POWER TRAIN
Chevy transmissions for the following years of 2015-2019 have has extensive problems. They include hard shifting, break down, and full blown blowing up on consumers. This has cause consumers to fork out on average $6000 to have a transmission replacement. There is over 2000 people on reddit who have reported this issue and chevy/gm has not opened a recall due to the [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while reversing at approximately 2 MPH and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal was very difficult to depress. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to depress the brake pedal before the vehicle stopped. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he shifted into park(P) and turned off and restarted the vehicle and normal brake functionality was restored. POWER TRAIN
The transmission started shifting hard in second gear and also whines at higher RPMs. The code it’s throwing is a Torque Converter Clutch issue. We were put in danger because it almost stalled on the highway. It has been inspected by a mechanic. There were no warnings prior to the failure.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The message to restart the vehicle was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while the Auto START/STOP feature was enabled and disabled. The failure forced the contact's wife to shift into park or neutral before the vehicle would restart. The failure occurred several times while the contact's wife was driving the vehicle several times and stopping at the red light when the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to a dealer previously and the failure was not duplicated. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that unless the failure was recognized, the vehicle could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

My car it’s just 124400 miles and suddenly started to showing me a service safety restraint system then the airbag light goes on and shows that the hood is open when I start the car and stays like that for 20 seconds then goes off

Braking is diminished when vehicle is moving at slow speed and brake pedal is pressed. The vehicle brake assist engages by pulsing, increasing the braking distance by not stopping the vehicle no matter how hard the brake pedal is pushed. Emergency brake is used to prevent vehicle from colliding. This may be related to NHTSA 19V645

My transmission is slipping, my neighbor who's a mechanic looked at it and luckily this vehicle has a transmission dipstick, fluid level was still good but we checked the Trans filter and we saw metal bits. We did a transmission fluid change and filter. It's not doing as bad but still will need to get transmission and converter replaced. Talked to a few places and they all say that this transmission always having problems and need replaced. I have supposedly a warranty but fighting with dealership about coverage. The amount of regularly seeing problems with this transmission from repair shops surprised that there isn't a recall. They say they replace the style on my car all the time on gm products supposedly it comes from the Ypsilanti plant in MI.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle was smoking from the rear, and the ABS failed to operate as designed, causing the wheels to lock-up. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions. The service stabili-trak warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the wheel speed sensor had failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. EXTERIOR LIGHTING, AIR BAGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
*From day one of purchase there is a random, frequent loud buzzing/whining through the speakers(with our without the radio on). Dealership had no idea how to fix and Chevrolet said there was no known issue, so no help. *The running lights constantly short out. We continually replace them and they short out again! *We have replaced all four door handles! Cheap chrome plastic is not going to hold up. These should actually be metal to insure holding up! *The tires seem too big since they rub the fender well if you cut sharply to either side. You can actually hear them rubbing on the well as you cut hard to either side! *The dash cracked about five years after we purchased it. We kept it under our carport and this cracking was unacceptable! I called Chevrolet and they said there was no known issue or recall. We continued to ask our dealership to look for recalls on this. *There was a recall on our passenger side airbag. We tried to get it replaced and were told, no they could not. Takata went bankrupt, so sorry, Chevrolet will not replace air bag for you! *After a few years of not being able to use our front seat due to safety issues Chevrolet would not fix(defective airbag), we decided to save and get the airbag and cracked dash replaced on our own. Unacceptable! Proclaimed recalls should be tended to by manufacturer! *The cruise control just stopped working one day early on, no recall--not surprised:( *The fuel tank is cutting off at the pump as we try to put gas into the tank. This is problematic as the vehicle will not run without fuel! Currently fighting with this and contacting dealership to see if they can help at all. Everyone we know who has a Suburban or Tahoe has these same problems! These are all widespread problems/design flaws. Please look into these issues to make a better product!

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 5 MPH up the driveway, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, while the vehicle was idling, the engine shut off upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the fuel pump power control module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was on a national backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V739000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall because the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

SERVICE BRAKES, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
I purchased my vehicle after the recall 19V-645 regarding the brake pump was issued. My vehicle was a part of that safety recall, and the module was reprogrammed in September 2019 (N192268490-01). The pump has not been previously replaced according to service records. I purchased my vehicle from a dealership in April 2021. I recently (late 2023) started having issues with my brakes, having increased brake pedal effort, a hard brake pedal, and increased stopping distance. I have had the brake assist alert come on several times. The issue happens more frequently at lower speeds. My park assist alert also comes on regularly when applying the brakes. I have taken my vehicle to GM several times regarding the park assist issues, but they have only cleared the computer codes and cannot figure out why they keep coming back, as there is no detectable issues with the system. I have also brought my vehicle in due to the adaptive cruise control, as it has also caused issues while using it. It will often apply brakes if it detects a vehicle in another lane while driving, causing the vehicle to “slam” on the brakes going at high rates of speed (I.e. driving on the interstate at 80 mph) and has nearly caused accidents, as the vehicle becomes hard to control, and the risk of following vehicles not having the reaction time to avoid a rear-end collision is increased. My particular vehicle does not have an option to switch between regular cruise control, and adaptive cruise control. After talking with GM, they informed me the only way to “fix” the issue is to completely replace the module with an updated module that allows the option to turn off the adaptive cruise control, which is quite costly to the consumer. My vehicle is currently at a GM service department, and has been diagnosed that the brake pump has failed, and needs replaced. They are claiming that it is not covered under the recall. It is not covered under GM’s extended warranty due to mileage restrictions.

POWER TRAIN
Transmission sudden failure. We were driving down the road when we suddenly lost all power to the wheels. No ability to accelerate or maintain vehicle speed, only coast with the remaining speed we had like it was in neutral. No warnings or trouble light, no noticeable symptoms ahead of time. I would press the gas pedal and the engine would Rev high like it was in neutral. I had just pulled out into the flow of traffic and the cars behind me soon had to all come to a stop because i lost accelaration and had nowhere to go with parked cars along the side of the road. Luckily we were not on a really busy road and could eventually get out of traffic. I can only imagine how bad it could have been if I was in the middle of highway traffic, or going up a snowy hill, or trying to cross a divided highway, etc. The car had to be towed to the nearest dealership and is awaiting repair. The dealer says the torque converter failed and subsequently damaged the transmission fluid pump and will require the entire transmission to be replaced and cost us over $6600. It should be available for inspection but I guess you would need to contact Blaise Alexander Chevrolet of phillipsburg pa. I don't know if anyone else has inspected it. I suspect this is a very well known issue/defect. Other mechanics I talked with instantly guessed the failure before the dealer could tell us. I have the 6 speed transmission and I see there is a class action lawsuit for the similar 8 speed failures.

Originally we had an engine light come on upon the engine chugging and the vehicle lunging forward at times. The diagnostic showed a bad lifter on the passenger side. They then replaced the passenger side lifters. We asked them to replace both sides since this was a known problem with our year, make, and model. They said they weren't replacing both sides of the lifters. Luckily we were still under the warranty for this repair. Now, a little over a year later on the day we were taking it to trade in, the engine light came on and the engine started chugging again. I knew immediately what the problem was. I took it to the same dealership and they quickly diagnosed it with a lifter failure on the driver side. Unfortunately we are out of warranty at 80,200 miles. The vehicle is only 2 years old. We have been advised not to drive the vehicle until it is repaired. I should not be responsible for the cost of the repair when this is obviously a known defect with the lifters for my year, make, and model. They should have replaced all lifters when the vehicle was originally brought in for the passenger side lifter failure. This should already be a recall by GM for the amount of vehicles that have and will experience this lifter failure. There is actually a class action lawsuit filed against GM for the lifter failure.

While driving the vehicle on an extended road trip trip on the interstate the vehicle randomly shut off while driving at highway speeds. When the vehicle turned off all interior and exterior lights did not work. The engine turned off. In order to begin driving again the vehicle needed to be restarted. This issue happened 3 separate times. In between, the vehicle has been turned off. It is a safety issue to have your vehicle turn off randomly while driving at any speed. The issue has not been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle has been seen by the dealer and stated "they are unable to find any issue" There was not indication before or after the 3 events that would indicate issue.

The power steering on the vehicle had failed on December 10th, 2023. The sign was displayed on the dashboard for the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to Sunrise Chevy and stayed with them for a month for repair and they have been unable to repair the issue. They said the rack and pinion had gone bad on this brand new car. This is very dangerous as the safety of myself as well as others on the road are compromised due to faulty steering problems.

While turning at low speed steering went out engine shut off dash gauges, radio, hvac went off engine restarted dash information stated service trailer brake system and service stability system Turned wheel again same thing did this 2 more times then had to put vehicle in natural and restart manually This also has happened twice in the past week
