2020-2021 Audi Driver Assist Malfunctions TSB 2063502/4

Audi has released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2063502/4 to address various Audi driver assist malfunctions affecting certain 2020-2021 models. This TSB, dated January 6, 2022, supersedes TSB Group 91 number 21-43 dated October 20, 2021. The bulletin provides a software update to optimize multiple driver assist features and resolve associated issues.

Symptoms

• Lane Change Assist/Intersection Assist: The system may sporadically stop working. One of the following messages may be displayed in the instrument cluster:
  • "Intersection assist: fault. Please contact service."
  • "Side assist and exit warning system: fault. Please contact service.”
  • "Rear cross-traffic assist: fault. Please contact service."
  • "Audi pre sense: fault. Please contact service.”
• Traffic Sign Recognition: The traffic sign based speed limit settings are not permanently stored and are lost with every ignition cycle.
• Adaptive Cruise Assist (ACA): In vehicles with steel suspension, ACA may disengage or lose calibration when towing a trailer or using a bike rack.

Important Warnings

Owners and technicians should be aware of several critical instructions and warnings related to these Audi driver assist malfunctions:

• Specific B200FF9 Exclusion: This TSB does NOT apply to DTC B200FF9 if it is stored in the driver assist systems control module, J1121 (address word 00A5). For that specific condition, refer to PSS 2061489: PSS 90 Pre sense malfunction/driver assist systems sporadically inop, DTC B200FF9 is stored in the driver assist module.
• Pre-Update Requirements: All outstanding campaigns must be completed prior to running this update. Please familiarize yourself with all steps of this update before proceeding.
• Risk of Bricking Control Module: If any warning messages are displayed in the instrument cluster, those have to be addressed prior to updating the vehicle. Running the update with active instrument cluster warning messages may brick the driver assist control module, J1211 (address word 00A5).
• Event Data Recorder (EDR) Backup: Federal law requires the airbag's Event Data Recorder (EDR) to be backed up prior to running the update in this TSB. This is required only for MY20 Audi e-tron quattro and Audi e-tron Sportback. For all other vehicles, skip to Step 4 of the procedure.
• Third-Party Modifications: The dealership/workshop, Audi of America, and/or Audi AG are not liable for third-party modifications, such as undocumented retrofits, non-genuine accessories, or any other modification not approved by Audi of America that might be rendered inoperable by this update.
• Update Method: Always start the update out of ODIS. Do NOT perform the update via the red engineering menu (method 2) unless you have been given prior approval from TAC.
• Customer Personalization Settings: This update includes multiple control modules. Certain customer personalization settings might be reset to factory settings by this update.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair involves a software update using an ODIS Tester and specific SVM codes. The approximate time to complete the update is 60-120 minutes, including 50-110 minutes for the software update and 10 minutes for the SVM work.

1. Determine Control Module Designation: Use ODIS to determine the driver assist systems control module (zFAS), J1121 (address word 00A5) system designation.
2. Select Required SD Cards/USB-C Drive: Based on the zFAS system designation, select the appropriate media:
   • zFAS Var A: No SD Card is required.
   • MY20 Audi e-tron quattro and Audi e-tron sportback (zFAS Var B/C): SD Card P/N 4N0906961AR is required.
   • All other vehicles (zFAS Var B/C): USB-C drive P/N 4N1906961 is required. An SD Card can be used if the vehicle has a built-in SD Card reader.
3. Customer Consent & EDR Backup: Have the customer sign the declaration of consent (available in TSB attachments) and upload a picture/scan to DOC-IT. For MY20 Audi e-tron quattro and Audi e-tron Sportback, back up the airbag's Event Data Recorder (EDR).
4. Run ODIS Test Program: In ODIS, run the test program "J234 – Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2061023" via "Choose self-test" >> 0015 – Airbag – J234 >> 0015 – Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). Ensure the diagnostic session results are uploaded to GFF Paperless.
5. Update Peripheral Control Modules: Update the peripheral control modules using SVM code FASISKD5A001. This update takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
6. Exit Flash Context: Exit the flash context in ODIS to enable subsequent steps.
7. Update zFAS Application Software: Update the zFAS application software using SVM Code FASISKD5A002. This update takes about 30 minutes.
8. Perform Bus Sleep Cycle: After the update, allow the vehicle to perform a bus sleep cycle by:
   • Exiting the flash context.
   • Switching the vehicle's ignition off.
   • Removing the battery charger and diagnostic interface dongle.
   • Closing the hood, trunk, and all doors, then locking the vehicle.
   • Waiting approximately six minutes without handling the vehicle.
