- #11727218March 26, 2026AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SEATS
The wiring for the air bag system under the driver's seat is exposed and unprotected which has led to disconnection and or damage to the wiring harness which then results in a disabled air bag system. This is a manufacturer design flaw and a serious safety issue. Other owners who have experienced damage to their wiring harness here have had disabled air bag systems for prolonged periods and costly repairs that Hyundai had refused to cover under warranty despite the fact that it is an obvious design flaw and a serious safety issue. See attached photos for evidence of how exposed this wiring harness is and suscebtible to damage as well as an example of damage which can occur which other owners have reported. Damage to this unit due to poor design results in compromised driver and passenger safety and extremely costly repairs ($10,000) which it appears Hyundai is refusing to cover under warranty. We request that this be recalled in order replace the design so this wiring harness is protected properly.

On January 19, 2026, the vehicle lost power while driving and required a tow to the local dealership. After inspection, the dealership determined that the ICCU was at fault and needed to be replaced. The ICCU part was backordered. The vehicle was inoperable for 6 weeks as we waited for the part to be available and installed.

ICCU failure occurred while vehicle was operating at 30 MPH, after being charged the night prior and unplugged in the morning at 100% capacity. A sudden pop was heard, and the vehicle indicated that an electrical fault would require the vehicle to be shut down as soon as safely possible. The vehicle went into limp mode and would not exceed 25 MPH.

Car lost charge quickly, went into limp mode while I was driving on the highway. I had to pull of the road several times and try to get it to a charging station. It barely made it after the lose of power. Charged it to 80% and it would only go up to a range of 100 miles. Took it to the dealership and they confirmed it needed a whole new main battery. ICCU had already been replaced. Had to wait over 5 months for replacement parts.

My 2023 Ioniq 5 had the ICCU replacedin 2025 and then it failed again in late January 2026. The car has been at the dealership since then awaiting a new part.

Car gave a "electrical error" message and would no longer charge at any charger. It slowly lost power and eventually stopped driving fully on the highway. The dealer says the ICCU is responsible. I inquired if this recall was not fixed already, they said it was but can still happen and the ICCU is not resolved truly, the software is just a temporary fix according to them. The vehicle will need a new ICCU.

Driving and lost power in vehicle it wasn't able to accelerate and resulted in getting stranded. Power would then be restored and then lost randomly. Dealer said it was the ICCU that was faulty.

For the HYUNDAI Ioniq 5 XRT, the ICCU, fuse and perhaps hybrid battery malfunctioned. We were in a disabled car on a 4 lane highway with traffic: On February 10, 2026, as we drove out of our home we heard a loud pop. As we got out onto a large 4 lane road near our house, the notice “Check Electrical System” came on and the car’s power was drastically reduced. We made a U turn and drove (20 mph) back to our driveway. We were fortunate that this was mid-day and the road was relatively clear. Normally this is an extremely busy road with traffic moving at 40-50 mph and we would have had great difficulty even pulling out to the side -- as there is only marginal side space on this road. Hyundai has confirmed to us that the ICCU and a related fuse failed. They also think the hybrid battery is also involved and they are testing to confirm that. We had no warning at all -- except for the electrical warning that came on as the car's power was reduced. The car had charged normally and had had no warning signals/signs at all.

March 19, 2026, the car left my 18 y.o. daughter stranded at 10:00pm in a store parking lot. The car was fine when she went into the store. When she went back to the car, it was completely dead. No power at all. I had to pick her up to bring her home and left the car overnight. Called AAA the next morning. I have already previously reported about this car a few months back when it was in the shop for 3 months. Then, the ICCU and wiring harness were replaced a couple times.

The ICCU unit malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. It occurred while I was driving home and I was lucky enough to make it to my driveway. If it had been on the freeway I would have been stuck.

I was driving in a parking lot and heard a “pop” sound like a balloon breaking. The Ionic 5 lurched and stopped. A red circle appeared on the dash and said “check electrical system.” I slowly maneuvered the car into a parking spot because there was very little power and turned off the car. I called the Hyundai dealer and they told me to have the car towed to the dealer in Palm Springs, CA. When the tow truck unloaded the Ionic 5 at the dealer, I attempted to move the car into a parking spot so it was out of the traffic lane. I started the car again it again lurched and a yellow circle came up with a turtle icon. Then another red circle appeared “check 12V battery”. The car would not move after that. I went into the Hyundai service department and talked to the service representative. He said he would take the vehicle in for service and I signed the paperwork.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 displayed a "Check Vehicle Electrical System" warning on the dashboard. The Integrated Charging Control Unit(ICCU) failed, and it rendered the car inoperable. I could not drive it and was left stranded, waiting for a tow truck in below-freezing temperatures as the car completely died. Hyundai has previously recalled the vehicle for this, and my car had been serviced in the recall campaign, so the issue is clear: the recall did not fix this issue. The car has been sitting at the service center for two weeks, waiting in the repair queue behind other Ioniq 5 cars with the same ICCU failure.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety issue with my vehicle, a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which I purchased new and which currently has only 4,795 miles. The vehicle remains fully covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Yesterday, March 19th 2026, while driving on a heavily congested street, the vehicle suddenly displayed a warning message stating: “Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply.” Immediately after, the car began to significantly lose power and slow down in active traffic. This created a dangerous situation, as I was forced to pull over abruptly in a crowded roadway, putting my safety and the safety of others at risk. Due to the severity of the issue, I contacted Hyundai roadside assistance, and the vehicle was towed to Safford Hyundai for inspection and repair. I was informed by the dealership that repairs could take up to four months, and I was not provided with a loaner vehicle or alternative transportation. As a result: I am currently without a vehicle for daily transportation, including commuting to work I have experienced significant stress and anxiety due to the sudden and dangerous nature of the incident I am left without a reasonable remedy despite the vehicle being new and under full warranty This situation raises serious concerns regarding vehicle safety, reliability, and Hyundai’s failure to provide adequate support or transportation during an extended repair period. Given that this is a new vehicle with a critical failure that compromises safety, I am requesting: Immediate assistance with a loaner or rental vehicle at no cost A clear timeline and communication regarding repairs Consideration of further remedies if the vehicle cannot be repaired within a reasonable timeframe, in accordance with applicable consumer protection laws I believe this issue represents a significant defect that substantially impairs the use, value, and safety of the vehicle.

Received multiple "Check Vehicle Electric Systems" on a drive which went away and then got into the car, turned it on, shifted into drive, and heard a pop from bellow before moving at all and the car went into Turtle Mode and blasted warnings. The car completely died with zero power leaving it stranded in sub freezing temperatures and unable to lock the car or open the lift gate to access the trunk area. Eventually it was towed to the dealership and was diagnosed to have a faulty ICCU which took 5 weeks to replace.
