The contact owns a 2025 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45-55 MPH in a construction zone, the vehicle unintendedly veered towards the wall. The contact was able to steer the vehicle to the intended direction. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the Lane Departure camera was replaced. The contact also stated that the infotainment system displayed a gray image and could not be turned off. The dealer pushed the ON/OFF button of the infotainment system for an extended period, and the infotainment system was reset. The contact stated while driving 5-10 MPH, the vehicle came to a complete stop and shifted to park(P) independently. The contact stated that the engine had turned off, but the infotainment system was still on. The contact attempted to turn off and restart the vehicle and attempted to shift out of park(P), but the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact walked to the dealer and returned to the vehicle with a dealer's representative, who assisted the contact in restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was able to restart after several attempts and was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the Engine Auto START/STOP system. The engineers at the manufacturer and a consumer affairs representative advised the contact not to turn off the vehicle after the Engine Auto Start-Stop system engaged at a complete stop; however, the contact informed the engineers that the vehicle was in motion when it stopped and shifted to park(P) independently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 6,500.

Subject: Vehicle Safety Complaint – 2020 Nissan Murano, VIN [XXX] Dear NHTSA, I am submitting a formal Vehicle Safety Complaint regarding my 2020 Nissan Murano (VIN: [XXX] ) due to unresolved safety defects that match existing recalls. I have been notified of two recall campaigns affecting my vehicle model: 1. NHTSA Campaign 21V402000 (Steering knuckle/rear axle housing defect). 2. NHTSA Campaign 21V170000 (Transverse link/ball joint defect). Despite these active recalls being published in NHTSA’s database, Nissan Consumer Affairs has denied that my VIN is included, even though my vehicle is exhibiting the exact safety defects described: [insert brief description of your issues, e.g., steering instability, noises, or loss of control symptoms]. I have already provided Nissan with: - NHTSA campaign numbers - Recall notifications received through the Kelley Blue Book app - Documentation of my safety concerns Nissan has failed to provide a resolution. I request that NHTSA investigate whether additional VINs should be included in these recalls and ensure Nissan fulfills its obligations to correct these safety defects. I am prepared to supply copies of all recall notifications, correspondence with Nissan and, documentation of my vehicles defects upon request. I have done a lot of research on these Nissan Muranos and other Nissan models. There are recalls for this exact same issue on models 2015-2019 and I have a 2014. I have viewed many complaints and reviews that state owners also have problem with the CVT transmission. Mine is giving error messages and been acting up while on the interstate. It will jolt into 4 rpm and higher and stay there. This always happens on the interstate and has happened a few times on slower speed limit roads. Seems like the issue is mainly when the car is over 60mph on the interstate. It seems very dangerous and I know Nissan CVT transmission have been recalled. I only have 132,000 miles on my vehicle and many mechanics have told me that it should not be going out like this with this few miles.

AEB light was on so we took it into the St. Augustine Nissan dealership. They told us the ABS actuator needed replaced and there are now more lights including the ABS on the dash after they were in the car. They said the part was on back order since February and that there were about 70 people ahead of us in line waiting for this part. Hearing that I decided to check for recalls and noticed there were ABS recalls on other Muranos of the same year. This also keeps cruise control from working.

I purchased a 2023 Nissan Murano from Sunset Kia in Auburn, Washington. The vehicle was listed online with 37,334 miles and this was the mileage discussed throughout the sales process. However, after finalizing the paperwork and taking possession of the vehicle, I noticed that the actual mileage on the odometer was over 42,500 miles—more than 5,000 miles higher than advertised. I contacted the dealership immediately. They told me the discrepancy was due to a sales manager driving the vehicle during the time it was listed and that they "forgot to update" the mileage in the online listing. This explanation raises concern for me, as I believe I was misled during the transaction. If the odometer disclosure form and the listing did not reflect the true mileage, this may constitute odometer fraud or at least a violation of federal and state disclosure laws. I am requesting that this situation be investigated. I have documentation including screenshots of the original listing and text message communication with the dealership confirming the listed mileage.

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and started to coast. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and the dealer determined there was corrosion on the battery terminals. The battery cables were repaired. The dealer also mentioned potential engine failure. The engine was not repaired. The failure occurred 3 times. The contact stated that after the second failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the dealer was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The contact inquired about NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V774000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Hybrid Propulsion System). The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that after the third failure, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who claimed that the decoration the contact applied around the push-start button was causing a malfunction in communication. The failure persisted. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with alternator failure, and the alternator was replaced. The contact received a notice about an extended warranty coverage for the Control Variable Timing (CVT) valve. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer confirmed the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V774000 ( Engine and Engine Cooling, Hybrid Propulsion System) and under the extended warranty coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint – 2018 Nissan Murano Submitted by: [XXX] Vehicle: 2018 Nissan Murano VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of issue: Approx. 93,500 miles Location: Albuquerque, NM Date of issue onset: [XXX] Summary of the Problem: Shortly after my vehicle was serviced at a Nissan dealership, it began exhibiting serious mechanical and electrical issues. These include: - Transmission jerking and slipping between gears - Uncommanded RPM surging while accelerating - Occasional loss of power, particularly at highway speeds - Dashboard flickering, resetting, and other electrical irregularities - Brake caliper drag and significantly reduced gas mileage Third-Party Diagnosis: A certified independent repair shop reported the following: - Transmission malfunction (needs full replacement) - Dragging brake caliper - Engine overfilled with oil - Erratic RPM behavior Despite these findings, the dealership dismissed all concerns and returned the vehicle unrepaired, with no adequate documentation of the work performed. Additional Concerns: I believe the vehicle was accessed and tampered with while at the dealership. After their service: - My dashboard and door panels were visibly unsealed or repositioned - The vehicle was held for extended periods (multiple weeks) - No paperwork was provided showing any actual mechanical repairs I have before-and-after photographs and text messages confirming this timeline and change in condition. Safety Impact: The transmission failure, RPM spikes, and braking inconsistencies make the vehicle unsafe to drive. These problems pose a significant crash risk, especially in highway traffic or while merging. I’m submitting this report to NHTSA to contribute to any ongoing investigations related to this vehicle make/model and to help prevent further consumer risk. Additional Observation – Abnormal Heat After Driving After driving the vehicle, extreme heat can be felt rising from underneath the dr INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Submitted by: [XXX] Vehicle: 2018 Nissan Murano VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of issue: Approx. 93,500 miles Location: Albuquerque, NM Date of incident onset: [XXX] ⸻ Complaint Summary: My vehicle was in the custody of a local Nissan dealership for approximately 7 to 8 weeks total across multiple visits. When it was returned to me, I noticed signs of unauthorized access and tampering. Specifically: •Dashboard components were visibly loosened or unsealed •Door panels had been opened without any repair documentation •The center console had signs of disassembly •Vehicle returned with mechanical and electrical problems not present before service No official invoice or explanation was provided for these changes, and the dealership denied any responsibility. ⸻ Safety Relevance: The unauthorized access raises serious safety concerns. Unknown modifications or hidden damage to critical systems like the dashboard, airbag wiring, and center console can create fire risk, sensor malfunctions, or structural compromise. Additionally, the lack of disclosure or documentation means there is no clear service record explaining what was accessed or modified. ⸻ Supporting Evidence: I have photographic documentation of the vehicle before and after the dealership’s custody, as well as text messages showing the extended service timeline. These documents confirm that the condition of the vehicle changed significantly while in their possession. ⸻ Requested Action: I am requesting that NHTSA review this complaint for patterns of dealership negligence, particularly involving extended service holds followed by undocumented vehicle return with altered components. System: Exterior Lighting / Visibility / Unknown or Other VIN: [XXX] Mileage: Approx. 93,500 Date: October 2024 Issue: After a service visit, my headlights became excessively bright and misaligned. The windshield also began reflecting light in distorted ways, especially at night or in rain. I now experience glare, light flickering, and visibility interference. This makes night driving unsafe and was not present before the dealership visit. I believe the components may have been altered or coated without my knowledge. We bought our 2009 Murano new back when we were expecting our baby cause it was rated one of the safest suv on the market. For the most part besides some brake issues and the steering linkage that I had scheduled to have replaced last month its treated us well. Last month with our now [XXX] old daughter I took it to go to a concert an hr from our house. On the highway I felt it swaying which I found weird cause it was swaying from the rear of the vehicle not the front where the linkage is. We drove home slowly and the next day I dropped it off at our mechanics to have the linkage replaced and asked him to check out the sway I felt. He immediately called me after he got it on the lift and said I needed to head to the shop that our suv was JUNK! When I got there I could not believe my eyes and thanked God that I and even more my daughter made it home safely. My mechanic of 35yrs in business said we were lucky we didn't end up in the woods on the highway and that the entire rear k member/ frame is completely rotted out and the rear tires could have flown off at any moment. I have read that there is a recall on this issue but not in the salt belt states. That is ridiculous and is an excuse to not have to back your vehicle. We live in Dartmouth MA and have barely had any snow in the past 10 yrs to salt for and even if we had this hasn't happen to any other vehicles we own. 2003GMC, 2006 Saab and my wifes Jeep all gd. Whats the point of getting a safety check during the annual inspection when you know your frame is junk and its a death trap! How in good faith can you not back your products when this is clearly a major issue. Nissan needs to do the right thing and take care of the people who have taken care of them by buying there vehicles. This vehicle has always been meticulously maintained, washed constantly at car wash with the extra fee of undercarriage spray for what when its rotting from the inside out as you are aware off. Make it a recall before people get killed! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM O

[XXX] at 1378 miles received a malfunction warning light for lane departure. [XXX] at 1875 miles pulling out from my home to Railroad Street the engine started sounding really loud like a motorcycle engine and started to decelerate which could have caused an accident. Video was taken, vehicle was taken to Matt Bowers Nissan 7/11/25 and states issue could not be duplicated and that the engine noise is normal. Engine sounds really loud each time the vehicle is started and again was told by Service Technician Foreman Ken that he has seen similar vehicles with the same problem, and this is normal and preceded to tell me about other noises that I will here that is also normal. Here a sound like valves is tapping. New vehicle should be quiet, and this one is very noisy. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
