I purchased a 2021 Passport this week with 22k miles. Test drive was great, but the next day I noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine at low rpm on a warm engine. I took back to the dealer twice and they told me it was normal… I took it to another Honda and they diagnosed crank bearing knock. I just purchased this car with low miles and it has engine problems which is very scary. Maintenance records are great. I’ve been reading forums and this problem is very common with these engines. A lot of people have been told it was normal, but it is not. It’s very scary and dangerous to find out I bought a defective engine. I have a video of the knocking sound.

Description: I have a concern that I will follow-up with a letter via USPS. Imagine driving your 2019 Honda Passport on an Interstate, Speed Limit is set at 70; your speed is 75; you're in the middle of the three lanes of travel; and your vehicle suddenly decelerates and every warning the vehicle is equipped with start giving alerts in rapid succession. This is what happened to me on [XXX] at approximately [XXX]. What is concerning is that this exact same thing happened April 2023 and I was told it was the Idle Control Sensor. The dealership that sold me the vehicle was gracious enough to let me bring it to them for repair, without charging the full cost of the part but, labor cost I incurred. When a consumer purchases a vehicle, the second most expensive purchase in one's lifetime, it is implied that outside of normal and routine maintenance, the car has been assessed and inspected for drivability. Being that this is the second occurrence, I am questioning if this vehicle was thoroughly inspected for this issue? I had my vehicle towed to the Greensboro Honda Dealership, 3633 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro NC 27407. Although my faith and loyalty to the Honda brand has diminished, the customer service provided by Ms. Karen was comforting and reassuring. She understood my concerns and was phenomenal in letting me know what to expect. Surprising for a weekend as, most employees are not wanting to work. The reason for this email is two fold, notification of the issue and hoping that Honda will take accountability financially and resolve whatever "root" issue(s) that could be cause. Thank you and if my life has any significance to you, I hope to hear from you regarding this serious concern. - #11643665February 19, 2025VISIBILITY/WIPER, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
What component malfunctioned: The driver's side visor has malfunctioned and is extremely difficult to raise and lower. It's motion has become very stiff and requires both of the driver's hands to raise or lower it, which means that the driver must remove their hands from the steering wheel to utilize the visor. It is available for inspection as it is still installed in the car. Safety Risk: The malfunctioning visor is a safety risk to both the driver, the car's other occupants and other drivers as it requires both of the driver's hands to raise or lower it which means the driver must temporarily take their hands from the steering wheel while driving to operate the visor. Removing ones hands from the steering wheel can cause the car to be temporarily undirected by the driver which can result in accidents. The malfunctioning visor also creates a visibility hazard. As the visor is too difficult to raise and lower, the driver can be blinded by the sun glare that the visor would normally block. such a visibility issue can lead to accidents, especially if there is oncoming traffic. Inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others:? The dealership (Ziegler Honda, Kalamazoo Michigan) was asked to look at the visor to determine why it wasn't working correctly. They informed me that this was a common issue with this model of Honda and that the only option to fix it is total replacement at a cost of $300. This would not be covered by insurance and there is currently no recall in place to address the defect. Warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The visor started to not function smoothing in Summer of 2024 and the problem has consistently progressed to the point that the visor is now extremely difficult to raise and lower and requires to hands to move. I can provide a video of the visor's operation showing how difficult it is to move.

Every time I am on a two lane road and am navigating a right hand curve at any speed and a white car or truck is in oncoming traffic, in their lane, the vehicle alerts me to brake. The system beeps and flashes BRAKE! on the instrument panel. This happens each time as if the cameras are not calibrated correctly. It's incredibly annoying and happens every time even with the system turned down as low as Honda will allow. This could be very distracting to many drivers. I have chosen to just ignore the system which is not a good situation.

I was exiting a highway onto another highway. It was a pretty sharp exit to the right. The vehicle lost engine power, and I couldn't travel greater than about 40 miles/hour. The vehicle would not respond to my pressing the accelerator. Upon getting off the exit onto the next highway, I immediately pulled over and shut the vehicle off. I waited a few minutes before restarting the vehicle. Once I restarted the vehicle, it was back to normal. There were no further issues for the rest of the drive (about 90 miles). This has happened 3-4 times since I purchased the vehicle.

Tread separation on one of the tires at approximately 34K miles of driving and premature tread wear. 2023 Honda Passport, bought new from Classic Honda in Orlando Florida. Dealer wouldn't report it to Continental Tires and quoted me to install 2 new tires from the same brand (Continental) and after charging me alignment (that didn't solve the problem on my first visit).

When driving on Highway the engine will lose drive power, hesitate and temporarily stall. This happened soon after we purchased and again multiple time and when in traffic nearly cause cars behind to crash into us. This is very scary. We have taken into Honda dealership multiple times and the first time they said it came back with code for transmission failure and scheduled a new transmission but later said they are disregarding code and no problem with vehicle. The problem is not collision avoidance since sometimes happens when no other vehicles around. This issue has happened three times. The first two times, I attempted to accelerate while driving on the highway and the engine momentarily lost power. I would say the events lasted 3 - 5 seconds. The third time, the engine lost power while I was driving on the highway and the vehicle never regained enough power to go over 26 miles an hour - with the accelerator depressed to its maximum limit. Fortunately, I was near my exit, so I exited the highway and drove the car 4 miles to my destination. This is the only time out of the 3 instances a flashing "Check Engine" light came on. I shut the car off, went to my appointment and then restarted the vehicle approximately 30 minutes later. No other issues were noted on the 3 hour return trip. This last event happened on [XXX]. I took the car into the service department at Ken Vance Honda, in Eau Claire, WI on January 29, 2025 and they were unable to find any stored codes in the computer related to the issue. The service advisor said he has heard of this issue several times. The estimate to fix the issue was roughly $850.00 with parts accounting for $501.74 I researched this issue online and found several references to it. The first is a post from a online group for Honda Odyssey owners. One post in that thread leads to another thread for Honda Ridgeline owners. The first website: [XXX] and the post on that site that has a link to the second and more damning site. On Nov 9, 2024 I was pulling into a parking spot in a public parking garage, after turning 2 tight corners to approach the parking spot. About half way into the parking spot, the car suddenly lurched and accelerated and I crashed into a 90 degree concrete corner wall! It happened SO fast, without any warning sounds or ABS brakes deploying. The entire front passenger corner of my car was badly damaged. Luckily I was not injured, nor were there any other vehicles or persons involved. It is just not possible that I could have personally pulled into a parking spot at such a high speed as to cause such extreme damage to the vehicle! I drove the vehicle to a body shop on 11/11/24, which was one recommended by my insurance company. The vehicle was inspected by the body shop, which was directly in contact with my insurance company. I did ask the shop to make sure the mechanic checked for any safety issues during repair, as I was concerned as to the cause of the accident. I have an impeccable driving record and I cannot explain how such an accident could happen! I had no issues with the car previously. Upon further inspection into the damage, on 1/3/25 it was finally evaluated as a total loss, as there was damage to the frame and other issues! I did receive a statement on 1/3/25 from the body shop that there was a "fault in the system, causing gas pedal lock, which might be cause of accident". I felt I had to report this possible issue that resulted in a total loss and obviously could have injured myself, others or other vehicles!

Ever since I purchased this vehicle in April of 2024, I've noticed that the forward collision mitigation system seems to see and respond to things which aren't in front of the vehicle. It seems like this system is watching the lane to the left of my vehicle, more than the lane which I am in, which causes the over-reactions, (but also means that the adaptive cruise control is less reliable about slowing when traffic ahead of me, in my lane, slows.) This has only rarely resulted in brake activation. Generally, it's just the warning which comes up on the screen. This happens most times I drive it, and I just live with it. I have had it into the local Honda dealer (Ken Garff Honda Downtown) to be checked out, and they say it's fine.

In February of 2024 my 2022 Honda Passport wouldn't let me reverse out of my sloped driveway. I realized the emergency brake must be frozen and sure enough as soon as it hit 33F I was able to release the brake and drive the vehicle. I figured just a little water got into the cable in the rear. In January of 2025 I found myself with the same problem with another frozen brake. I took it into the Honda dealership and after a week they found out there was a leak in the body seam that let water under the driver's seat and froze the emergency brake cables. According to the mechanic, this was either the result of a major collision or a defect. Since the vehicle hasn't been in a collision, this is a concerning defect that Honda has so far refused to cover, including the damage to the soaked carpet. Both times, I had driven for 3-8 hours in pouring rain on the highway. Unacceptable for a 2- year old vehicle to have this issue.

When backing out of a driveway onto a busy street, I put the car in reverse and back out into the lane of traffic. I then put the car into drive and try to pull forward into the lane of traffic with cars coming up behind me but the car does not respond to the gas pedal for many seconds. I have almost been rear ended because of this several times.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance system activated and briefly applied the Automatic Emergency Braking system before returning to normal functionality. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

The vehicle has made multiple abrupt emergency brake activations in non-emergyncy situations. Nearly causing a crash multiple times. It's my opinion this system is severely flawed and extremely dangerous - not only to me but anyone around me. SHAME on Honda for allowing this system to drive on our roads.

- #11637721January 22, 2025ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The Idle-Stop system engages as expected when the vehicle comes to a stop, but the engine fails to restart when I release the brake pedal. This leaves me stranded in traffic and vulnerable to collisions, especially in high-traffic areas like intersections. The car has completely stalled and remains frozen for at least 3 minutes. Instrument panel lights up and says to depress pedal fully and press the start button. Another message says something about being in neutral and then to put it in park. I'm doing what it says and I cannot get the car to start. I have a green light and I'm stuck in an intersection where opposing traffic has a green light as well. People are honking at me and nervous because of the unpredictibilty of my car. - Frequency: This occurs at least 1x/month for the past 65 months (lifetime of the vehicle) - Conditions: Occurs during normal driving conditions, typically in stop-and-go traffic. - Impact: This issue has resulted in significant delays and near-misses with other vehicles, posing a clear safety hazard. The vehicle has been evaluated by a Honda dealer regarding Idle-Stop system malfunction specifically on the following dates October 1st, 2020, February 2nd 2023, March 16th, 2023 May 11th 2023, November 7th 2024 and January 9th 2025. The vehicle was found to be in normal working order and multiple times I was told to disengage the auto idle stop (press the button) to prevent that from happening. There was a recall for idle-stop software update which failed to repair the issue. This has been a persistent problem and the above dates by no means reflects the only times that the engine fails to restart after auto-stopping.
