This has happened 3 different times starting on 5/28/23. While at a stop light the engine shut off function goes into effect. The engine then shuts off and won't restart until you put it back in park and restart the vehicle. This is dangerous and could cause accidents when in stop and go traffic.

The auto engine idle is failing to properly restart the vehicle. After coming to a complete stop the vehicle will not restart on its own. I have to put the vehicle in park, wait a few minutes and then push the start button to restart the vehicle. The vehicle will be available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others has been put at risk numerous times. The vehicle has failed to restart mid-intersection in heavy traffic., on the highway during stop and go traffic, and at stop lights. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance company. No prior warning signs, messages or lamps have appeared before the problem.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle was shimmying and rattling abnormally. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle was slow to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be test driven. The contact was informed that the rotors were warped. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 22. I currently have a 2020 Honda Passport. When I am driving the radio system begins making loud cracking and popping sounds (almost as small things are hitting the windshield). The sounds can still be heard if I turn the entertainment system off. It doesn't matter if I turn the volume low if it always the same frequency. It will continue on an off while driving for a few minutes and then it frequently make a very loud static sound abruptly before saying the network is no longer working. The sound is so sound and jarring it causes me to jump while driving because I never know when this is going to happen. I found and article online that stated: Common symptoms that Honda drivers have experienced in affected vehicles include popping or crackling sounds from the speakers, loss of sound from the audio system, network loss messages, and errors in the display screen. Also there was a Honda Bulletin in March 2019 - 11536Version 1 that states this exact issue was a problem in an earlier model- After realizing this because it has stated happening more frequently initial time it happened was probably prior to this one however we thought it was bugs hitting the windshield while we were driving at night time in a moral rural area.

The vehicle was unable to restart after the auto idle stop engaged at a stoplight, shutting the engine off. Upon release of the brake, the engine did not restart and the car was left stranded for several hours in the middle of a large intersection putting the driver at risk. The car was unable to be restarted and stranded for over two hours until police were able to clear a safe path and have the car towed to the nearest service center. There were no warning indicators or service lights prior to this occurrence. The authorized Honda service center found that the battery was drained and the auto idle stop had engaged while the car battery was low, leaving the car stranded and unable to be restarted.

The contact owns a 2021 Honda Passport. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the Forward Collision Avoidance system erroneously activated. The contact stated the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer and the distance of the Forward Collision Avoidance system was extended. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact stated the vehicle had been taken to the local dealer three times, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Passenger side floor was accumulating water from unknown source. My vehicle was brought to the dealership for service and they incorrectly diagnosed the issue stating that it was coming from the windshield. I picked up my vehicle and instantly noticed the problem was not corrected. It was coming from underneath the vehicle and the entire carpet needed to replaced along with an extensive repair.

Since I purchased this car in 2020, I have regularly experienced my car stalling out because of the auto idle function. The car shuts off when I brake and then does not turn back on, leaving me stranded in traffic until I can manually shut off my car and turn it back on. This is a major safety hazard that Honda has yet to properly address. Honda had a recall to "fix" this, which was just a software update. This was conducted 5/12/2023 on my car. Unfortunately, today (5/20/2023) my car stalled out again at a traffic light due to the auto idle function. Honda needs to address this issue, and if they cannot, then they need to provide those with defective models a path to upgrade their car.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The contact stated that on one occasion, the failure caused the vehicle to come to a complete and abrupt stop. The brake warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact also stated that the steering wheel was shaking with an unknown chime heard. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the braking system needed to be recalibrated. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it remained awaiting diagnostic and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I was driving at 60mph and the entire dash went blank for about 30seconds. There was no speedometer, warnings, no display at all. After about 30 seconds the tach showed back up followed by the gear indicator and speedometer with the drivers information center showing up last. This happened on Sunday 5/7/23 this has happened once before but it was brief and I wasn’t sure it had actually happened. This time I saw it go blank and watched the whole process of it coming back on.

Radio system is making cracking noise and audio cuts in and out which requires it to be turned off in order to get it to stop. The noise can be startling and the need to unplug audio and turn unit on and off creates a safety issue. From my research this appears to be a common problem with these vehicles.

POWER TRAIN
Since purchasing the vehicle I had issues with jerking of the transmission in 4th or 5th gear around 30-35mph. It most commonly occurred on hills or with slower acceleration like traffic. It's a commonly reported issue with all these models using the ZF 9 speed transmission. I was traveling up a hill one day and an engine light came on and car refused to start. The transmission had seized and teeth shattered inside. I was 5,000 miles out of warranty, so had to pay the $7,700 out of pocket to fix. I was working at Honda, so I know the issues with the transmission have been reported (part of the reason the latest full model change is going to the 10 speed Honda transmission).

My infotainment system cracks and blanks out often. It makes a very loud noise and seems to be even lounder than the radio is set at the time. It is very distracting. This is a new vehicle to me and when it happens, especially the first time, it scared me tremendously. It has also completely blanked the screen out from time to time as well. After researching online, this seems to be a common problem but no recall has been issued. I contacted my nearest dealer (Planet Honda, Golden CO) and they said that I could pay to have it checked out, but thats all they could do. the date listed is the first time it happened, a few days after purchased. It happens daily.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I don't know which system failed or malfunctioned. It is available for inspection. While parking at the community parking lot the car accelerated. I wan't able to stop it. It jumped a bumper stop than a curb and drove up a berm and crashed into a tree. (The incident is on film at the clubhouse). I was the only one injured. My knee broke the underside of dashboard (see phpto). I did have other bruises. The vehicle is still at the collision repair shop so it hasn't been seen by the dealer. However I did report the matter to American Honda who assigned a case #13707324 on 3/17/2023. As of this writing I am told they haven't assigned same to a representative. To the best of my knowledge the vehicle has not been inspected. There were no warnings given.
