ENGINE
While coming to a stop on a highway, the engine started running very rough, shaking the vehicle constantly, and the check engine light came on and the ESC failure notice came on. We brought it to an independent repair shop that ran diagnostics and recommended the vehicle needed a new engine and should not be driven for risk of it seizing. They introduced us to the fact that there was a GM recall on this particular engine and production year. Upon taking the vehicle to the local Chevy dealership, they suggested that we first repair a failed cylinder lifter, but that there may also be crankshaft issues, but that it would be costly to determine this for sure and that it was likely more cost effective to replace the whole engine than approach the repairs in order. They also confirmed our VIN was not part of the recall so the replacement engine would be our responsibility. We had the engine replaced back at the independent repair shop. Given the recent recall expansion, I wanted to submit this, as it seems that a broader number of vehicles within the production years of this engine should be considered included in this recall.

operating vehicle as usual, in drive, when engine spontaneously turned off. Alerted by system to "push button to start again" and put me in neutral. Extremely dangerous while the vehicle was in motion. This is the exact same thing I read about in a 2025 recall of 2021-2024 model year Suburbans and other vehicles. Mine is a 2022 Suburban.

Found that SOS nor OnStar buttons were not working. Dealership checked telematics control module was failing. Service bulletins were issued for wide spread failures, however no recall notices were issued. The module failure will also prevent notifications in the event of a traffic crash. Estimated repair cost $900. A true safety issue that should require a recall.

ENGINE
My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine (LM2) has experienced a recurring engine oil leak involving the rear main seal/lower timing cover area. The vehicle has required repeated dealer repairs for substantially the same oil-leak condition, including major engine-related disassembly, but the leak has returned after repair. This is a safety concern because failure of the rear main seal or lower timing cover sealing system can result in loss of engine oil while the vehicle is being operated. A significant oil loss could potentially cause loss of oil pressure, engine damage or engine failure and resulting loss of propulsion while driving. Leaking engine oil also has the potential to contact hot engine or exhaust components, creating an additional safety concern. The problem has been inspected and confirmed by authorized GM dealerships and documented on multiple repair orders. This does not appear to be an isolated occurrence on this vehicle because substantially the same engine oil leak has required repair more than once. GM has previously issued service information, including Bulletin PIP5795, concerning rear main oil leaks on 3.0L LM2 Duramax engines where the rear main oil seal may move or become severely shifted out of position in the timing chain lower cover. I am concerned that repeated repair of this condition may not adequately address the underlying cause and that the oil leak could recur while the vehicle is being driven. I am requesting that NHTSA review complaints and repair data involving rear main seal/lower timing cover oil leaks on GM 3.0L Duramax-equipped vehicles to determine whether a broader safety-related defect exists.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle chugged, jerked, and lunged forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the spark plugs might need to be replaced. The contact stated that while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle chugged, lunged forward, made an abnormal clicking sound, and almost struck another vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The OnStar mobile APP displayed the messages "Engine and Transmission System - Please Schedule Service Now," "Transmission System Issue - Please Schedule Service Now," and "VVT Issue detected - Please Schedule Service Now". The contact was able to pull into a parking lot. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine lifter failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The telematics control module in this vehicle failed. A dealer diagnostic scan on 03/09/2026 at 67,839 miles documented the following active and history codes: U0198 Lost Communication with Telematics Module, reported independently by the Radio, Body Control Module, and Instrument Panel Cluster Control Module; U0499 Invalid Data Received from Telematics Module, reported by the Engine Control Module; U1962 Unable to Authenticate Serial Data Message; B1A1F Ethernet Bus 4 (+) Circuit Open with a Low Voltage/High Temperature symptom; and P00FF Body Control Module Requested MIL Illumination, listed as Current. As a result, the check engine light is commanded on. All OnStar functions are inoperative, including Automatic Crash Response and Emergency SOS, which are safety systems. The OnStar button has no illumination at all. Remote functions and vehicle connectivity are dead. No warning message or notification of a module fault was ever displayed in the vehicle. The infotainment system reports “Your Software is Up-to-Date” and the Device Registration screen reports “Registered.” The last over-the-air software update this vehicle received was in August 2023

2022 chevy suburban diesel. Severe paint chipping and rust around windshield and top of truck. Midnight blue is the color and chevy is not covering the his defect of it destroying my truck right now complete rust and chunks of paint chipping away on the windshield it is so noticeable how bad this is chipping. And whole top of truck and front paneling show same signs everywhere of bubbling ready to chip away soon. The corrosion on truck that should not occur On a 4 year anniversary or truck from chevy a 2022! I’ve been asking for this for months as 9,500 for a paint job quote for something that it shouldn’t need to be done a paint job with rust. Chevy needs to step up and fix this. I’m a mother to 7 daughters and we need this vehicle.

The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V739000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving on the highway, the vehicle experienced reduced engine power and failed to exceed 30 MPH. A message pertaining to the deceleration was displayed. The following Monday, the vehicle failed to exceed 35 MPH, and a friend followed the contact while driving to the dealer. The dealer recommended a fuel filter replacement. The contact declined the repair because the fuel filter life was at 47%; however, the dealer proceeded with the replacement. The contact provided the diagnostic trouble code to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the failure was associated with TSB Numbers: 20-NA-197 and 18-NA 361. The contact then advised the dealer of the TSBs, and the dealer determined that the fuel pump module and fuel tank module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the second-row passenger’s side seat belt buckle failed and was replaced under an extended warranty, although the part was previously replaced under a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failures several times, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 92,709.

Pulled out in 4 lane traffic. Got almost to 55mph. Vehicle lost all power, slowed down and auto shifted to neutral, vehicle stopped and went to park. Vehicle would not start back nor transition to Neutral to remove from highways. 2021 suburban with just 35,000miles. Shut down a lane on a 55mph highway. Code P129F
