, and many other Expeditions are having the same issue years 2020-2022. I am asking for Ford to take a serious look at all the car crashes from this exact issue. I do know the F150 are recalled with the exact transmission that is in the Expeditions. The transmission on Thursday 2-22-24 after driving and parked, put the car in drive then it did not want to get out of parked and do into drive or reverse.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
At approximately 13:12 CST on [XXX], I exited the car wash at a gas station in Rochester, MN. I drove around to the front of the gas station to park so I could go inside to replenish the car wash card. At approximately 13:13 CST, as I was turning right, pulling into the parking space near the entrance, the truck accelerated unexpectedly and collided with a cement parking pilon (sp?). I am unsure how this occurred. I believe the vehicle may have accelerated on its own. Holding my foot hard on the brake, I shifted into reverse, then backed the truck up about 2 feet from the pilon, turned off the vehicle and went outside to assess the damage. There was front end passenger side damage to the vehicle and the pilon casing was ripped and the top was pushed halfway off. Thank God that pilon was there to stop the vehicle and avoid hitting the building or pedestrians. At the time I was parking I am sure I was driving less than 5 mph, but I am unsure how fast the vehicle got to in that 15-20 foot acceleration. When the vehicle hit the pilon it was very jarring. The impact threw my glasses off my face, flung my backpack from the passenger seat to the front passenger floor, and caused my cases of soda pop and bags of groceries in the trunk area to shift forward and to rip the paper grocery bags. My right thumb and the right side of my neck were sore that evening and I had a minor headache as well. This Ford Expedition Max has approximately 35K miles on it. It is a well maintained company fleet vehicle. There were no warning lights prior. I wonder if water from the carwash got into something electrical or if there is some other defect that caused a sudden acceleration? In December of 2023 (not even one full year after purchasing my brand new Ford Expedition) I used the FOB to remotely open the trunk on my 2022 Ford Expedition. Upon doing so, I heard popping and cracking sounds. I didn't see any damage, so I didn't think anything of it until I drove on the interstate and immediately heard a violent slapping noise coming from the back of my vehicle. I took the truck to the dealership (where I purchased my vehicle). They inspected the vehicle and said that the spoiler is misaligned and loose - causing the sound and also resulting in a dent on the roof of the vehicle. The dealership said that Ford would not cover the repair under their FULL BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. Three other people with new Ford Expeditions at my dealership have experienced this exact issue. (Also a simple Google search of "Ford spoiler issue" will demonstrate that many others have experienced this issue.) I am extremely nervous to drive my vehicle anywhere as it sounds and feels like the spoiler is going to fly off of the vehicle especially when I drive on the interstate. This is a HUGE safety issue. The spoiler is loose and could fly off on the highway and cause an accident or hit another vehicle. NHTSA is aware of this issue and submitted an SSM to Ford [XXX] ), but Ford will not recall or cover repairs to their vehicles that have a defect and pose a safety risk.
