Phantom braking occurred while traveling eastbound from Austin to Houston on US 290. Vehicle was traveling 76mph and slowed to quickly to 55 mph for no reason. There was a highway overpass about 75 yards away which may have triggered it, but no vehicles around us. Scared my wife and kids!!!

The contact owns a 2023 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while his grand-son was driving 40 MPH with his friend in the front passenger's seat, he depressed the brake pedal as he was approaching a stopped-occupied vehicle. A light indicating that the brakes were engaged illuminated, but the vehicle failed to respond. Additionally, the automatic emergency braking system failed to engage, and the vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front of him. The air bags deployed. The contact's grandson and his friend were able to exit the vehicle. The vehicle then turned off and locked, which rendered the vehicle unnoticeable by oncoming drivers. Another driver who noticed the incident parked behind the vehicle and activated the hazard lights to prevent other drivers from crashing into the vehicle. The contact's grand-son sustained a burn on the right hand from the driver's side airbag deployment. The friend and the other driver did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The contact's grand-son received first aid assistance from the ambulance. The vehicle was towed to a Tesla collision center, which denied assistance. The vehicle was then towed to a Collision center that was certified to work on Tesla vehicles. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

Respected Authorities, We bought Tesla Model Y in May of 2023 with our hard earned money, and next day or so we noticed a big paint mark on this brand new car.. Upon following up few times, Tesla agreed to repair this but they damaged further and after repeated visits, they agreed to replace the seat cover.. However, while replacing the cover, they damaged the side door coverings. Again after lot of follow up they agreed to replace that part as well. So, we thought we are happy but later we had to face very scary situations with this faulty car. The steering car completed locked while driving and had to face very dangerous situation. We are fortunate that the traffic was low in the street road, and if it was in highways, then it could have been fatal. Earlier, when we are reversing the vehicle in the garage the vehicle didn't turn well enough and the driver side mirror was hit the garage siding, and earlier to that when we are turning the car to the neighborhood the tire got touched to side walkway and threading was damaged. We strongly believe these could be the result of the steering wheel on and off locking in second which we are not sure at that time. As model y is new to us, we are not sure how that drives but now understand the issues clearly. We humbly reported all the above to Tesla Service, and they wanted to do steering wheel issue only and charge the other two... The important thing here is we were saved earlier due to the steering wheel issue but not sure if I we feel safe driving this car again. Kindly help us get some justice, and it would be appreciated if they take their car back and return our money in full. I purchased the car and took delivery on 12/29/2022 where immediately I noticed while driving the car home that there was a high pitch creaking sound from what I think is the front drive unit of the car. I have brought back the car to the service dealer over 8 times to rectify the concern of the noise. There were many service technicians that heard the sound while I test drove before the car went into service and they all acknowledged the sound and said it was not normal. However, the service techs had picked and choose which item they thought on the car that created this sound and this is documented on the service receipts/invoices. They kept taking my car apart and replacing parts on the car and when I would pick up my car the sound was still present int he car. Now I have had the car for 11 months and now the sound is STILL present and Tesla has no fix for this. The last service I brought the car in for for this high pitch sound and they replaced the front drive unit and still the noise is present.

I was driving in my Tesla Model Y to my sister's house. I went to park, stopping with the car facing the garage. Then, it suddenly accelerated and sped through the closed garage door. It slammed through the door, hit the walls, damaged the house and staircase and then finally stopped. It was so fast that I felt like it happened in a fraction of a second. like sitting in race car or ride I reported the incident to tesla on November 8th, the day this happened, and was asked to send pictures. I was told someone would contact me within a week, but I still haven't heard back from anyone. Currently, the vehicle is at a Tesla authorized collision center, and no one has looked at the reported issue. Collision center sent estimates for the repair

On the highway I set my cruise control. It registers as the max speed on the tesla screen. Regularly the max speed changes very suddenly and the vehicle brakes. For my most recent trip drove on the highway and this happened 3 times. The max speed changed from 78 mph (the speed I set it at) to 40 mph. Another time it changed to 45 mph and a third time to 55 mph. Sometimes there are cars directly behind me when this happens. The sudden change in speed on a highway is very dangerous. I have also reported this to Tesla.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Emergency Breaking in Autodrive mode. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My car auto breaked hard for no apparent reason when I was driving at 75 MPH on an open highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? There are plenty of articles online about Phantom Breaking. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, this happened yesterday morning on 11/18/2023. I plan to report this to Tesla today as well. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Not a single warning and this was the first time that this has happened to my vehicle. I was driving using auto drive at 75 MPH on highway at 8:45AM on 11/18/2023. All of a sudden, and for no reason, my Tesla Model Y slowed down within 3 seconds to around 45 MPH. This was completely unexpected as no other car, debris, person was near me. When I got. home that day, I read about phantom breaking with the Tesla. What happened to my car is yet another example of phantom breaking. This could have caused a major accident if there were more cars on highway at the time. Luckily no one was injured, but my daughter and I were in shock and shooken up.

- #11555855November 18, 2023STEERING, SERVICE BRAKES, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
I was driving at 64 mph utilizing the Adaptive Cruise Control and Autosteer (Beta). I was in the first of a two lane divided highway with no vehicles within 1000 feet in front of me and several cars passing me on my left. Fortunately, I had both hands on the wheel at the 10 and 2 positions and have good arm strength. Suddenly, abruptly and violently the car took over the steering and braking swerving to the left about a foot or so then applying the brakes hard while simultaneously turning the front wheels about 65 degrees to the right. I believe another vehicle without the Tesla's low center of gravity would surly have rolled over. I was now heading across the breakdown lane towards the guardrail. With great effort I took over control of the steering just 1-2 feet from the guardrail pulling hard left and pressing down on the accelerator (to release the brakes) causing a second roll over feeling. I then turned right to straighten the car out and continued down the highway in the same lane without contacting any objects. I felt the violent nature of the swerving in my lower back and left arm. The car did not want to release the steering to me. I have no evidence other than the experience of my wife and me. I was coming off a white concrete bridge deck with a slight left curve without any lane markings. At the moment of the incident the bridge deck was covered with a large area of black tar. I believe these two factors caused the car to go into some kind of avoidance maneuver. I also believe a lesser capable driver may have been killed.

My car has had a problem with TACC since the day I bought it. Brakes aggressively in what should be a normal driving situation. For instance, when I pass a semi truck on the interstate with my own lane in front of me, the car will slam on the brakes when it is beside the truck. Highly likely to cause a rear end collision.

On October 24, between 8:45 and 9:05 am, I was traveling on the highway with cruise control on and the car suddenly braked going from 75 to 30 rapidly. It was only me pressing the accelerator that kept it from coming to a complete stop. Fortunately, there was no one close behind. There wasn’t any traffic around me. I was passing an exit. I reported this to Tesla and they remotely investigated but said that the related cruise software and hardware was operating normally. This is extremely dangerous! I’ve checked Tesla forums and this is a known problem that they don’t seem willing to address.

Got into the car, put it in drive. Warning something like "steering assist not available". My wife was driving and could not turn the steering wheel. I made a service appointment and they returned an estimate for replacing the "PT SENSOR, HIGH PRESSURE (1510047-00-C)" qty 2 and the "PRESSURE TEMPERATURE SENSOR - LOW PRESSURE(1510048-00D) qty 1 and "WASHER, 1/2, STL ZN,SEAL.(1111739-00-A) qty 1 under warrantee.

On September 23rd our vehicles cruise control stopped working. We submitted a service request to Tesla and they scheduled a service appt for October 16th. They later cancelled this appt saying that it is a known firmware issue that would be corrected in a future, undetermined, firmware update. On November 16th we took the car to a Tesla service center and they confirmed it is a firmware issue, but could not correct it. We have now been without the adaptive cruise control function on our car for over 2 months with no idea when or if this problem will be fixed.

The process of the car losing control around 10:50am to 11:55am: We were driving on Woodgate Road and were making a U-turn. The car lost control just after the U-turn. The steering wheel spun and failed. The car sped up and the brakes did not work. The car hit the curb and the left tire burst. It went straight over. It was about 3 meters from the sidewalk to the hillside covered with weeds, and it was impossible to stop because the hillside was too steep.

I was driving my car when the touch screen completely locked and would not respond to any touch input. I had the seat heaters on high and was unable to shut them off without rebooting the screen. It seemed safest to pull over to do the rebooting since it takes about a minute for the reboot to complete. I was able to safely pull over, reboot the touchscreen and then shut off the seat heater. Aside from being able to manage essential tasks from the touchscreen, I was thankful that I had physical control (stalks on the side of the steering wheel) that allowed me to park the vehicle without touchscreen control. My biggest concern coming out of this incident is that Tesla is delivering vehicles without the physical controls that may also be susceptible to the touchscreen lockup I experienced.

Tesla Model Y delivered six weeks ago, I engaged the "Auto Pilot" for the first time on my morning commute and it worked well for a few moments. Suddenly and without warning the vehicle applied full braking force from highway speed, so hard that it glazed the rotors. This happened on EB I-10 JWO I-15, an extremely busy interchange. With possibly divine intervention I was able to retake control of the vehicle, shut down the Auto Pilot and I swiftly returned the vehicle to speed, needing only a restroom on an emergency basis. Relevant factors could include low incident angle of the sun at dawn and being in a construction zone with lane markers not thoroughly scrubbed off.

On November 12, 2023, approximately 3PM, my family and I were traveling eastbound on Miramar Road, near Camino Santa Fe Road, San Diego, when we experienced an immediate and sudden braking of our vehicle (2022 Tesla, model Y), for no apparent reason. There were no warning lights or symptoms that would have exhibited any kind of problem with the vehicle. This sudden braking caused my wife, the driver, to panic and swerve. We were traveling at the posted road speed of about 50mph. Fortunately, there was no traffic and no other vehicles in the vicinity or there might have been an accident. We have not yet reported this incident to Tesla, the police, or anyone else. I am conducting my initial research. Coincidentally, my daughter just experienced a similar incident this morning in her 2017 Tesla, Model 3. She will file her own report. After hearing of the problem happening to my daughter I decided we need to file immediate reports and contact Tesla today.
