- #11660025May 9, 2025STEERING, POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The first indication of a problem was a red "SERVICE CHARGING SYSTEM NOW" message at 121 total vehicle miles and continued to be intermittent. The vehicle was returned to the selling Ford dealership the next day. After a day in the service department, they were unable to duplicate the problem. This same message reappeared sporadically, but did not seem to affect the safe operation of the vehicle. At approximately 1460 miles the red "SERVICE CHARGING SYSTEM NOW" and many other messages appeared while I was on an interstate traveling at 70mph. As I started maneuvering for the nearest exit, the steering would not respond without using EXCESSIVE force, creating a dangerous, unsafe situation. I managed to safely exit the highway and park the vehicle. It would not reset or operate normally. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Ford dealer. After 3 weeks of troubleshooting, they replaced the main AGM 12V battery (Part Number BAGM 94RH7 800) and the DCDC Converter (Part Number ML3Z 14G649 F). These components may be available from Astro Ford in Biloxi, MS for inspection.

The component that failed was the transmission and the power train control module. The vehicle and component is available for inspection. My self and passenger were at risk while pulling out onto the highway and the vehicle had a sudden transmission downshift. This disabled the vehicle in the highway while merging into oncoming traffic. The problem has been confirmed by the Ford Dealership and a repair estimate has been provided for the transmission and PCM (Powertrain control module) The vehicle component has been inspected by Ford the manufacturer. There were no warning symbols, lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to they failure.

Was driving approximately 55 MPH on a busy highway when all of a sudden vehicle lost all power and check engine and service lights came on. I had to immediately try and merge to the side of the road which created a unsafe situation causing traffic to slow immediately behind me so that I could coast to the side of the road and into a parking lot. Engine still running, transmission issue. Felt like it was in neutral; however vehicle selector was in drive. Had vehicle towed to dealer and was told it is an internal transmission issue and that I need a new transmission. They want to charge 11K to replace with new one. Ford rebuilt this transmission at approximately 29k due to issues and 80k miles later having issues again. This transmission always shifted hard and would drop down in gear while traveling creating an unsafe situation. Ford knows about the issues with these transmissions in the 2018 year F150's and hasn't implemented any recalls, only TSB's that don't fix the issue. I am still getting quotes from other repair shops to replace the transmission.

- #11660055May 9, 2025EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The passenger side rear tail light assembly (with built in blind spot unit) has noticeable condensation in the unit. This has intermittently caused a hyper blink situation with use of hazards and directionals, as well as causing the lamp assembly to not function at all creating a lighting and safety hazard. I have had this evaluated by the dealer, and was quoted $2,453 for a new light assembly that is not even three years old. On the [XXX] forum, there are numerous other owners that have had the same issue on either or both tail lamp assemblies. First, when the truck is at a stop (red/stop sign), acceleration fails, resulting in a sudden, hard jolt into gear or a complete loss of power. Near rear end collision occurrence avoided several times. Second, while driving 0-30MPH there is a constant hard swift into gear causing a forward/backward jolt of all passengers. Last, and most significant, is the sudden loss of power experienced with highway driving. While driving 75-80MPH, sudden deceleration occurs. The gears shift spontaneously from 8/9 down to 1. Speeds are not capable of being manually controlled, by the driver, at that time. What happens next, is either a sudden jolt into gear following deceleration or complete Loss of power. Collision was avoided by pulling off to the side of the road. This sudden deceleration occurs also when attempting to merge into highway traffic. Here again, a rear end collision was narrowly avoided. The truck was serviced to evaluate the cause of this issue, by independent service station technician (vehicle no longer under warrant). They stated that the transmission was the problem and, after consulting with Ford, a computer upgrade was performed. This unfortunately had no impact on the above problem, despite following the recommended "break in" time. Currently the truck is not operable as the transmission is too unpredictable and erratic, rendering it unsafe to drive. This truck currently has only 46,000miles. Ford customer service was notified of this problem who in turn suggested we contact NHSA regarding this complaint. Incidentally, a family member with the same year, make and model truck had the transmission replaced, just this month, because of similar power train operational issues. I encourage the NHSA to evaluate this matter, as POWER TRAIN FAILURE is a known issue with this particular vehicle. Most importantly, this is a concern which poses a significant impact on overall public safety.

The 10R80 transmission slipping in 1st gear, the engine will rev to 2000 rpm and without warning the transmission slams into gear causing the tires to spin. The loss of ability to engage into gear caused me to need to pull over to the side of the road on two separate times. This has happened when the transmission temperature is cooler. The failure occurs unexpectedly. I have brought the vehicle to a local transmission repair business.

Major transmission failure that causes sudden unintended downshift to first gear, even at high speeds. This occurs often and randomly without warning, causing the engine to "redline", rear tires to slide and the vehicle to come to a near sudden stop. This is an extreme safety concern, especially in slippery road conditions as the vehicle could overturn or slide off the road or at a minimum be rear-ended for suddenly stopping unexpectedly on a freeway. This is a widely known problem by Ford. The local Ford service manager admitted that his 2013 F150 has the same issue and he continues to drive it because he tried fixing it by replacing the Molded Lead Plate in the transmission and that didn't resolve the problem. Remember, I noted this is a Ford Service Manager! Ford has issued a recall (24S37); however, the prescribed solution is to have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software updated and that prescribed fix actually makes the sudden downshifting happen more often. This is the cheapest, band-aid solution that Ford hides behind so they can say that they are addressing this issue. A second Ford dealership down the road actually admitted that they have identified that the recommended software update actually makes the problem worse and they practically refuses to perform the software update for their customers. After several discussions with Ford's Recall Assistance Team and several discussions with a local dealership's service manager, Ford is not willing to do anything more, despite this major safety issue not only not getting resolved, but actually has gotten worse due to their band-aid approach of a software update. In my case, if further diagnosis is to be performed, I have to be the one that covers that cost and also I would be the one to cover the cost of repairs. To me, this is completely unacceptable. The rational that Ford uses to deny accountability is that the vehicle's computer doesn't register any DTC codes when the incident occurs.

- #11659840May 8, 2025EXTERIOR LIGHTING, STRUCTURE:BODY
The rear light bar and reversing lamp assembly, which was part of a safety recall, is filled with water and the lights are malfunctioning again. Ford is telling me that the replacement part has a 1 year warranty so that I would have to pay over $1600 for a replacement. This is a widespread issue with many of these trucks. Ford admitted that it was a manufacturing defect with the original part. However, the replacement part has the same issue so it is my belief that Ford has not fulfilled their duty to adequately repair an obvious safety issue and should be held responsible for the replacement of this part at no cost to the vehicle owner.

The problem is not a safety issue but needs to be addressed for recall. There is a underbody shield called the splash guard or skid plate. It's a cloth shield that covers the oil pan. It's make of some kind of cloth instead of a metal. It fell off jan 17, 2025, the first time and I was charged $154.83. I was told this wasn't covered under warranty and it gets wet, freezes and comes off. At this time I saw 4 other f150s with this piece of cloth dragging under their trucks. This shows me that it happens to alot of f150s. This just happened again 4/11/2025. There was no snow to blame this on. After checking Google for this I see there was some 185,000 recalls fromm 2000 throughout 2022. My truck is a 2022 but wasn't covered under the recall. Again this piece came off and I filed a complaint with ford customer service because I refuse to pay for another factory defect. They suggested I file a complaint with you so here I am.
