The problem first appeared after I bought my car to the dealership to replace an amplifier. Since then, my car has been there twice and they have not been able to identify the problem. I’m going back-and-forth with the dealership and hyundai corporation. after numerous incidents with my other vehicles, I no longer trust this place to repair and at this time it’s a safety issue while I’m driving. I work in a school district in [XXX] when the kids are around I need my front and back up cameras to work. it’s a safety concern for me and I need your advice. - #11726498March 23, 2026TIRES
Brand/Model: Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra Size: 235/60R17 DOT Code: 1W281AAU11925, W281AAU1025, W281AAU14124, W281AAU10525 Purchase Date: July 28, 2025 I am reporting a catastrophic and unpredictable treadwear failure on a set of four (4) Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (80,000-mile warranty / 800 UTQG). Despite professional maintenance, these tires have degraded to a legally bald and unsafe state (2/32") in less than 8,000 total miles. The tires exhibited a sudden "melting" effect. On October 31, 2025 (Odo: 28,330), a third-party inspection verified a safe tread depth of 9/32" with even wear. However, by February 20, 2026, the tires had dropped to 3/32", and by March 20, they reached 2/32". This represents a loss of 7/32" (70% of usable tread) in only ~3,800 miles. This rapid, non-linear degradation creates an emergency safety hazard, as the tires lost wet-weather traction and hydroplaning resistance in less than 30 days between service checks. Maintenance History: The vehicle (2022 Hyundai Tucson) has a documented history of proper care: Professional Alignment: September, 2025 (Insurance-certified). Tread Verification: October 31, 2025 (Confirmed 9/32" and even wear). Rotation Service: February 20, 2026 (Performed at 7,500-mile interval). The failure is global across all four tires, including the non-driven rear axle, indicating a fundamental rubber compound defect. Retailer (Costco)has denied warranty support, citing "rapid wear" as a non-covered issue, despite the tires failing 72,000 miles before their engineered lifespan. This defect leaves the consumer on the road with unsafe, bald tires that failed without warning.

I am submitting a vehicle safety complaint regarding my 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The vehicle has a recurring engine warning issue (code P0471) that has not been resolved despite multiple repair attempts by an authorized Hyundai dealership. Additionally, there is a concerning discrepancy regarding vehicle usage while in dealership custody. My records indicate a substantial increase in mileage during service, which is not reflected in official service documentation. This raises concerns about vehicle handling and accountability. Hyundai has declined to escalate or properly address the issue and has advised that they will continue repair attempts without further resolution. Given the recurring nature of the issue and the lack of accountability, I am concerned about potential safety risks. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and recorded as part of any ongoing safety investigations.

The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light was frequently illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to various independent mechanics and was informed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer for service, and upon inspection, the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was provided with an estimate for the engine replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was initially informed that the vehicle was covered under warranty; however, the contact was later informed that there was no warranty on the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

Multiple times the vehicles forward collision system has slammed on the brakes almost causing rear end collisions. Usually will occur when vehicle in front begins to brake, but the car will slam on the brakes to a sudden stop rather than coasting to a stop. This will occur even while my foot will be pressing the brakes.

While operating the vehicle, an intermittent audible warning sound occurs without any corresponding alert, message, or notification displayed on the dashboard or infotainment screen. The specific component or system causing the warning is unknown. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This condition puts my safety at risk because the unexplained warning sound occurs while driving and causes me to divert my attention from the road in an attempt to identify the source or meaning of the alert, creating a driver distraction. The issue has been reproduced multiple times under normal driving conditions. I demonstrated the condition to the dealership and provided video evidence; however, the issue has not been diagnosed or confirmed, and no root cause has been identified. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, but no explanation or resolution has been provided. The manufacturer is aware of the issue through an open case. There were no warning lamps, messages, or prior indicators associated with this condition. The audible warning occurs without any visible alert or explanation. The condition began shortly after purchase in November 2025 and was later documented and demonstrated to the dealership in January 2026.

The Forward Collision Assist system applies hard braking when there is no danger. This happened twice today at low speeds (1-2mph) Once in a drive through and once in traffic in a parking lot. Luckily, the truck behind me did not rear end me. My concern is what if it starts doing this at higher speeds? I feel it is dangerous.

- #11725846March 20, 2026AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, STEERING
On March 13, 2026, I was operating my 2015 Hyundai Tucson when the steering locked up, causing me to crash into a tree head-on. In the course of this head-on crash, my airbags failed to deploy. As a direct result of my airbags not deploying in a serious car crash, my head hit the steering wheel, causing a confirmed concussion diagnosis of Post Traumatic Headache and Post Concussion Syndrome in a hospital emergency room. There were no lights or symbols on the dashboard prior to the accident. My car had a prior repair for a front end collision in a body shop and a replacement of the engine in a Hyundai dealership prior to the accident. My car is currently in a tow yard. There has been no inspection of my car by the manufacturer. I have since discovered that there are a number of complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ("NHTSA") from other Hyundai Tucson owners for the model years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2019, and 2023 complaining of the same defect in their Hyundai Tucsons – the failure of the airbags to deploy in serious car accidents. I believe this represents a systemic safety defect in the Hyundai Tucson airbag system that has not been addressed for the 2015 model year. This failure put my safety at serious risk and resulted in significant injuries that could have been prevented had the airbag system functioned as designed.

- #11725972March 20, 2026SERVICE BRAKES
I am reporting a repeated brake system issue on my 2024 Hyundai Tucson involving premature rotor warping and brake failure at very low mileage. On April 30, 2025 (11,007 miles), I first noticed significant vibration and shaking when braking. On May 29, 2025, Colonial Hyundai diagnosed the issue and resurfaced the brakes under warranty (Hyundai case #40826529). The issue persisted immediately after repair, and on June 13, 2025, I was informed that both front and rear brakes and rotors needed replacement. On June 19, 2025, all brakes and rotors were replaced under warranty, resolving the issue temporarily. Less than 8 months later, on February 12, 2026 (under 10,000 additional miles), the same braking vibration returned. The original dealer attributed the issue to driving behavior. At Hyundai’s direction, I sought a second opinion on February 26, 2026 at Piazza Hyundai of West Chester. They confirmed that the brakes and rotors again required replacement and indicated this was unusual for such low mileage. On March 16, 2026, despite the dealer’s findings, Hyundai Corporate declined to cover the repair under warranty. This vehicle has now required three brake-related repairs within a short period and low mileage, including resurfacing and full rotor replacement, followed by another failure. This pattern suggests a potential defect in the braking system, materials, or related components, rather than normal wear. Component/System Failed: The failure involves the braking system, specifically repeated warping/failure of front and rear brake rotors and premature brake wear. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. When braking, the vehicle experiences significant vibration and shaking in the steering wheel and chassis, which affects braking smoothness and control. This condition can reduce driver confidence, increase stopping distance, and may lead to loss of control during braking, particularly at highway speeds or in emergency stop.

This has happened at least 6-10:times. We park the car put it into park and the car lurches forward. Once the car hit a sign in front of it, a few times to hit the transient in the ground in front of the car. Car was taken to the dealer and the mechanic could not get the event to occur. Nothing occurs prior to the vehicle lurching forward. Issue has been reported to the manufacturer case number assigned but manufacturer refuses to do anything about the issue. Case number is XXX. As I have written to the manufacturer - we are concerned that this may occur with a sold wall, another vehicle or good forbid a human being in front of the car. On March 10, 2026, my 2017 Hyundai Tucson entered 'Limp Home Mode' while driving, a known safety defect that causes a sudden loss of engine power. Diagnostic testing confirmed error code P1326 (Knock Sensor Detection System - KSDS). Despite this vehicle being covered under the Theta II Engine Class Action Settlement (Recall 209), which provides a 15-year/150,000-mile extended warranty for this specific issue, the dealership (Jim Ellis Hyundai of Atlanta) is refusing to perform the warrantied repair. Instead, the dealership has provided an estimate (#XXX) attempting to charge me $816.22 for the knock sensor replacement. They are also withholding the full GDS diagnostic scan reports and freeze frame data despite multiple written requests. Furthermore, the dealership is threatening to charge daily storage fees while actively denying a mandated safety repair. This refusal to honor the settlement warranty leaves the vehicle in an unsafe, unrepaired condition. This vehicle is a subject of the In re: Hyundai and Kia Engine Litigation II settlement. The refusal of the dealership to perform the KSDS-related repair (P1326}) is a direct violation of the court-approved settlement terms and a failure to address a documented safety defect. I’d like to file a complaint regarding Hyundai Recall#290, a potential fire hazard with my cars “trailer wiring harness accessory module”, which Hyundai has not offered a remedy at this time. I spoke to Hyundai’s customer service representative yesterday (3/18/26) about this recall that’s now over a month old, and asked if I could get reimbursed for my out of pocket costs to remove the hitch’s wiring at a Hyundai dealership. The rep said Hyundai won’t pay for my out of pocket cost to remove the harness wiring because they don’t have an official “remedy” yet. My local Hyundai dealership said the cost to unplug/remove the wiring would be about $200, which in my opinion would solve the problem and certainly is a “remedy”. Hyundai refuses to reimburse me this cost even though they have a Hyundai recall reimbursement program for out of pocket expenses due to recall issues. My complaint: 1 - Hyundai has failed to provide a no cost recall remedy within a reasonable period of time. 2 - if I choose to pay for removal of the wiring, my out of pocket cost of $200 will not be reimbursed by Hyundai. 3 - Hyundai’s recall says I could continue to drive my 2024 Hyundai Tucson, but apparently if the car gets wet, the wiring could ignite and cause a fire, which I’m not very comfortable with. 4 - I don’t use the trailer harness module at all since I bought the car used from the original owner, so removing the entire harness would be a reasonable solution and allay the fire risk. Thank you.

- #11725467March 19, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On March 16, 2026, my wife was driving our 2025 Hyundai Tucson westbound on Immokalee Rd in Naples, FL. She was traveling at a speed of 35mph, with no vehicles in front of her, but the Emergency Braking system engaged without warning and caused our car to come to a screeching stop. Several cars behind my wife's car had to avoid slamming into to our car. There are no bridges, overhanging tree limbs or other structures over the roadway. The weather was clear skies and sunny, and the time of day was noon. After this incident, we contacted the dealership from which we bought the car (11/15/25) here in Naples. We brough the car in for diagnosis but have not heard back from them. While there, my wife was approached by a dealership salesperson who overheard our story, and she implored my wife to "please report this incident...this phantom braking issue is a big deal..." Our salesperson did not admit to having heard of such issues, but he offered to buy the car back from us. We will wait to see what their formal evaluation produces and make a decision at that time. This could have been a deadly accident if the cars behind my wife had not avoided running into her.

Vehicle: 2016 Hyundai Tucson Issue Category: Engine / Powertrain / Vehicle Safety Complaint: I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2016 Hyundai Tucson equipped with a Theta II engine. My vehicle first displayed an engine oil warning light. I immediately took the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership, where I was charged approximately $500 for an oil change and diagnostic testing. I was told there were no issues with the vehicle. Within approximately 20 miles of leaving the dealership, the vehicle suddenly entered limp mode while driving and displayed diagnostic code P1326. This created a dangerous situation as the vehicle lost power unexpectedly. I returned the vehicle to the dealership, where a software update was performed. However, within another 20–30 miles, the exact same issue occurred again, with the vehicle entering limp mode and triggering code P1326. Hyundai has now refused to repair the engine under warranty and is attempting to attribute the issue to a catalytic converter problem, despite the presence of code P1326, which is associated with engine rod bearing failure and is part of a known defect affecting these vehicles. This condition presents a significant safety risk, as the vehicle can lose power suddenly while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. I believe this issue is directly related to the known Hyundai Theta II engine defect, which has been the subject of recalls and a class action settlement. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Hyundai’s handling of these failures and their refusal to repair vehicles experiencing known engine defects that pose a safety risk

This car has major oil consumption that affects the engine and catalytic converter. This can cause engine damage and stalls in driving that affect safety on the roads because the car doesn't accelerate properly. There were no warning signals to indicate this being a problem with the car, especially at purchase. This car will get an oil change and in less than a week, the oil is gone and bone dry.

Purchase my new car December 2026. My car has done that with people are calling Phantom breaking three times since I bought the car within the first month and a half. I was doing [XXX] the first time and there was nothing there and it just dead stopped what if somebody had been behind me and I caused it big accident? It happened again when I was doing [XXX] and it just dead stopped with for no reason. I purchased this car because I have a concussion cuz my former car was totaled I feel like the safety feature is a safety hazard and I'm scared because I have a concussion and a neck injury that it's going to cause more damage. I have to click the button to stop the front assist so it doesn't happen. I took my car in to the shop where I bought it at Bud Clary in Auburn and they said that there was nothing wrong with it that maybe my good to go pass was in the way which I didn't even have my good to go pass up yet at that time. I'm scared and I just bought this car. I wish I hadn't but then I see that Honda is having the same issue. They need to come up with a fix. They said that the calibrated it and it was fine that they made some dang excuse but it's scary and I'm afraid to even drive my car INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11725269March 18, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Automatic braking engages when there is no actual hazard present and brings vehicle to a full stop. This causes a serious whiplash hazard to me and my passengers as our heads are thrown forward unnecessarily. It also significantly increases the risk of being rear ended by the vehicle behind me. This has happened on several occasions. Today it occurred because the car hit a small bump in the road while doing less than 10 mph. Google Search confirms that this is a widespread and well-known defect and that Hyundai has not been willing to release a software upgrade that allows owners to turn-off they automatic braking feature from the dashboard control panel. Immediate action by NHTSA is required before somebody gets seriously injured or killed by this defect.
