While making the short drive to work on surface streets I was given a warning in an amber circle to check the electrical system. Moments later I was presented with a warning in a red circle reading "Stop vehicle and check power supply"; accompanying this warning was a drastic loss in power. Had I been on the highway I would not have been able to maintain speed with the likelihood of being stranded in an unsafe location. The dealership reported that the ICCU (internal charge control unit) had failed. This is the second such failure on this car. It has been over 4 weeks since the dealership received the car, and Hyundai has not been able to supply repair parts.

The car displayed electrical system warning messages while driving, and it would no longer drive above about 25 mph. The issue was diagnosed as an ICCU failure by the dealership and has been awaiting a backordered ICCU for about 5 weeks.

I have had multiple issues believed to be related to the ICCU. The first issue was that my 12V battery deteriorated and died prematurely. I had to purchase a jump start charger and ultimately replace the OEM 12V battery in 2024 (within the first 2 years of owning my new vehicle) because it was failing to reliably start and I was at risk of being stranded every time I parked and turned off my vehicle. The 2nd issue occurred in Dec 2025 - the vehicle stopped charging with L1/L2 chargers. The dealer did not have availability to diagnose for 3+ weeks (until Jan'26), during which my only option was to use L3 Fast DC chargers (severely limiting my options for when/where I charge and costing a premium price). Once the dealer inspected my vehicle, they confirmed it was the ICCU and informed me there is a nationwide shortage and that it would be 6-8 weeks before a replacement was available. I'm currently at week 4 (mid-Feb) with no ETA currently available, so I'm forced to drive a replacement vehicle (and make alternative arrangements for personal travel that would violate replacement vehicle terms & conditions).

Car experienced ICCU failure. It tripped my 50A breaker at the fuse panel and damaged my EVSE. Car has been sitting in the shop for 3 weeks with NO eta insight (Dropped car off on Jan 20th, 2026). The service center tells me there are 20 Ioniq5s ahead of me still waiting on ICCU replacement parts. NHTSA and other articles have estimated 2-10% with ICCU failures but the problem appears to be much higher than this! I am very disappointed and hope NHTSA.gov will help us to push Hyundai to find a root cause instead of sweeping it under the table claiming less than "1%" are affected.

The vehicle experienced a sudden failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). While driving, a loud "pop" was heard, followed immediately by a "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning on the dashboard. The vehicle then entered "Limp Mode" with significantly reduced propulsion. The 12V battery became depleted, leading to a complete loss of motive power and loss of electronic safety systems, creating a hazardous situation in traffic.

When putting my car into gear a loud pop noise was heard. The car could not be driven at the point and the instrument cluster mentioned an electrical system failure. The car was towed to the dealer where they confirmed the ICCU unit needed to be replaced. It has been at the dealership since January 8th with little to no communication.

The ICCU failed. This was verified both by my local Hyundai dealership, Conicelli, and Hyundai Corporate. My safety was put at risk because my car rapidly lost power, informing me to pull over now while I was in the middle of driving. This happened with no other warning. The component has been inspected by the manufacturer, and I had even received a recall already that was supposed to prevent this issue from happening. There were no prior warning signs other than the alert to pull over now, which accompanied a rapid loss of power.

The ICCU component popped and blew seconds before I entered the on ramp for an interstate. My car immediately entered "turtle mode" and capped my speed at 10 mph. I crossed 4 lanes to get out of the turn ramp and get to a parking lot. The car alerted and stopped driving as I pulled into the lot. The car provided no warning before and has the 3 prior software recall fixes. It was unsafe for the car to suddenly stop working. 30 seconds more and I wouldn't have been able to pilot the car to a safe spot. Dealer has car and confirmed that the ICCU is blown and destroyed the 12v battery, which is less than a year old. They were willing to provide it to you. It is still at the dealership, as Hyundai national stopped shipping replacement ICCUs apparently in January.

On December 23, 2025 while driving at 50 mph the car displayed an electrical warning and would not let me drive more than 40 mph. When I drove it to the dealer on December 27 (because the dealer said I had to wait until after Christmas ) it would not go over 20 mph. The vehicle has been at the dealer awaiting an ICCU part since December 27, 2025. Over 50 days!

On January 28th 2026, I got red warning signs on dashboard said: "Stop vehicle and check power supply" and "12V battery voltage low. Stop safely". I was still in the parking lot, so the issue did not pose any safety issue. The vehicle towed to Hyundai dealership. They confirmed and pre-approved "Replace ICCU +fuse". The part is on 1 month back order. While the dealership initially did not commit to giving me alternate transportation, I insisted and after 6 days, I was able to get a much lower class and smaller replacement vehicle (Hyundai Venue with entry level trim). My vehicle is a lease. Since I'm paying for enjoying the vehicle amenities for a limited time, and my vehicle will not be available for at least a month, I requested Hyundai to reimburse me (or let me skip) lease payments until my vehicle is usable again. So far, the company has denied my request.

My car is one of many Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles that has experienced an ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure. This results in a car that is not drivable, and generally needs to be pulled over within a few miles, as it no longer can be driven above about 35 mph. It also will no longer charge on AC charging (level 1/2), since the ICCU is needing to convert AC -> DC to charge the main battery. This is a very well-known problem that Hyundai is addressing in only a piecemeal fashion. Here is a very long thread about this issue: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While pulling into traffic the car lost power and went into limp mode risking a collision. Car was immediately backed into driveway and completely died shortly after the initial power loss and had to be towed to dealer. Dealer diagnosed an ICCU failure. Warning lights activated at the moment the car lost power. Had this occurred on a highway or in heavier traffic the power loss and speed with which the car went from fully operational to dead could have had catastrophic consequences.

“Check EV System” error appeared in a red circle, with a red 12v battery icon. Then a turtle icon appeared and the car would not exceed about 30 mph. I was able to drive a mile and park in a lot. This happened after Level 2 charging to 100% and then driving one mile in 25° weather. The car was towed to the dealer.

Vehicle experienced a dashboard alert, "Check electric vehicle system." The car produced an OBD code: P1AD3(00). Upon taking it to the dealer, they determined that the EV required a new high-voltage battery.
