In October, 2025, the car gave the warning notice on the screen 'check electrical system' (or to that effect... i was at home, and put the car in drive, to get to a Doctors appointment. I drove about a mile and another notice came on to the screen to stop the car immediately. I did, and called Bluelink to have it towed (missed my Dr's appointment). The Capital Hydaid dealer in Greensboro, NC, took a day to get back to me, telling me that 'we only have one mechanic that works on the EV and he has 2 cars in front of yours and could not give me a ETA when they might know what was wrong. 5 days later they said it looks like it was something to do with the electrical and they doing diagnostics...a few days I went to dealer (to get some things out of the car) and they told me they were waiting on results. 3 days later I had to get something from the car which was in the same parking place - when I went to them saying it hasn't been moved, they said they were still waiting on Hyundai to proceed. It took almost 10 days and I had to rent a car until they were able to give me a loaner (ending paying for part of the rental because I wasn't told how much my daily rate would be reimbursed. Forward to [XXX]. Same issue, the car on both instances went into safe mode and limped to a safe destination. Towing it to the dealership, they said if it was the ICCU unit, it was on back order and no ETA... so another rental car (they did not have a loaner) and waiting to hear back from them... grrrrrr INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving 45mph car started flashing “electrical system failure pull over now” was able to pull over without accident but was terrifying and dangerous. We’d just had the ICCU recalled and replaced this summer. We had no issues before and bought the car Jan 31 2024.

On January 1st 2026 around 11am we were traveling in rural Wisconsin when we heard a loud pop from under the back seat . This we now know from Dahl Hyundai in LaCrosse was the ICCU failing . When this happened we were in blizzard conditions and the car forced us into limp mode and reduced us from 55 mph down to 25mph in bumper to bumper traffic on a rural hwy (this was not a smooth speed transition the car performed ) We drove the vehicle back to the nearest town going 25mph as it was alerting us that we were on limited battery as this issue in short time will make the vehicle inoperable . We found a safe place to stop and did so. We called Hyundai Roadside assistance who then let us know it would be 9 minutes until we received help. This would actually take 4 more hours . They left us with a car that did not operate , produce heat in a blizzard . We eventually had family pick us up so we were safe . We still do not have the vehicle back as Hyundai America has the part (ICCU) on back order with no ETA of repair. .

Multiple 12v batteries, the battery management system, and ICCU have all failed on my Ioniq 5. During my 13-month lease, this vehicle has been inoperable for more than 30 cumulative days due to the same recurring defect. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Hyundai dealership multiple times, but the defect was repeatedly misdiagnosed and not corrected, resulting in continued failures and extended loss of use. The defect causes sudden loss of power and complete vehicle shutdown, including the inability to restart the vehicle. If this occurs while driving, it creates a serious safety hazard by eliminating propulsion, power-assisted steering, and braking assistance. The vehicle may become disabled in traffic or at intersections, increasing the risk of a collision, injury, or stranding occupants in unsafe conditions.

My new 2025 Ioniq 5 that has 8,700 miles on it suddenly popped up the message "check electric vehicle system" warning as we were driving in our neighborhood. My husband then realized that he could not drive over 30 mph just as he was merging onto our local Highway in a 65 mph zone. We limped along until the next turnoff and turned around. We decided to take the chance to get back onto the highway for a the short distance back to our house at 30 mph and returned the car to the garage. It was towed this morning to the dealership and declared to have a failed ICCU unit. All parts are back ordered indefinitely.

What failed: On February, 6, 2026, I experienced a complete failure of my Ioniq 5's electrical system due to the ICCU failing. Heard a loud "pop" and eight seconds later it reported a warning to check the vehicle's electrical system and 24 seconds after the pop it then chimed repeatedly saying to pull over immediately and come to a complete stop. The vehicle is currently at a nearby My safety: Once I was able to hobble the car off the side of the road, it left me in a dangerous situation. The vehicle was such in a state that the hazard lights were not operational and I had no way of getting any heat. (It was 20F with a wind chill down to 14F.) It also happened in a bad part of town, meaning that I did not want to leave the vehicle unattended for a tow truck. This also occurred 60mi from home. Reproduced: The dealership it was towed to is not open until Monday, February 9, 2026 but the tow's rescue battery made the system run enough to report the Diagnostic Trouble Code of "P1A9096". Doing a quick search online for that shows a number of cases with the same problem. While waiting for the tow, I tried to start the car a number of times to no avail. Inspected: Not yet, see "Reproduced" section above. Any other signs/symptoms? Nothing until the "pop" itself. Once that happened, basically every warning icon showed up on the instrument cluster/screen.

This vehicle underwent an ICCU failure. I heard a pop from the back seat and my vehicle went into a "turtle mode" and had an electrical system warning. Resulted in a tow back from the grand canyon all the way to Phoenix, AZ. This left my girlfriend and I stranded, and caused unnecessary anxiety and discomfort. If this occurred on a highway, the result could have been dangerous. Hyundai has said that only 1-2% of Ioniq vehicles experience an ICCU failure. But from all the evidence and first hand accounts I have heard online this is grossly under reported. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for this failure.

ICCU failed. Car had gone into turtle mode on the highway and was brought to the dealership who could find no problem. Fortunately the ICCU went fully bad at home so safety was not a concern as it could have been. Also I have reported that the lack of a preconditioning button on the touchscreen creates distracted driving. One time I had to wade through navigation menus to disable since I would not make it to a charging station in time (the distance for charge was over 100 miles off). Another time it had to be tricked into turning on because it did not recognize any of the chargers on the NJ Turnpike.

The ICCU on our 2024 IONIQ 5 (VIN: [XXX] ) failed on January 4, 2026, along with the 12‑volt battery. The vehicle had only 5,034 miles on it and was just 12 months and 14 days past our purchase date of December 21, 2024. At the time of the incident, the car was charged to 79% when it suddenly entered turtle mode. We were close enough to home to return safely, but the following day the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. The dealer informed us that the car had completely lost power and that both the ICCU and the 12‑volt battery had failed. We have now been waiting five weeks without a replacement part. We have also learned that Hyundai has not yet implemented a design fix for the underlying cause of ICCU failures, despite widespread reports from owners. We consider this a significant safety concern. Had this failure occurred on a highway—especially in sub‑zero temperatures—it could have put us and other drivers at serious risk. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) has intermittent failures. During the last failure, my wife was on a busy freeway (Interstate 5 near Hwy 120 northbound) in heavy but fast moving traffic. She was driving in the #2 lane (of 4 lanes) when she experienced sudden loss of propulsion. The vehicle slowed to 5 MPH in traffic that was moving 70 to 80 MPH. She had to traverse through the #3 and #4 lanes to the narrow emergency shoulder. Cars were honking and flipping her off. In the emergency lane, the vehicle completely died after 30 to 60 seconds. She was at risk of being rear ended during the dangerous 5 MPH lane changes and in the time parked in the emergency lane. She could not start the car for 15 minutes, after which the system came back to life. She was then able to start it and continue home. The first time the ICCU failed was in a parking lot. This is a known defect with Hyundai which they have attempted to rectify with Recall Campaign 272. However, they refuse to replace the ICCU. After the first event, they replaced the battery after 22 months/32429 miles. Now they want to replace the battery again after another 20 months/34k miles. What they don't get, is that the batteries have not prematurely failed. Instead the ICCU has intermittently and temporarily drawn the batteries down causing the vehicle to lose propulsion and die. They refuse to replace the ICCU because an error code they were looking for was not in the memory. They have performed three software updates on three separate dealer visits, but the issue has not been resolved. During the last visit they kept my vehicle for six weeks while I appealed through Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the Service manager appealed through his Dealer rep. But the factory engineers held firm and would not approve the ICCU warranty replacement, and instead wanted me to pay for 12V battery replacement. We don't know if there were any warning lights since my wife was busy navigating the danger.

On 1/8/26, while driving in morning rush hour traffic on a busy expressway, a loud bang was heard under the car and the car suddenly lost power/propulsion. A warning light for low power displayed on the dash at the same time. Fortunately, I was able to drift to the right shoulder as much of the traffic was exiting the expressway just behind me. Otherwise, this could have caused a collision. Since the car lost all power, I wasn’t even able to engage the hazards while awaiting assistance. Car was towed to dealer who confirmed an ICCU failure, which appears to be a well known issue with this vehicle. The fact that there was NO warning and the car’s sudden loss of power on a busy highway, AND I was never contacted by the dealer/manufacturer about any recall for this problem has me very concerned. I also understand this could happen again despite the repair (which took 4 weeks due to part on back order).

The vehicle was returned to me after a manufacturer-authorized high-voltage battery replacement that was completed on December 10, 2025. Immediately after pickup, the vehicle began exhibiting safety-related issues. I experienced abnormal and hard steering operation, repeated low coolant warnings, and battery management system (BMS) and electrical warning messages. These warning messages appeared immediately after the repair and before the vehicle was driven by me. I returned the vehicle to the dealership multiple times for the same issues. During the final visit, the dealership retained the vehicle for approximately 12 days. After this inspection period, I was informed that the vehicle had underbody damage affecting the coolant system and high-voltage battery and that the damage was likely caused by road debris. The issues began immediately after the battery replacement and involved safety-related systems including steering, coolant, and the high-voltage battery. The vehicle was returned with unresolved warning messages related to these systems. I am concerned that the vehicle was released after a major battery repair in an unsafe condition and that the affected systems may not have been properly inspected or repaired prior to release.

I heard a pop sound in the back seat while pulling into a parking spot and got a "stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply" and it going into limp mode. I was able to get it home and then towed to the local dealership. I was told it was a issue with the ICCU and that it, along with my 12V battery and ICCU fuse, needed to be replaced. They could not tell me why the ICCU failed. This was on 1/3/26 and as of today 2/06/26 the dealership is still waiting for a replacement ICCU.

Electrical system failure. A electrical warning message appeared and the car immediately shutoff and slowed down. I was forced to stop on the side of the highway with limited shoulder. The car is currently at a hyundai service center and confirmed to be an ICCU issue. Even after adressing recalls, this issue persists.

My car failed to charge on my level 2 home charger and would only charge on a level 3 fast charger. Because of this, I was unable to charge my car at home. I was on a trip about 1 hour from my home in an area of Massachusetts that developed an electrical blackout. I almost ran out of power on a dark road with no streetlights. I was lucky to find a level 3 charger just on the outside of the blackout area when my car had less than 5% power. I brought the car to the Hyundai service center 2 weeks ago. I called daily for updates and was told they were "diagnosing" the problem. I called again, yesterday and was told it needed an ICCU. It had been ordered that afternoon (2/5/26) and they hoped it would arrived within the week. They were unable to provide a loaner car (even though I've been without a car for two weeks).

Initial alert “stop vehicle, and check power supply“. We were on I5 when limp mode triggered. This was dangerous as the speed of traffic was 75. Car was towed and dealer determined it was the ICCU. Car has been in the shop for almost 3 weeks. Still no estimate on the replacement part.
